idk why this place has such negative reviews. I have a fluffy pomeranian that needed to be groomed for this humid weather. He turned out sooo cute. Will be back to post the pictures

I happened to be in the area and saw this place. There was a line of people picking up and dropping off their dogs. There were two people working — the guy at the front desk and a woman that was taking the pets in to the back to get groomed. I quickly asked the lady if they groom cats, more specifically give lion cuts. She was extremely informative and kind. The guy, on the other hand, was extremely rude. He yelled at her saying, «these people were in line first. not her. Take the dog.» I don’t think I have ever received such poor customer service. I didn’t wait in line because who the hell would want to deal with someone like that? They will never get my business. I’m sure that the groomers do a fantastic job but I’d never step foot into this joint simply because of how rude the guy is.

I didn’t want to take my dog here because of the negative reviews, but it was so close that we tried it out. We’ve now gone back four times and every time he comes out looking handsome and happy! The staff is great, they treat the dogs well and they place is clean. I’m not sure if the bad reviews were under different management, since I know they moved their location in the last year, but I love them.

Honestly, I was reluctant to try this place because of the reviews but after checking it out in person I brought my Mini-​Schnauzer in for a long overdue grooming. She looks perfect, they listened to all of my neurotic dog parent requests, and she even came out with a necklace and a to-​go bag of treats! The place is super clean and wasn’t too loud so my baby was comfortable when we went in. We’ll be back again!

The only reason why we took our dog here was that it was a block away. Now that it’s a mile away, we’re going to Buddy’s Dog Den from now on. Looking at their 4.5 star review (as opposed to Lucy’s 2 star review) why would we ever go back? Not to mention, it’s the same $$! I hate to say it, but Lucy’s is just plain disgusting. Also, It’d be nice not to need a translator to speak to the staff.

My over all experience taking my dog to this place was really good a lil pricey but she came out looking wonderful. It was a walk in and they fit her in to there busy schedule Thank you Lucy’s lucky dog

Worst Business I’ve Ever been in! The Owner in the Front is Nasty, Rude, Disrespectful & does not care about animals in the least! He was so rude to the customer ahead of us, I thought maybe he was just having a bad day but he kept on saying nasty things you never say to a costumer! Then he began addressing us the same way! Talking down to us & out rite treating us as if we were garbage. So how could I leave them with our most valuable possession?!? The women there who groom the pets are great but this place is clearly not there as part of a loving pet community! Instead it’s Only a Money Factory for this man! I sensed it the first time we were there. I should of just went by my instincts! Our only day off we were planing this all week for Nothing!

HORRIBLE PLACE… this is not recent but I decided to post since alot of my friends go to this place. Years back I was a loyal customer to this place, I have a teacup yorkie about 4lbs and this is the only place I used to take her to get groomed. One day I went to pick up my little princess, paid the big owner who is always at the front desk and went to pick up my dog from the lady holding her, as I grabbed her I noticed her paw was full of blood [wish I would have thought to take pics at the time] so look into where the blood is seeping from and noticed they cut the blood line to her nail so I tell the owner and his response was «Oh well it happens» so I say no it does not happen, its carelessness because her bloodline was cut really deep and then to top it off she was still bleeding, how did they not see this? so I was aggravated at the response he was giving me then he tells me «you act like its a kid, she’ll be fine» once he said that I wanted to pop him a good one, like really??? your in a field of business like this answering your customers in this way. I was amazed and told him he will never see me again and he can go F**K himself just like that in those words and he said you can do the same. They did cut her and I understand mistakes do happen but the way they cut her so deep was pure carelessness to me and then giving me the I dont care responses was frustrating as hell to me. Then about 6 months later they came out in the newspaper, they left 2 dogs in the dryer too long and they died. Dont remember the kind but I know one was small like mine and all black. These ppl are pure careless and should not be in business if they dont love pets the way we love ours. Please re-​consider going to them if you love your pet. I was their customer for about 3 years straight and them bam.

I wish i can give this place 0 stars the staff is rude the place is disgusting, unsanitary i took my poor dog here she came back with cuts and bruises the muzzled her those poor dogs are in little cages, my dog came back like a dope fiend she didn’t sleep eat drink play nor bark she laid in her bed i don’t know what they did to her but it was not good she was so afraid shaking in her bed after reading some of the reviews on here i know i am not alone on how some if the animals were getting treated here, please save your pets from this horror. since then i took my dog to my two dogs this is place is great actually great is a understatement its 5 stars… Never going to lucys again!

I took my cat here to get groomed in 2007, and will never take her back. The place seemed dirty and sketchy as soon as we walked in, so I never should have left her there. They cut some of her nipples when shaving her hair. meow-​ch!

I have been wondering about this place ever since I moved to the hood, the sign indicating groomers led me to believe I wouldn’t be here much, since I have a rugged pup that prefers not to be bathed and likes to roll in poop on the regs so often finds himself taking a shower with me instead of me trying to drag his wild self to a pro.
Finally I figured what the heck they may have some good supplies, after all the windows are filled with toys and goodies. The first time I went in was an extremely strange experience and made me feel like I didn’t belong. The lady did show me some of the bags they offered for dogs and they were much more affordable than the other local options for dog supplies but with that affordable price came a little bit of a cheap or tacky look. So I decided to keep looking.
Today I went in and there was a man and a woman there and it was a completely different experience, this time from my boyfriend’s need to frequently bathe our little guy he’s started to get dry itchy skin so I thought I’d better get him some real dog shampoo with some anti itch. They happily helped me choose a good shampoo to use and when I read the label it was exactly what I had asked for. They were both very friendly and laughed with me at my stupid jokes. The shampoo was $ 12 which seems like a lot to me, but hey I’m cheap. Everything else I’ve seen there though was much less money than other places around so I figured what the heckkk. I’d recommend popping in if you’re in need of some simple supplies and have a low budget, this place is tiny but packs a lot in there.

DESPICABLE! I am so upset and appalled at what I subjected my poor dog to! I have added a photo so that all can see that there is no exaggeration here.
I brought my Maltese puppy to Lucy’s Lucky Dog for a grooming. Simple hair and nail cut, plus bath. Well there was nothing Lucky about Lucy’s today!
After dropping off our dog, my husband gets a phone call stating that our dog was «nicked» during the grooming and that they were sorry. When my husband went to pick up our dog he was horrified by what he saw. Our dog had a gash on his leg, not a nick, and it appeared that skin was missing. This was no small «nick» one might get from shaving, this was a horrific gaping hole in our dog’s leg! (Again picture is attached to the profile so you can see for yourself!). The groomer offered his explanation of what happened, «the dog kept moving». Really!!! What do you expect a dog to do?! If you are a professional groomer you should be able to deal with a LIVE dog that will OBVIOUSLY move while being groomed!
I am truly dumbfounded by what happened and I blame myself. Like many of you, I chalked up the negative reviews to picky customers who probably exaggerated their events. DON’T MAKE MY MISTAKE. HEED THESE WARNINGS AS MINE IS NOT THE ONLY ONE… DO NOT BRING YOUR PET TO LUCY’S LUCKY DOG! Go anywhere else if you truly care about your pet. My dog is currently awaiting treatment at an animal hospital because of this business’ negligence.
BE KIND TO YOUR PET AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

i love this place, i have been taking my poodle for 3yrs, and they already know him there and they do a great job, they can handle my baby. I will admit i tried The little pet shop by my way just because i didnt want to take the walk to LLD… BIG mistake, they did a horrible job and nipped my poodle and he ended up hving to open wounds! …so i will walk to LLD anytime

I hate writing this update.
The groomers either shaved over or burned two of my cat’s nipples when I brought her in last week. They were bright red and started to scab after a couple of days. Fortunately, they do seem to be healing well with ointment. My poor baby.
I had a bad feeling when I handed the carrier over to the groomer and she didn’t carry it right… just let it drop so my cat slid to the back. But the first experience was so great, I thought it would be okay.
I’ll add that after a week she still smells strongly of perfume… I have no idea what the hell they use, or why?
The groomers speak no English, as other reviewers have mentioned. Who knows WHERE they are trained, if they are trained at all, or what other unprofessional sketchy things go on at this place.
DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE.

I’ve been taking my daughters dog Lala to Lucy’s Lucky Dog for years with few complaints. Their prices are reasonable, Lala looked spiffy after her wash and grooming, and the staff is friendly. The bad news, I discovered slight bleed from near her privates after picking her up from one visit and a cut on her face after her last visit. The cut on her face was concealed by hair (she’s a Wheaten or Wheaten mix) and my daughter noticed it before I did. When I actually looked at it it was healing and it heal badly. I have to take here to the Vet to evaluate the growth that developed where the cut was. I’ll be trying out ‘My Two Dogs’for her next grooming. I have to rate them 3 stars because it’s the only place she’s been groomed since we got her from B.A.R.K. and were not problematic except for those two occasions.

I went here today. The guy barely spoke English. The place was ridiculously crowded with kennels and tied up dogs. I asked the groomer to cut my dog’s nails. Instead of taking him into a room with a vet’s table (common practice) the guy leaned over the counter, muzzled my dog, and started trying to cut his nails. I have a big dog with a lot of energy who is terrified of having his nails clipped but the guy wouldn’t listen even though my dog was clearly distressed. I walked out. I won’t be back. The lack of professionalism here is astounding. Don’t take your dog to Lucy’s Lucky Dog. Go elsewhere.

Out of control. My dog’s hair, that is. Wiry and coarse, it resembles the texture of pipe cleaners when left untamed.
Something had to be done. And fast.
I e-​mailed District Dog about their prices. Their response? «Sorry, we’re not doing grooming at the moment.» What kind of groomers are you?
I’m glad this happened. I’m one of those people who believe everything happens for a reason, the believer who thinks it’s fate when he arrives right on time as the L train pulls in.
I called LLD to ask about prices. I knew the voice on the other side belonged to someone friendly when I asked more and more questions and he kept saying, «Yes, go on» in a very non-​cynical voice.
I dropped my dog off and knew he was in good hands. They were willing to listen to what I wanted.
I went back 4 hours later (which he warned me about) and didn’t recognize my dog. In the best way. He was beautiful. If I wanted Michelangelo to paint/​sculpt my dog, this would be the time. (Yes, I know. He’s dead. Michelangelo, not my dog)
If that isn’t enough to persuade you, there’s a White Castle next door.

I’ve been walking by this place for years, thinking about bringing my Poodle mix, Sophie, whom I have had for five years. Sophie does not handle being groomed very well, a previous groomer I took her too told me to come pick her up because she was too aggressive. So I have been wary of taking her to groomers, and cut her hair myself, which she doesn’t like much either, and I do not do a very good job of it!
Anyway, after stopping this place and asking what she would get, same as other people mentioned, cut, cleaning, nails trimmed, and «anal expression» for $ 60 (I guess their rates have not gone up since last year!). They also mentioned that it is first come first served, so show up early if you want your dog in and out quick.
So Sunday morning I dropped her off first thing (8 AM). I was told it would take about 2 hours. Went home, a little worried that they might call saying she was too hard to trim and I should pick her up.
Well, they did call me 95 minutes later, saying she was all done and to come pick her up! She looked great, with a nice short summer haircut, and she seemed very happy.
Needless to say, I was very happy with my experience here and I recommend this place very much and will use again. I only regret I have not taken her there earlier.

Update 5÷15÷2014. I have continued to take Sophie here for the last four years, and have always been happy with her haircuts here. Not sure why so many people have complaints about this place. One thing I will say, because they take no reservations, and are first come first served, I always make a plan to take her at 8 o’clock when they first open, so the turn around is quick. I think you really need to plan your day around getting your dog there soon if you want a good experience, those experiences where people waited all day to get their dog back sound just terrible to me. I think bringing your dog here in the afternoon is just asking for trouble.

My girlfriend and I adopted our dog Sammy from the Humane Society last weekend and he needed a grooming very badly. He’s a Cocker Spaniel that would commonly get confused as a Poodle because of his long doggie ringlets.
This is our first dog in the city and I was clueless about the things a pooch needs to go through in a grooming — this isn’t a simple wash/​cut/​thanks-​see-​you-​later.
After doing a search for groomers in the Williamsburg and Bushwick areas, I decided to give Lucy’s a try because John, the gregarious fella that runs things and answers the phone, hurriedly ran through the services Sammy would receive for my $ 60.
The hurried-​ness was important to me because that told me that they are busy — a good sign. The list of services John presented was also key — everyone else just asked the breed and quoted a price (usually in the $ 60 — $ 70 range, much to my chagrin.)
John ran through the list: wash, nail trim, hair cut, ear clean, anal expression.
WHOA — anal expression??? Clueless to the anal needs of my new pet, I swiftly Googled the lovely phrase. If you don’t know what this is, trust them and DO NOT look it up on YouTube, as I did. If you do, God help you forget.
Grooming at Lucy’s is first come, first served. So, I walked Sammy to the «salon» to get in the queue. Upon arriving at Lucy’s, I was greeted by John who checked Sammy in and sent me on my way. After 2.5 hours and a couple beers at Spuyten Duyvil, Sammy was ready.
He was so transformed I didn’t recognize him. He looked great, smelled great, and seemed fully expressed.
I’m giving Lucy’s 4-​stars because I don’t have another groomer to personally compare them to — but I had a fantastic first experience and won’t need to look for another groomer any time soon.

the groomers were very affectionate with him and his hair came out even and nice. his face looks dopey because i picked out a hair-​do that didn’t quite fit his maltese/​shih-​tzu face; it made him look like a wind-​up toy, but that’s my fault though. :\
$ 54 for bath/​nails clipped/rectum!cleanse/haircut. on the pricier side, but he came out a happy dog with his little bandana.
