Micro Center

They seemed to have a fairly decent selection of electronics from what I could see on the day the I stopped in to have a look see. The sales help didn’t seem particularly outgoing but one guy I spoke to was nice enough. The check out area seemed a bit oddly set up, but I didn’t buy anything. I will think of them if I need something in a hurry, since they are in my neighborhood. They should think about giving the inside a bit of a sprucing up as it seemed sort of dark and outdated in design.

Awesome large electronics store with a wide variety of things you never knew you needed. You can find things from computer components to a Raspberry Pi. Large parking lot and easy to get to. Very nice to have a store like this in the neighborhood.

Complete, thorough, stocked with goods, in-​store helpful floor clerks, expertise and reasons to return. Prices are as good as eBay or Amazon. The knowledge bar is a great innovation that I use a lot, as well as the build it yourself geek spot in the rear. Their 3 year warranty is easy to claim when you need it.
A little bit of a walk from the R train, but the bus goes right to the door. Big parking lot as well.

Bait and switch and old school camera store tactics are alive and well in Sunset Park, the only thing different is a better smile to put behind all of that BS. A Samsung Tablet that had gone on sale on November 25^th was not available anywhere in the store (s) or online by the 27^th and oh, yeah we can sell you the beaten up floor model but you must include the extended warranty even if we can’t offer a box, stylus or charger. Don’t mind those cracked edges, only superficial. HA! What a bunch of amateurs. Avoid at all costs.

Was pretty bummed about this place. Knowing I would get ignored or ignorant and apathetic sales people at a big box store (always the case) I saw that Micro Center got great reviews & decided to try it despite not being able to get there by subway.
I went looking for a Roku. When I walked in, a guy immediately asked if I needed help — which is at least a huge improvement over these big box stores where you can wander around aimlessly for hours with no one ever approaching you.
I asked about the Roku and he brought me to the stick, telling me it was the latest. I warned him I was completely technically challenged and I needed something very easy. He assured me you just plug it in and go. He never once mentioned a Roku box — and I didn’t know if they were still in existence. So I bought the stick.
Five hours later, after 2 hours on customer service support, the Roku stick simply does not work — it either freezes, or it can’t find a signal, or it inexplicably shuts down & you have to reset it. It takes FOREVER to reset. My guess is that you have to have a modem that is within feet of the stick for this thing to work well.
I returned it the next day — along with the $ 100 antennae I bought, which I hadn’t opened yet. I was concerned that if that didn’t work too, I’d have to make the somewhat arduous bike ride back to the store.
I returned the devices and mentioned to the guy I was returning things to that perhaps I should get a smart TV and forget all of these devices. He looked at me blankly — like I was speaking another language. Perhaps he’s just ‘return guy’ and not ‘sell guy’ but he clearly had no interest in encouraging a customer who had just expressed interest in dropping $ 700 or more in the store.
Right then I figured I’d just leave but since another employee happened to walk by me, I flagged him down and explained the issues with Roku — and whether I should try the box, go for another streaming device, or just throw in the towel and drop the money for a TV.
To his credit, he showed me around, explained the box, and showed me a few of the smart TVs. However, when I asked if they delivered, he said no.
Call me crazy but if you’ve got a customer in front of you who is ‘thisclose’ to spending hundreds if not thousands in your store, I would have found a way to get that TV to her for an extra charge.
How many people in NYC have cars anyway?
I guess these guys must work for some kind of minimal hourly wage and not on commission because they had a weak target in their store who was itching to pull the trigger on a big purchase and no one even tried to talk her into it.

EDITED: they replaced my laptop with a brand new one of a different model after the review.
I’m absolutely furious. I brought in my laptop on Oct. 10^th on a Saturday for some major repairs (damage to the keyboard and frame). When I first purchased the laptop a year beforehand I bought a 2 year warranty I was told would cover all accidental damages and that, were the repair costs to exceed the price of the laptop, I would just get a replacement. So naturally I’m thinking this will be an easy process, I’ll be in and out with no additional costs. When i first bring it in I’m met with great customer service at the knowledge bar, I fill out all the paperwork, and I’m ASSURED that the warranty will cover everything and that the repairs will be made within the week. I’m also told the technician would be in constant contact with me.
The following Saturday I’ve still yet to receive any phone call or email on the status of my repair so I ask my mother to go in and inquire for me (I’m away in Connecticut at college) and she’s told that it turns out the warranty we bought covered NONE of the accidental damages (despite being assured it did TWICE) and that we would pretty much just have to buy a new laptop. I send an email through their site and get no response. I’m furious at this point and call them on the Wednesday or Thursday of that week pretty much just going off about how they wasted an entire week without bothering to tell me that they couldn’t even help me. The laptop was just sitting in their shop. I’m almost yelling at this innocent customer service guy and he goes to talk to his manager and returns to tell me that they understand it’s their mistake and they’ll replace the keyboard free of charge but can’t do anything about the dents. At this point I don’t care and I’ll take what I can get. So he says the parts should be ordered by the following Tuesday and they’ll be in constant contact.
I wait until the following Wednesday to call and am hung up on. I call again the next day and I get the same guy who tells me it turns out my part is on backorder so it’s not even in stock and hasn’t been ordered. Again, thanks for telling me sooner! At this point I’ve gone weeks without my laptop as a student in college and I’m struggling and falling behind in my classes. He tells me that if its not available by the following Tuesday, he’ll ask his manager if they can look into other providers. What can I say? I just agree bc at this point I can’t do anything more. That leads me up to today where I’ve reached my breaking point.
I have essays to write and assignments to turn in, mind you my «broken» computers touch screen worked perfectly fine and I was actually able to use it for a good 2 weeks WITH its damages so I would have been better off not dropping it off in the first place. At this point I’m just so fed up and disgusted with the awful customer service this place has. If I had never called I’m pretty sure my broken computer would still be sitting in a back room gathering dust. After all this time I expect for ALL my damages to be repaired no questions asked. Definitely never going back here for anything.

Let me start of by saying, that I do like this store, a lot. When i’m in need of obscure parts that only tech professionals need, I can always count on them to have it here, instead of me waiting for it online and the website is insanely good at telling you what’s in stock, where it is and in my experience it’s never wrong.
Their biggest downfall however, is how incompetent their staff is. I went in to look for a 10 port usb charger yesterday, the guy walked around in a circle, looked at one box, and told me it out of stock then proceeded to talk about video games with another rep. i walked down the aisle, and it was out there in plain sight. Another time, I returned a faulty 400 $ video card and exchanged it for a more expensive one, it took me over an hour because i couldn’t find staff to unlock the GPU cabinet. I ain’t even mad though, it’s just funny how bad service can be.
would i go there again? probably… they always have what i need when i need it now, just factor in some time to find it yourself if it’s an unusual item.

Went to get a laptop diagnosed and repaired. Granted I have some knowledge on laptops/​computers. I went on sept 1^st afternoon, I showed them my laptop and explained the core problems to the best of my knowledge and description I just wanted a professional to take a look or a expert opinion. I was told it will take 5 days to run a diagnoses (I was super reluctant to do this 5 days is a long time tbh). I was told they we’re very busy and backed up so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and turned in my laptop for a check up. 5 days later I left a email towards the tech just to get a update nothing.
So 7 days passed no phone call no response on the matter, day 9 comes I finally get a phone call telling me the battery has died, one of the problem was the power brick I was using no problem. I told the tech to replace it and cont with the check up. I asked questions about the other problems I described in my initial visit there it was explained I was told he has to run more tests I also stated I will call that day, was told to call back 2 days later when it will be ready for the results. (9 days to run a diagnostic after I tell you what might be the potential issue? Suspect)
11 days after check in I call the tech to find out what’s going on I was told he’s not supposed to be in today he was off but I was told to call yeah you didn’t respond to my email after 5 days also your not in the day you tell me to call. I asked when will he be in another 2 days smh.
Day 13 I had to call myself to reach him, I was told was about my situation which I pretty much explained since day one no problem now find out the price to replace the part. I was told this will take another day or 2 to find out lmao at this point it better be dirt cheap. I also asked how long will the repair take I was told another 5 – 7 days at this point yea I was leaning towards no but I’ll wait to find out a price/​quote. Don’t get me wrong a expert opinion is always nice. Now I asked about another problem that was explained since check in I was told nothing was wrong and the check up passed I said was it really checked? I told him it has to be one or the other if it still giving me problems after reformatting his answer changed in a blink of an eye lmao at this moment this price to replace the part better be lil to nothing. Now I’m questioning your credibility on the matter. I pretty much self diagnosed my own issue. (can I get a discount? lmfao)
Day 16 yeah it didn’t take 2 days to call me back you said one thing I get something else, it took another 3 days. The tech customer service skills on updating a client is unforgivable I had to call you and send a email for a update. So he calls me and tells me he can’t get a quote on the part and it will have to be shipped to an offsite. So you are asking me permission to send my laptop to get repaired via offsite w/​o letting me know the quote? So my next question was pretty much their last chance on getting my business. I asked him how long will it take I was told another 5 – 7 days. I immediately said never mind I will pick up my laptop today and will pay for the replacement power brick we discussed. I told him this situation took way too long +16 days w/​o a quote. It was pretty much going to lead into 3 – 4 weeks. His response times was unacceptable and I had to question his credibility.

They have the biggest inventory and the best prices for electronics, but personell adds a whole layer of drudgery to the shopping experience. Talk about sleep walking. All that changes when you are ready to buy something big… Overall, the only place I’d shop for computer stuff but only because of the pricing and HUGE inventory in stock!

Wow… What terrible customer service. I called in ahead of time to make sure they had the MDP to HDMI cable I was looking for and was assured they have it in stock. I checked the website to verify. Seems like it should be a simple purchase.
The store is super unorganized and the staff seem totally uninterested in providing any kind of help. There are isles upon isles of cables and adapters to sort through but I did manage to find an isle that should have had what I was looking for. After about 10 minutes of searching, I found a sales person to help me, but after inquiring, he just poked around the racks that I had already looked through then directed me to the Apple section of the store.
The sales person at the Apple section asked if I needed help and I told him what I was looking for. He proceeded to poke around at the shelves pretty unenthusiastically. His body language said that he did not know what I wanted and did not really want to find out more about it. «Well whatever we have here is probably it». When I told him I verified that the item was in stock via phone call and via website, he shrugged his shoulders and said «I dunno» and then walked off. I thought he would go check stock on the inventory system or ask a co-​worker, but he just walked off with no intention of returning to help me.
The store wasn’t busy at all and there was plenty of staff standing around chatting and looking at their phones. Finally after over 30 minutes, I find the cable I was looking for hidden behind other similarly marked items. More expensive price than listed but after the time I spent getting there and looking around I just purchased it.
Thanks for not giving a crap about your customers Micro Center! I’ll be sure to tell everyone I know NOT to spend money at your establishment!

I needed a laptop badly and my aunt told me about this place, thinking it was an independent store, not part of a chain. I didn’t do my research before hand but I saw a Dell laptop Wednesday afternoon that seemed to be a good fit for me. I discussed it with a salesperson named Chris P, who gave me a quote for that model which would come with internal CD/​DVD drive, windows 8.1 and Microsoft Office, home/​Student version. I went the next day after discussing some stuff with my brother but was still confused about how the wireless connection would work where I live since the current setup is a desktop with DSL which would still be in use.
I went back yesterday and bought the model that I was looking at with the Windows, Chris P wasn’t there so another salesperson helped out. Office and the anti-​virus program recommended. That was about 2 Pm. I was then told they could install the software. The only one that would cost me would be Office which was $ 39.99 plus tax. After spending about $ 800, that seemed like chump change. I was told it would be two hours.
It was more around 4 hours. That’s fine though, since it’s a short walk from my aunt’s house.
I got there and they forgot to install the program to make the desktop look similar to Microsoft Windows 7, which I think is called classic shell. That however did not take long to remedy as they walked me through it right there.

Confusing layout, despite having humongous signs. No staff to be reached. I felt boneheaded when I was standing behind a couple by the Knowledge bar. For some strange reason, I assumed that the knowledge bar was the checkout counter as well. This went on for a good five minutes of my life, which I may never retrieve. Its a miss on my list.

I’ll give this place 2 stars only because Devon was awesome and attentive and helped me pick a laptop from their inventory that matched the specs I was looking for. It was refurbished, something I’ve never done before, but it was a Dell XPS for $ 400 so it seemed like a sweet deal. Things went smoothly during setup, however, when I went to log into Windows the next day it wouldn’t let me. It said my username/​password was incorrect.
I never forget passwords.
I live-​chatted with one of «the best minds in the computer industry» according to their site and my troubleshooting went as such:
«Did you leave caps lock/​num lock on?»
«No, how would I tell if num lock is on?»
«Well the key would be lit up.»
«Well it’s a backlit keyboard, but no, nothing is obviously lit other than that.»
«Oh, you’re gonna have to go into the store for that. Sorry about that.»
Went into the store to their (un)Help (ful) Desk where a woman told me I would need to pay $ 30 for a password reset. On a computer I just bought from their store. Two days ago. With a 2-​year warranty.
Luckily my wonderful tech buddy offered to meet me this same night to solve the problem himself. I believe there is a glitch in the system because I’ve been playing around with it and it doesn’t correctly register password changes. If I find I cant deal with it, or another issue pops up within the 15-​day return period, Micro Center will be losing $ 400 over a $ 30 reset.
Give me a reason to.

This store is ginormous! Large spacious layout with aisle after aisle of gadgets. This is a geeksters strip club! Come here and you will «make it rain» with your money. There are so many things to pick up even when it’s not what you were looking for. There are sales people walking around that are willing to assist and the Palestinian cashier was very courteous. The parking lot could accommodate Costco shoppers, more than enough space. If your reading this you already know all the tech parts that await you at Microcenter. Enjoy!

This location is 850 third avenue and over near the highway. I have been here about twice so far, it is a computer geek’s favorite place. I got the Azpen Tablet A727 as part of a promotion. It was a nice model and once I got to the location found the product I was looking for right away. There was a sensor on the whole stack of the tablets and someone was there to ask you if you wanted a warranty. I got the two year for $ 1.99 additional charge. I like the tablet but need to add memory to it. I still have over a year on the warranty and it still works. Will come back here soon.

This is going to be as in depth as i can make it: My dad bought a brand new computer from this place last summer. After going through a bit of a situation to get his old info (from his old computer) put on this new one, everything was great. But then, apparently, the computer started messing up (shutting down randomly) so my dad decided to take it back to the store because it was still under warranty, since you know, it’s been less than a year…
The computer went back to the store and the tech people there (who aren’t very personable to begin with) didn’t really have a reason as to why it wasn’t working. They just said that they would replace the HD with a new one. Now this who situation was to be free of charge, because it was under warranty. Fair enough. However, it took about 2 weeks to get this HD replaced, which apparently constituted a bunch of phone calls back and forth that really had no information as to what the progress was and why it was taking so long. In fact, the 2 weeks is at least one week longer than this whole thing should have taken, and a lot longer than they SAID it would. While the computer was a good price, how good of a price could it be if my dad’s HD straight up «failed» less than a year after using it regularly?
These are just things to consider. The store is really big and they have a great selection and great prices but I’m still a bit iffy on the quality.

MICRO… is that a oxymoron??? Some bright publicity stunt from the owner (s) of this gargantuan electronic playground! I’m sure I can polish off at least 3 hours in this store without blinking an eye. I walked in and where do I start???
The store is super neat, super organized, and super detailed. Anything and almost everything you would need, want, or not aware that you even want are all here… including 3D printers!
I came in here to simply purchase a Blu-​Ray burner for my computer and sure as shi& I didn’t walk out with only that burner. I can’t wait to come back here to shop.

Pretty empty at this time so my advice is to come around 6:30pm if you’re coming on a Friday.
The atmosphere inside is pretty laid back. Loads of available CSRs on the floor to assist. Cashing is not too slow even though there’s only two open registers.
Too many computer/​gadgets, I’m tired, it’s been a long day. You guys come on down when you’re ready.
P.S at this time the carpark is pretty lonely so ladies don’t come alone! I was just accosted by a dude demanding I buy him a tablet and he appeared very belligerent. Thankfully, the car was close and the ever vigilant Freedom already had alarm in her hand.

For good electronic stores this is the place to go in Brooklyn… They provide many products electronic products… they don’t have as many option and defiantly not as big as best buy but theres a lot of people working there so your every concern or what your looking for is dealed with quickly… I think their products are cheaper then best buy not so sure about the quality… depending on what you buy is what you get this is what I always say…

I love this place!
It brought me back to the days of CompUSA, only now we have tablets and flying cars (almost).
Please, Peter D. hold an elite event here, and I will EAT printer toner… I don’t care…
Seriously…this place is massive and has everything you can need.
What I like most about it is, that it’s probably a place you won’t just check out and order from Amazon. This place let’s you find things that you wouldn’t even know what to Google for, it’s that broad in its breadth!
The prices are really decent too… so just check it out if you’re into that kind of thing, or need something… anything…computer related.
