Macys Carpet & Furniture Cleaning Dept

They came today, not in uniform as promised. I was quoted a price of $ 290 for a love seat and a couch and a walk up. The guy on the phone said he would not charge me for fuel??? Are you kidding me? When they came, they sat down and told me it would be $ 390. I told them to leave. They said they’d have to call their boss. Then they put the price down a bit and finally I told them I’d call Stanley Steemer then they complained about the walkup and said I didn’t add the stairs leading up to the building? I finally got them down to $ 300. Was it worth it? I’m not 100% sure. They used water and added some solution and showed me the dirty water when they were done. The pair that did the work were very nice.
I wouldn’t use them again. I felt like they were not professional-​saying one thing on the phone then saying something totally different in person. They said all the cushions were included and changed that also when they came.
I would go with another service. They definitely seem like a flim flam operation to me.
Don’t use them.

Ultimately, this is a fairly comical outfit.
Skip to the end… my shag off-​white rug came back much, much cleaner than it went out. But the in between is one for the books.
I bought a super kick-​ass floor sample shag rug from an awesome store for a fraction of the retail price. In the store, I noticed some discoloration, but I actually thought it was the lighting in the show room. But when I got it delivered to my apartmetn I realized… yeah…uh…no. It was the rug. The discoloration was where a thousand New Yorkers had walked across it. So I started looking for services to clean it. I read a bunch of Unilocal reviews and I just couldn’t really get a good grip on what I should do. So when I saw that Macy’s had a service, I thought, «OK…well…this is a name I know and have trusted since I was a wee little one growing up in Kansas.» So I went with them.
The dudes arrived when they said they would and rolled the rug up and carted it away. They set a return delivery for two weeks later. I got an email about a week in that basically said, «You need to call us and give us clearance to proceed with your rug because we may bring it back to you in worse condition than you sent it to us in.»
This immediately sent up a huge red flag. «What!?» What the hell were they going to do to it that would send it back in WORSE condition? So I called them to discuss. This is when it got just plain hilarious.
I spoke with a few people, gave them my order number, and finally was transfered to a woman who got on the phone with me.
«Mr. X», she said, «You have this cream shag rug?»
«Yup. That’s me.» I replied.
«That rug is EXTREMELY soiled.»
Awkward silence.
«Well…yes.» I said.
«It’s VERY dirty.» She reiterated.
Awkward silence.
«You’re a rug cleaning service, right?» I asked.
«I mean… you do clean rugs?»
Awkward silence.
«Yes…but this is a shag rug.» she intoned knowingly
Awkward silence.
«But it’s a rug.» I said. «You’re a rug cleaning service.»
Awkward silence.
«OK…uh…if you’re saying that you can’t clean it, then you can just deliver it back to me, not charge me, and I’ll try to find a shag specialist I guess.» I offered.
«Look. There is no shag specialist. We’ll do just as well with it as anyone will.» She retorted.
Awkward silence.
«So…do you not want to clean my rug?» I asked.
«No…No. We do.» She said.
«Well, I got this email that said it might come back damaged?» I asked.
«Oh…yes. Well, we just wanted to talk to you so you could… moderate your EXPECTATIONS. We’re going to do our best. But shag rugs are hard.» She said.
I said, «Listen. I got it as a floor sample from XXX. It’s had a bunch of people walk on it. I’m sure that if you guys shampoo the hell out of it a couple of times, no matter what it looks like, it will at least be much cleaner than I sent it to you.»
«OK» she said. «It just might not come back to you looking like new.»
My expectations were incredibly moderated at this point. I said, «Listen. I believe in you and your service. I know that if you go in there and you hit that thing a couple of times with the shampoo, it’s going to be much better than I sent it in.»
Beat.
«OK. Thank you very much.» she said.
And with that, we hung up.
Suffice it to say, I expected NOTHING. Hell, I did half expect it to come back torn in half with dog shit on it. I mean… what the hell? No matter what, I was thinking I’d have to rely on my dimly lit living room to disguise my not so clean rug.
The day before my scheduled delivery I got a call from Macy’s.
«Hey there Mr. XXX» the man on the other end said.
«Hi.» I said.
«Listen, so… uh, we know we’re scheduled to deliver this rug back to you tomorrow. But our manager just took a look at it and he’s not happy with the outcome. So… would you mind if we kept it a little longer and washed it a couple of more times?»
I smiled at the thought that there was some quality control going on somewhere on the other end and said, «Absolutely NOT. Keep it as LONG as you want to until you guys feel like it’s in good shape. Keep it three weeks if you have to wash it three more times»
«Thanks for understanding Mr. XXX» he said. Then we scheduled a new delivery time.
Again…to recap the beginning of this review… the rug came back (at the delivered time!) in really good shape. The grey shaded areas where the feet of a thousand New Yorkers had walked were indistinguishable from the rest o the rug. One end of the rug looked slightly shrunk in a bit, as if all the washing had slightly warped the edges. But that end of the rug is comfortably under my couch and out of full view.
The important thing is that the rug was clean, free from stains, and is now a welcome addition to my home.
But the process of getting it done was just plainly ridiculous.
Ultimately, I wouldn’t use Macy’s for this service again. But the work that did eventually get done was good work.
Although I did get a good story out of it.

We had two carpets cleaned. The shag rug cleaning was abysmal. It came back matted, with obvious human hair and when we turned in upside down and beat it, a tremendous amount of dirt came out. They apparently do not vacuum the carpet or brush out the nap.
When we called to complain the General Manager said it was not their responsibility because they warned my wife that they do not do well with shags and had her sign a form waiving all responsibility. Why do they accept work they are not competent to perform? When I called to complain, the GM became very angry and said, «Are you looking for free cleaning? If a you went to a doctor and died on the table would you be looking for a refund?» Duh, no I’d be dead, but if my wife was the one that died after asking for a pimple to be removed damn straight I would be suing his butt.
Do not use them under any circumstances. MACY’S should be appalled that they use such an unprofessional subcontractor that has sullied their name.

Called Macy’s carpet cleaning to hopefully clean my very dirty, stained off-​white wall-​to wall berber carpet. They showed up on time and did a really great job. Will definitely call them in the future!
