Mac Shack

It is pretty good. Sounds better then it probably is, and reheated is kind of whatever. Definitely a good meal, but I don’t know if i’ll order again.

Something has changed — the taste/​flavor of the food is definitely lacking. It’s actually a little upsetting and beyond disappointing. For this reason i stopped buying food here about 6 months ago. I decided to try again (hey, its a new year). But NO! I was wrong again, nothing changed. My mac was burnt — severely. There was no cheese. Just a bunch of chopped up/​dry pieces of bland jerk chicken.
I fell in love with this place in the beginning. I don’t know who/​what has changed things, but i can’t keep wasting money. Last time (summer 2015) i ordered seafood mac and that was not cheap at all. Burnt and wasted. Smh
Lesson learned. No more. Don’t waste your time and money here. I’m so disappointed. At least i tried again.

Deliciousness Deliciousness! I ordered the Mac with the smoked duck confit and it was absolutely delicious! I would rate that as one of my favorite Mac and cheeses ever. I also ordered mini versions of the buffalo, and jerk chicken mac and cheeses, they were both great. I had the the shrimp on another occasion and thought it was nice, but had a milder flavor. They have delivery so I’ll definitely try the others.

I always drive by here and see a crowd, so today I stopped in here on a whim and decided to try the jerk shrimp mac n cheese and veggie mac and cheese. The jerk shrimp mac n cheese is nasty, has too much sage but the veggie mac n cheese is spot on! A lil too much bread crumbs but will omit it on my next visit here.

On a whim last night we decided to order some Mac n Cheese. Called in placed the order, staff member said 20mins. Cool, we waited a few left the house arrived food not ready. Still cool. We got home overly excited only to discover the entire order (chicken mac, shrimp Mac, and wings) were barely even room temperature. To say the least it was cold.
Out of annoyance I put the wings and the shrimp Mac in the microwave just to make it edible, still no Bueno! Needless to say we won’t be returning, we will just take the trek up Manhattan.

I loved it! Great array of Mac & cheese. Small and funky place! Service was pretty cool. To find parking isn’t that great. But it was well worth it !

I love the jerk chicken mac and cheese. My only complaint is the excessive bread crumbs only the top, otherwise absolutely delicious.

I’m on the fence with this place. As of this review, I’ve tried their mac three times, once at a festival and twice in house.
I originally saw this place online and was very intrigued. I’m a fatty at heart and always love to scope out the food hot spots in town. I was excited to see them vending at a festival and tried their mushroom mac and cheese. It definitely satisfied my cheese cravings and they were not skimpy with the mushrooms.
I bragged about the place to my cousins and they were sold. We stopped in last Saturday night, maybe 7pm. Big mistake! Anyway, lemme proceed.
Cousin #1 ordered the buffalo mac and cheese and the lemonade. According to him, it was nothing to write home about. He scarfed it down without sharing a bite with family so I can’t tell you if he was being gripy about the wait. No word on the lemonade’s tastiness.
Cousin #2 has a gluten allergy. Mac Shack does have vegan and gluten free options, which she was initially excited about. However, she didn’t go home with any mac and cheese to try. She’d ordered the Sheepshead Bay, gluten free version. Explanation below.
I ordered the Sheepshead Bay (the shrimp option) and requested added broccoli. Now back to the play by play.
We waited over an hour to receive two of the three orders. Kevin, the owner (and current counter staff), would tell us our food was on its way every 15 minutes or so. At the hour mark, Kevin told us that they just thawed the veggie (non-​glutenous) bechamel for Cousin #2 and it doesn’t look right, so he can’t serve it. I asked him if he just now pulled out the sauce (versus closer to when we first ordered) and he had no words. At this point we discussed that Cousin #2 will have to get her dinner from another restaurant. Kevin took her meal off our total. Another 20+ minutes had passed and Cousin #1 and I get our meals. I open mine up and there’s no broccoli! Worse yet, there’s maybe 3 baby shrimp in the container! Frustrated, I went back in to get a solution.
I told him that the recipe stated that my Sheepshead Bay had gluten-​free noodles and stated «add broccoli,» but there was no broccoli to be found. I tried to tell him that I just wanted a refund, but I couldn’t get a word in because he was manning the phones. He took the mac and ten minutes later came back with broccoli infused mac. He also gave me a card for a free mac in the future for all of the trouble we’ve had. You know when you empty your bag of freezer broccoli and you have the icy crumbs at the bottom? NO LIE, this mirrored the broccoli in the dinner. I was so disappointed.
Fast forward to last night, I went back to get my «on-​the-​house» mac and cheese. Kevin was not there at the time, but the nice girl behind the counter (Shenée? maybe) gave me no trouble. The order took 30 minutes, which is definitely reasonable. This time I got the veggie, add jerk. This time the broccoli was real broccoli. There was a reasonable amount of veggies in there. To be honest, the mac this was okay, but it was free so… meh.
Bottom line, if I’m craving cheese, am in the area, and am prepared to wait, then I may pay them a visit. I attribute Saturday to the fact that they’re popular and new. They have a lot of kinks to work out though. You’ve been made aware.

I honestly don’t know how you could go wrong with mac & cheese. The service here was great, they were super duper helpful and friendly! There’s quite a selection of mac & cheese on the menu which is great because I love variety. We decided on the Buffalo Chicken mac & cheese and it was pretty good! I enjoyed every bite :)
FYI it is a very small spot and there’s only seating along the wall + window, I would say there’s room for about 7 people to sit.
I am not nearby this area but if I were ever to be around I would definitely try a different flavor!

Other than the displeasing wings, I have nothing negative to say about Mac Shack. Usually when I visit NY, I have to find a way to get to MacBar off Prince St. because it has always been the best mac & cheese I’ve ever eaten. Now, I can avoid the Manhattan track and chill in Brooklyn with Mac Shack which is more than comparable and in some ways maybe even better than Manhattan’s MacBar or S’MAC (for those who enjoy super-​salty mac). The jerk chicken mac & cheese here in Mac Shack is so good… absolutely FLAWLESS combination of spice with perfectly cooked chicken and well-​paired cheeses. The lobster claw mac is so good, and the bacon mac has a ton of bacon (but it’s definitely shareable). If you’re a newbie start off with the $ 12 minis — you can pick any 3 from their menu, and it’s a great way to try some and find you’re favorite. Once you find your favorite, you’ve gotta order the small just so you can be shocked at how many meals you get out of this. Delivery was very smooth, and the ginger lemonade was insanely delicious.
Overall, great drinks and some of the best mac & cheese I’ve ever had (minus the disappointing wings) makes Mac Shack one of the best in the area! I’ll come back without a doubt!

Oh Mac Shack… definitely our «treat yo self» place on seamless. A primarily Mac and cheese restaurant, we have tried many of the combinations here and not been disappointed. Pricing is generally $ 7 – 10 for a small sized (enough for 1) portion or double that for a large size portion (serves 2 with some leftover). We usually get two small sizes so we can try different flavors. The classic is a good traditional Mac and cheese, super cheesy with breadcrumbs on top! Both Brooklyn (north and south) are also tasty as well as the bed sty (with hamburger). They have a number of unique options (buffalo, pesto, etc) that will tempt adventurous types!
A word of caution… things move slowly here so order an hour before you’d like it to be ready!

I went in during my lunch break and ordered a Jerk Mac and Cheese. When I ask about the wait the owner (slightly plump African American male with tired looking eyes) seemed to be slightly annoyed I asked but of course I had no choice but to wait anyway. Once I got my food he seemed to pack the bag even slower lol i guess out of spite.
well I rush back to work to eat my lunch and it was so delicious until a long hair was discovered in my food. I immediately felt sick. I stirred through and found another. I took pictures of it and send them to Mac Shack through a tweet. I even told him I enjoyed the food until that. I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t receive a response or an apology. that is why I decided to post my review on Unilocal.So that was my first and last time eating there. No thanks. good concept but unhygienic food service workers… unless that was revenge for asking how much longer.
oh if the owner contacts you (through a Unilocal email) in reference to your review. he will more than likely not answer his phone. if a voicemail is left. he will not return your call. thanks.

Ordered: Brooklyn South and BBQ chicken mac
Pros – The Brooklyn south had a great crunchy top and gooey inside.
Cons – The BBQ chicken mac was way too flavorful and it was hard to finish it, even with the Brooklyn south to offset the strong flavor.

Ordered on seamless today for lunch at work; ordered 3 minis for $ 12 and a large mango lemonade.
I decided to try the Prospect Park (cheddar cheese with broccoli). It was decent, great cheddar cheese flavor, and I did have broccoli, but I wish there was more broccoli head and less broccoli stalk.
I tried the Brooklyn Claw (lobster mac). The cheeses of the macaroni paired well with the lobster. The lobster would have been great if the lobster was spread out throughout the macaroni rather than being used as a topping.
Last but not least I tried the Sheepshead Bay (shrimp Mac). The cheese was decent although I didn’t taste the barbecue sauce. If the Monterey Jack cheese was less subtle it would have been above average. I received three pieces of shrimp, I mean who’s counting? But the three shrimp that I did receive were savory, just wish I had more to accompany my noodles.
To finish off my meal I attempted to wash down my meal with my mango lemonade, which I figured would taste pretty refreshing. Seemed like it was more of a syrup or a nectar, rather than a lemonade. The ’ lemonade ’ aspect didn’t even seem to be there. And to top it off, I didn’t even get a straw.
Maybe I’m better off cooking at home

I’ve just had wayyyy too many bad experiences with this place. I’m only giving it 1 star because their sweet and sour wings is good and because i can’t give ZERO stars.
Their delivery service is crap! Their wait times is complete sh! t…the food after the first taste is crap as if they just got sloppy and no longer make good food as they once used to (and i say that because I’ve been here several times and the quality has gotten worse each time)
The woman who answers the phone has a stink attitude and quick to cut you off hence why she can never get the order right! You’re only getting paid to answer the phone so atleast fake it till you make it!
I’ve picked up my food twice on separate occasions and after waiting over 30mins they totally gave me the WRONG order.
I just can’t with this place anymore. Gave them too many failed chances. That’s it, goodbye.

Having just moved to the delivery area for this restaurant, I was super excited to get delivery from the place. Delivery took forever, but the delivery driver was nice. Then I realized they had sent the wrong food and I had eaten food I cannot eat. I called and the VERY RUDE woman who answered tried to fight with me about how my order came through from Grub Hub. It was an issue with them and Grub Hub… Not with me!!! Her bad attitude is going to cost this restaurant A LOT of business.
This place would’ve been a go to place for me (and I always get delivery), but there is no way I would order again based on the VERY POOR customer service.

When i came into this spot, i was surprised to see how tiny the place was! Def not a date night spot. I ordered in advance and picked up. The shrimp mac was awesome. Well seasoned. Small shrimps. Thought they would be jumbo. I’ll be trying the lobster mac next time.
I ordered the jerk wings and they were horrible. It was basically baked chicken with some sort of sauce on it. Very soggy. Nothing jerk about it. I even shared with 2 of my coworkers to see if it was just me. They didn’t like it either.
The shrimp mac and 6 jerk wings came up to $ 16.33

I only deduct a star because it literally takes close to two hours for delivery, but the food is always warm closer to the hot side. But who wants to wait to eat anyway? :)
Other than that, the food is SO fucking amazing! I seriously over eat EVERY SINGLE TIME! You get a lot for the price and it’s utterly amazing!

Mmmm ooey gooey delicious Mac and cheese (I got original) the cheese in there was great and it was crunchy on top which is what every Mac and cheese lover wants. Next I have to mention the guy behind the counter don’t know his name but he was very personable and cool! I asked for buffalo sauce with my wings Instead of the sauces that came on the menu and it was no problem and they came out delicious. The buffalo sauce was not very spicy but still good. I will definitely be coming back to try other things on the menu mmm mmm mmm :)

First thing first, the mac is dank. The staff is friendly and I lined their drinks. It’s reasonably priced and the portions are huge.
Points off for quality. My friend and I both had mild food poisoning (so much pooping) after eating a small mac. I only assume this was due to substandard cheese used.
