It’s not often that you meet a smart, conscientious person who is on the cutting edge of high-​tech beauty, who makes you feel welcome and safe and beautiful. I can recommend Jen Katz and Lumena without reservation.

I got three laser hair removal sessions done here, in the beginning it was great, but after when I wanted to schedule more appointments they would tell me that they were booked for the month or two! They did it to me for April and May and proceeded to say they didn’t have anything until June… so I stopped coming here and I stopped trying to books appointments, at some point I felt like by didn’t want me to come there anymore because every time I tried booking an appointment they would tell me they were booked. I go to sacred skincare spa now, their prices are great, and they give you chocolate and refreshments as u wait along with creams to use after your laser treatment. Much better service. And also I’ve never canceled any appointments with them or was ever late, I was always nice and even tipped each time. My sister was a client there as well and they treated me differently based on their experience with her which is not fair at all. They were always rude with her and never professional, they knew they were wrong bc they were always quick to snap at her. I was always nice always on time never late always tipped but bc of their experience with my sister they treated me differently! Funny how Jennifer says she knows the owners of the other spa but mean while when I mentioned them, they had no idea who she was, I was just leaving an honest review but since I didn’t give a 5 star rating Jennifer felt the need to be nasty with me, I am my own person, stop being bias and treating ppl the same based on their knowing of each other, nice to hear business is booming but you won’t have me as s customer anymore, Kait was nice, and you Jennifer never have done treatments on me only my sister so relax and learn how to speak to customers if you want to continue running a successful business. Have a good day, and learn to take advice

I went to book another appointment today and realized I hadn’t written a review yet– this place rocks.
Jen is awesome. She is a skilled technician and her bedside manner is fantastic. I came here for a basic facial and glycolic peel, and it was anything but basic. She went to town, recommending treatments that would suit my skin and implementing them expertly. She explained everything as we went and told me what sensations to expect.
I have acne prone, oily skin and constantly struggle with treatments to make it better. I went to Jen two months ago, and my skin is STILL quite improved versus before I went. Can’t wait to go back!

Jen is warm and professional. I’ve gone to many, many Laser Hair Removal places, and she by far spends the most time and care making sure she’s scoured every inch of me:-) She has been so flexible and even gave me a discount just because she’s nice. There’s no one else I’d go to now!

I had the microdermabrasion facial & Genesis laser treatment done by Kaitlin. Truly amazing work!

Jenn is kind, professional and great customer service. She is very knowledgable about her trade and you definitely feel in good hands. I am African American and was concerned about doing laser hair removal on my skin. I have had two sessions on my bikini line and one on my facial hair. I feel confident that I will get good results!

This place really is as good as it gets! I would give it 6 stars if I could. Here’s 6 reasons why;
1. It was really easy to make my appointment using their online system. They sent me an email confirmation before my appointment. I called the lounge to confirm my appointment because it was New Years eve and I wanted to be sure they would be open. There was no answer but they called me back immediately to confirm. The number also receives text messages. I texted twice (I must’ve been an annoying customer :) and heard back immediately both times. A+ for being «easy to reach»
2. I added my sister to the appointment last minute without any problem. A+ for being accommodating
3. The lounge is in the Carroll Gardens/​Gowanas section of Brooklyn so it wasn’t that hard to get to. There is street parking which can sometimes be tough to find in that area but I found a spot on the same street. This area also has a bunch of great lunch spots nearby so you can make a day of it. A+ for the great location!
4. The Beauty lounge itself was nicely decorated. Artsy but not cluttered. The space isn’t huge but it was nice and I could tell that every piece of art was carefully selected. Even the bathroom was nicely decorated. It has this rustic, woodsy (if thats a word), antique feel to it which is nice in a spa. A+ for décor.
5. My sister and I got laser hair removal. I did some research prior to coming to this place to be sure that they had a machine that was good for black skin and corse hair. I have done laser hair removal in the past that wasn’t as effective as I thought after all 6 treatments. This place has both laser machines and I was confident it would be effective without burning my skin. Additionally, Jen was really knowledgeable and explained how everything worked before she did anything. When it was time to begin I felt really comfortable. A+ for service.
6. I really loved Jen. She is the owner and technician at Lumena. She is sweet and knowledgable and anticipated everything that could possibly make me uncomfortable before I even asked. She asked me about my comfort level every step of the way adjusting the level of laser to match. This made me feel like my experience was customized just for me. My sister told me she did the same for her, adjusting for her more sensitive areas. She was also easy to talk to (trust me, I’m an introvert who generally hates interacting with people). Additionally, Jen gave be a discount price with a complimentary service I can cash in later just because! When I tried to tip her, she didn’t take my tip because she felt that I had spent enough money that day. A+ for good people!
If all my experiences at smaller independently owned businesses were like the experience I had today, I would definitely say bye bye to bigger franchises.

It’s all fun and games until that cute barista calls you m’am. That said: I had been to a few spas in Manhattan before Lumena but they were A) out of the way B) very expensive C) didn’t properly address my skin concerns. Lumena is everything I’ve been looking for and Jen Katz is very knowledgeable, funny and a pleasure to be around. I had a light microdermabrasion, Laser Genesis followed by a cooling cucumber mask and a copper serum. Very relaxing. The texture of my skin is smooth, the redness diminished, my pores seem smaller and I have been getting compliments on the radiance. She gives great advice on skincare and doesn’t push products on you. I will definitely be returning for a series of treatments. I couldn’t be happier with the results!

I struggled with clogged skin, dark spots and sun damage for years until I started to see Jennifer Katz. She suggested a laser treatment that in my opinion worked miracles. I have very sensitive skin so it took me a long time to find a place that I trusted. I am also VERY picky when it comes to service. She was so professional yet fun at the same time when treating me. She is straightforward and never pushes products or treatments you don’t need. My skin looked fresher and clearer after one treatment. She also did an amazing facial with made me a regular customer. There are not a lot of high quality spas in the area so I was really happy to discover her. I even started getting my hair colored and cut with Kristi at the salon Fringe. She is very good with blond color. Great establishment and amazing addition to the neighborhood. I highly recommend.

I’ve been getting laser hair removal for a few years, on and off. I started going to Lumena a few months ago. The space is clean and modern, like a treatment room you’d find in a moderate to expensively priced spa. Jen evaluated my skin and gave me her analysis — it was clear to her that I’d had some laser treatments but there were stubborn or missed areas that weren’t responding. I wasn’t sure I’d always been treated with the right laser in the past, but she confirmed she had a Yag, which is the right laser for skin of color. She kept checking in with me to make sure I was comfortable and I was — she kept the discomfort at bay with a cooling gel and the treatment was thorough and pretty painless. Not to mention, Jen is both professional and extremely personable. Best of all, I’m starting to see the results that have been alluding me. My skin is smooth, the pores/​follicles are less visible, and there’s barely been any new growth between treatments which have been about 5 weeks apart. Finally I found a place that I want to keep going back to, it’s a really nice space, the treatment isn’t painful, I’ve gotten really good results, and I’ve found an aesthetician I really like. Next time I’ll try a facial.

When I moved from LA to NYC I struggled to find the right person to take care of my skin. That was, until I met Jennifer Katz! People tell me on a regular basis how great my skin looks and I owe it to her. I moved to Europe for a while and couldn’t see her for about six months and thank goodness we have been reunited! My face is so much happier!
I like how she analyzes the skin and makes treatment recommendations without being pushy. She never tries to shove products on me, either. Her facility is comfortable and relaxing and she is very personable and goes with the flow. We’ve all had that person that won’t stop talking when we’re trying to relax! She is sociable and kind, but not a «chatty Kathy»! I have NEVER felt like she was rushing to get through my treatment; she takes pride in her work.
As a model and on-​air host I need my mug to look it’s best. She brings out the best and that is why I recommend her to all my friends!

Kaitlin has been my aesthetician for years (facials w/​laser genesis, micro, etc) and I won’t go to anyone else. She’s a perfectionist at what she does, she always takes time to analyze my skin to figure out which service I need.
I just went by Lumena for the first time, and the space is really cute! They’re super accommodating, I don’t feel rushed and there’s a cute backyard. I’m glad Kaitlin’s there, the vibe is way better than most spas I’ve been to.

I bought a deal for one laser hair removal session through Lifebooker. It was my first experience with laser hair removal and Jennifer (owner) did a fantastic job making me feel at ease, taking her time explaining everything and also taking her time throughout the session to make sure she didn’t miss any spots. She’s very professional and it is obvious that she cares about doing a good job so I’ll continue being a client and I highly recommend her.

It’s true, Jen Katz really is as good as it gets — she is amazing — Lumena is all you need to get skin glowing and beautiful.

I thought about getting laser hair removal for years and was worried that it wouldn’t work out, but after a friend recommended Jen I have never looked back. The results have been amazing and I have recommended Jen 100% to all my friends. I’m so glad that she has opened her own place and although I live in Manhattan it is worth the trip to Brooklyn to see her!
