Mazzola is so simple and so perfect. I’ve lucked out by living very close and the neighborhood just wouldn’t be the same without it! I stop by about twice a day, usually for the hazelnut iced coffee which is out of this world and sometimes I get a loaf of olive bread. Or a croissant if I see they just came out of the oven, which happens quite a bit there! I used to never have cash but now I have a special Mazzola stash because they don’t take cards :) Anyway, this place rocks!

By far my favorite bakery and coffee spot in Brooklyn. Home feel that will capture your attention with its freshly baked snacks and breads including its infamous lard bread. Just make sure to bring cash since it is cash only.

No doubt this is my place since I was younger. It’s my hometown. But the only problem is the new young workers not from here that want to have attitudes and act like everything is a big deal. I’m waiting for the girl to finish with the customer and then another one comes out, doesn’t look at me or greet me and is like ‘whenever you’re ready’ UMMMM I’ve been ready maam. I keep calm and order and she’s just short with me and fake smiling to the point where she’s asking for a smack. Seriously I am the easiest customer and this is my bakery not yours bitch. So Luckyyyy I swear lol. The stars are only for the amazing food. AMAZINGFOOD; SHITTYSERVICEBASICALLY!

oh the smell the allure the predator in you awakens when you smell the divinity of baked breads and coffee nom nom nom have always heard of the place and lived close but never tried until a friend of mine placed an order for his family and requested me to pick up as a favor but i think of him as family so no worries i take the task on without delay. when i got there at 6 am first on line… i could see the dim lighting in the back of the store… i could smell the aroma of sweetness from the plethora of finely made bakery… salivating and patiently awaiting the door to open… i believe i looked like a mad man… eyes wide open… nostrils flared… got my friends’ order but placed mine the night before because i have come here for the lard bread some fine cookies and some awesomely made pastries and i scored big time. next time i am going in for the bagels and more coffee!!!

I work down the block from here and can’t help but go here every day on my way. The BESTBAGELS I’VEEVERHAD. Truly. And as my hips show, I have had a lot of bagels. Nothing here disappoints. I spend my tips from my work here, without fail. I have yet to actually buy a loaf of bread here, for fear I’d have no clue how to perfectly pair it with something else. Instead, I stick to their muffins and croissants and bagels — heavenly. Also, great coffee.

I’d had the lard bread before but never been in the bakery. Went in to get some for a friend I was visiting in Philly(that’s how good it is. that’s the one thing said friend wanted from NYC) and I about died it smelled so good inside. They weren’t busy so I asked the lady what I should try and she suggested sfogliatella — a pastry w ricotta and orange inside. SO good and the lady was very friendly. I mean, the lard bread is amazing but that pastry is definitely something Ill go back for.

Came at 6am, first one in the door. I really wanted to try the lard bread so I got one but when she handed it to me and I felt how soft it was and how good it smelled I immediately asked for another. When I got home about 2 hours later it was still soft and warm. I cut myself a big piece from the middle and it was probably the best piece of bread I’ve ever had. Worth the trip and the money. Will be back!

I finally had the lard roll with bits of salami and provolone this weekend. Honestly, I don’t see what the big fuss is about. The roll was freshly baked, but I prefer my bread sans salami. They did, however, have a lot of other good looking pastries that I’ll likely come back and try.

I love bread and I love that I randomly discovered this amazing bakery while in the neighborhood. Unfortunately I was there too late to try the lard bread… I will be back for that! Instead I had the raspberry rugelach and my sister had a cannoli. She said it was one of the best cannolis she has tasted. Since I couldn’t get the lard bread, I decided to get a Spinach loaf and this was the best food decision I made that day. The spinach loaf was delicious! I was curious about what it was and loved it! It was very garlicy, which is yummmmmay. But on a side note, lessen on the salt…

The perfect neighborhood bakery usually serving a mix of cops, moms, grandparents, and single people running errands. They do a great job with breads, rolls, and standard raised donuts. I particularly like the multi-grain loaf, which is a little more dense with a hint of sweetness. The spinach parmesan bread is a delicious savory treat. Note to parents and caregivers: strollers are too big for this little store. You can cram them in, but it’s not fun for anyone including you, when your child’s legs hit the containers full of cupcakes, knocking them on the floor and forcing you to feel like you have to buy them.

Mazzola is our go-to neighborhood bread bakery. They have some desserts but really the stars of this postage stamp-sized place are the bagels, breads, and a small selection of surprisingly good sandwiches that you can pull from a bin on the counter. I can’t comment on the ‘lard bread-o-mania’ of other Unilocalers, we haven’t tried it yet… but the bagels are outstanding. Get there early enough on a weekend morning and the bagels are so fresh they’ll slap you in the face. And at less than a buck per bagel — they are a steal. Tips for visitors: 1. Mazzola is tiny. Walk in the door and stick to the LEFT. Keep putting one foot in front of the other until you get to the back of the line, somewhere by the glassed in pastries. If you stop at the counter to eye the bagels… congrats, you are blocking the rest of us. 2. Know what you want before you get to the front. The ladies behind the counter will rattle off«what do you want?» fast and a quick answer will be appreciated by everyone behind you. 3. Bring cash — they don’t take checks or plastic.

Stopped in after brunch across the street for rainbow cookies, and they were easily some of the best I’ve ever had. I also picked up a sandwich for later — the prosciutto & mozzarella — which was very simple and tasty.

If you’ve got 6 dollars and an empty stomach — come to Mazzola… Buy a loaf of lard bread and enjoy the ride to utopia. I’m pretty sure I would give up my first born child for their lard bread!

I basically grew up down the block from this bakery, both of my grandmothers lived on union, and I would spend many days at their house, as a kid I would have to go up to mazzolas early in the morning with a dollar and get a seeded bread! It was always nice and warm, and my grandmother would put some whipped butter on it, and have that with coffee! Or make a nice potato & egg sandwich on seeded bread! Oh the memories of this place is incredible! We always had a loaf in the house! And even though I’m all the way in Park Slope I still try my hardest to stop by for a loaf, because a cold cut sandwich taste so much better on this bread, it’s always fresh, it’s always nice and soft, and some how some way, it’s always nice and warm! It’s great to see that mazzolas is still there, and as good as I remember it to be as a kid. Hands down the best Italian bread in Brooklyn!

Mazzola Bakery is one of the oldest and still family owned and operated bakerys in down town Brooklyn. Came in early on a sunday morning because I heard so many good things about their«lard bread». Lard bread is a long loaf of bread baked with spicy pieces of ham throughout the bread. This bread is something I grew up on being I am from Italian descent and its one of the best I have ever had. I did also try a few of their other baked goods. The chocolate croissant was very good. It was light and flaky with just the right amount of chocolate in the center. Their rainbow cookies where also very good. I also recommend the coffee. It’s a small bakery not very large inside at all. I do recommend you get there early in the morning if you want the«Lard bread». It’s popular and they do sell out very quickly and its also something you want as soon as it comes out of the baker’s oven.
