I can’t believe this place charges only $ 20 for a haircut! I just had my hair cut by Kasia. She listened carefully to my directions and gave me advices about how to style my hair. She is super professional, friendly and sweet!!! All the ladies that work at the salon are nice and talkative as well!!! I’m so happy I found this place! I will be back soon!!!

The only place in Brooklyn to get a 20 $ haircut that won’t have terrible service. She did an amazing job trimming my pixie cut and took her time to address my hair’s unique needs. I will definitely be back.

I got a fantastic haircut today for $ 20! It doesn’t get any better than that.

So talented and affordable that I tipped 100%, and it was still cheaper than any haircut I’ve ever gotten in Brooklyn!

I hadn’t had my hair cut in about a year and half, so it was looking pretty rough. Maria(I think) did a great job of trimming and cleaning it up. I am very, very happy with the result. It was $ 45 for wash, cut, and blow out. I knocked one star off because I had an appointment, but ended up waiting a half hour because the appointment before me showed up late. I wasn’t in a rush, but waiting is never fun. I do still recommend making an appointment if coming after work, as there were back to back appointments for every stylist when I was there. I will definitely be back for my next cut!

I love this place! I went there today to get my hair cut by Agnes. I really like the salon and the women who work there. Maria the owner is super sweet and Agnes did a great job cutting my hair. I’ll definitely recommend it and I will be back. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I usually go in once a month for a classic men’s haircut. I always come out happy and get plenty of compliments on my hair. They tend to get busy, so I recommend calling in for an appointment, as there might be a long wait if you just walk-in off the street.

This place is a miracle. The dream of a really great $ 20 haircut is alive and well in Greenpoint, people. Go ahead and tip them well, since if you’re like me, you haven’t paid $ 20 for a haircut since 1995. I have the flattest, thinnest, most boring hair in America, and a kind stylist at Maria’s made it look great. I can’t imagine your good fortune if you had good hair to start with and THEN went to Maria’s. Yes, as others have said, it’s nothing fancy in terms of décor, but I’d trade all the potted orchids and organic tea in the world for a great haircut for $ 20. I made an appointment and they were right on time… in and out in 30 mins. Definitely going back!

I don’t understand why a lot more hairdressers don’t do this — quick, no frills, no fuss haircuts at a cheap price! I paid $ 20 and gave the hairdresser a bigger tip because I’ve paid $ 300+ in the past to have my hair ruined by much fancier salons… Kasia was nice and did exactly what I asked for

I don’t understand why a dry haircut costs a standard $ 90 nowadays. COMETOMARIA’S! $ 20 got me the best cut I’ve had in years. About 3 inches off the back, with long layers, tapered in the front; exactly what I wanted, and then some! If you come on a weekday you might be able to walk-in, but don’t guarantee. They do get busy, especially on weekends, so I recommend an appointment. It’s a small place, can get a little warm in the summer if they’re running the dryers and curlers.

Thanks to Unilocal,I discovered Maria’s Hair Salon when I moved to NY three years ago. It takes me up to an hour to get to the salon but the great hair cuts are worth every subway stop! This place is not for the high-maintenance who wish to sip wine in a posh environment — it’s for the girl/guy who wants an amazing, high-end salon worthy haircut for $ 20. I have gotten endless compliments on my cut since I’ve been seeing Kasia, including from clients at the more expensive salon where I get my hair colored. I have curly hair that I usually style straight but when I do decide to wear it curly, it still looks great. Kasia is amazing!

Great experience from the first step into the Salon. I got an appointment at the same day. They are friendly, make beautiful haircuts and they are cheap. Washing, hair cut and blow drying for 25 $. I trusted Cashana she did a great job. She only trimmed but my hair is healthy again and the sides are in a nice shape now.

Awesome no frills but attentive hair salon. I first met Maria when I moved to the city to look for a job. No income meant I didn’t want to spend a lot on a haircut. I found Maria’s through Time Out, where it’s listed as one of the best cheap haircuts in the city. And it was. $ 20 for a basic cut can’t be beaten, and Maria does my platinum blond color like a pro. Now I’ve moved from the neighbourhood, and have a job but still keep coming back to Maria’s for the atmosphere, value and care.

I recently got my hair cut/colored here. Agnes, my stylist, did an amazing job on my hair. I couldn;r find a picture to show how I wanted my hair to look. After suggestions and counter– suggestions, I finally decided to leave it up to her. The end result was great, love the way my hair looks.

Ok, It’s more like a two-star, but I want to balance out all the five-stars here because really? I’m glad to hear others have had a good experience, but if you have wavy or curly locks, be forewarned. Yes, it’s Cheap. Yes, it’s Fast. But if you’ve ever heard of the Project Management Triangle, these two mean you’re sacrificing Good. I was looking for an inexpensive alternative to the hair scene in Manhattan, where a two-dollar-sign hair cut often reaches triple digits. So I went to Maria’s based on the review here on Unilocal. My triple-digit hair cuts have often been dry cuts, each curl treated like its own little entity and cut according to its deepest inner path of length & curl direction. I figured for a quick trim, I could give my wallet a break for once. Boy was I wrong. At this cheap alternative, the hair dresser didn’t even take the time to look at how my hair looks dry or ask how I usually wear or style it. She immediately went to shampoo, and then went out of her way to criticize the cut I had with the varying lengths of locks. She decided to cut it in two blunt layers, and told me if I style it straight it will look good. The news is, I don’t want to style it straight, I want to air dry it curly. And now when I air dry it curly, I basically have two poofy layers that render my hair into a snowman-type shape. Now I’m at the impasse of whether I should shell out the dough to get it cut right or the time to just straighten it on the daily. Curly girls, save your time and money and get it done right from the get-go.

I had a wonderful experience at Maria’s Hair Salon. Maria is super friendly and a very skilled hairdresser. She didn’t just rush to get to the next customer like I have experienced in other salons, but she did a thorough job making my hair look its best. I am incredibly satisfied with my haircut, the service, the staff, the salon and the nice price. I am definitely returning to this charming and neat salon in Greenpoint for my next appointment!

Awesome haircut, amazing price, great studio space — what’s not to love?! Thanks to the reviews here I called ahead to schedule an appointment with Kaisa(rhymes with Sasha). *Note, they’re closed Mondays so there was no answer when I tried calling on Monday. I only got a haircut(no wash), so she cut it dry with a spray bottle. She blow dried the dampness out. It was a great cut — no different than the $ 60 cuts I’ve had before. Seriously, $ 20 plus tip? I love it! I didn’t read enough reviews to get a heads up, but go in knowing Polish is the language of choice for the stylists. I’m new to Brooklyn, so I didn’t realize Greenpoint is a Polish-speaking area. All that said, it was easy chatting in English.

To echo Ellen C’s review, ladies with short hair, you’re better off paying a little extra and going somewhere else. I have a short hairstyle that unfortunately requires me to get monthly trims. In between visits to my regular(expensive) stylist, I’ve been trying out cheaper places to get said trims. I’d been to Maria’s before in my longer hair days and thought their services were basic but pretty good. Yesterday, I got my hair cut by Maria, who is really quite friendly and sweet. She kinda started hacking at it in a way I’ve never experienced since getting my hair cut short, cutting off blunt pieces, snipping away fast and randomly. I was a little nervous, but figured«what the hey, it’s just hair. It’ll grow back.» One day later, that’s still kind of my philosophy. Honestly, this haircut grows so fast that in a week, it’ll probably be fine. But yeesh. This cut is just bad — outdated and not flattering. When I look at the individual pieces, there are just random blunt and choppy chunks everywhere that reveal no kind of hair-cutting skill at all.(Think of what you did to your Barbie’s hair when you decided to cut her bangs.) I’m not happy with this cut, but I can live with it. I would not go back for a recut because it was $ 24 to begin with and frankly I don’t want my hair any shorter than what I asked for. All of the ladies here are nice. They cut cheaply. If you have long hair and need a pretty basic cut, I think it’s a great deal. But if you’re looking for something requiring more hair-cutting technique, you’re probably better off going somewhere else.
