Little Things Toy Store

Had an odd experience here about 2 weeks ago, I’m only writing this because it is still sitting with me.
Before Christmas I had picked up a few small toys, one of them being a small wooden animal puzzle for toddlers that happened to be on sale. All the boxes of this particular puzzle were on sale, it was not an «as is» markdown or anything. I thought it was pretty cute so I got it and wrapped it up for the holidays.
Christmas morning we opened up the gifts and decided to show our little one how the puzzle fit together but the pieces inside the box were mixed up, it had duplicates of 2 animals and was missing 2, everything was still in original packaging so it was a manufacturers mistake. No big deal, we decided to see if we could go back and exchange it the day after Christmas for another one so we’d have all the right pieces.
When I brought the puzzle back to the store I explained the scenario to the woman at the register. But another lady, a manager I’m assuming, swooped in and aggressivly snatched the box from my hand. She pointed at the sale sticker on the box and said in a horrible tone, «Did no one explain to you that this was on sale?». This is where it got odd — what does a puzzle being on sale (I“m talking 4 bucks off not rock bottom pricing here) have to do with pieces being mixed up? Was I supposed to assume that a sale-​price puzzle would be defective? Is she in the business of selling incorrect puzzles? The tone very strangely accusatory and she questioned me as if I was trying to trick her somehow or like I was up to something. Very off-​putting. My husband grew up around the corner from this place and said he’s never been treated like this here in his entire life.
After finally getting her to realize that it was a manufacturer error she then proceeded to go find more of the same puzzle from the wall (they still had a bunch left and all still at the same sale price that I paid) saying that they must all be like this. I said that if that were the case anyone who had bought the puzzles would have brought it back, because a puzzle without the right pieces isn’t a keeper. She was no longer listening to me, she was just going through multiple puzzle boxes like she was on some mission to prove me wrong.
When she realized the other boxes seemed to all be correct she acted like it pained her to make the exchange for me. I asked if we could confirm all of the animal shapes were in the new box before we left and she fake checked the box — didn’t really look just glanced in and said yep. The animal pieces were in little brown bags so she wouldn’t have actually been able to tell unless she opened the little bags.
The whole thing was so odd and we felt so put-​off that we left and checked the pieces outside. If anything had been missing again I would have gone back only if I saw someone else was working. There was no apology for the inconvenience, or thanks for being a customer, nothing. Really crummy experience and I don’t appreciated being treated like I was trying to scam her out of some puzzle pieces. I want to support small businesses but this is not the way to attract customers.

I will absolutely not be returning to this store as I was racially profiled along with a friend of mine, this evening. I have been a patron since childhood and I was looking to show my friend unique items this store offers. We had spent about 15 minutes browsing when an older woman who entered the store and immediately, and quite over-​zealously asked us if we needed any help. Her true intentions were transparent. We continued to shop because we had every right to as potential paying customers. She returned to us twice within about five minutes to ask what we were looking for and actually stood about 10 feet behind us for the remainder of our time in the store. A group of white shoppers entered and headed straight to the back and this woman did not give them so much as a second glance; she continued to watch us which made it apparent that we weren’t welcome. Absolutely despicable behavior. This was blatant racism and discrimination and I will not be convinced otherwise. I was made to feel very uncomfortable. What is most disturbing is that this is a store for children and I guarantee that I am not the first person to experience this.

I love this shop! It’s easy to navigate, in a fantastic location, the staff are friendly, prices are fair, and best of all, they carry Sanrio toys and gifts. I purchased the cutest Hello Kitty purse for a stylish 3-​year-​old who will love it. It was a much more pleasant experience than trying to hustle through Chinatown and seek out some knock-​off version. As a bonus, they have complimentary gift-​wrap. Such a lovely neighbourhood gift and toy store — I’ll definitely be back.

Interesting, good selection of toys (albeit expensive)… But the salespeople are unbelievably morose and unhelpful. Whatever the opposite of «warm» is. They seem irritated when you come in the store. I always feel like I’m imposing on them by coming in. They should perk up– it’s a toy store, not a funeral parlor.

I would like to update my recent review. After my Unilocal post, the store staff reached out to me, apologized for my experience and acknowledged that the item was mispriced. They also gave me a $ 50 store credit for the next time I shop there. I was not expecting much of a response to my Unilocal post, and was pleasantly surprised by their level of customer attention and service. Based on my very positive recent experience, I would definitely give Little Things another try.

Go to place for toys in Park Slope. At any birthday party you go to in Park Slope you will see piles of presents with their signature purple wrapping paper. That’s a testimonial of how dependable they are for good gifts. There is a heavy emphasis on educational and craft toys, but they still have a decent selection of Barbies and Tonka trucks.

I just called looking for a specific toy. They knew what I was talking about and sadly didn’t have it. I really appreciate that kind of service! Saved me a trip. I shop at Little Things often and find the staff to be very helpful.
I remember the store from when I was a little kid and my mom would buy me doll furniture. I’m talking old school Park Slope — remember?

This is a wonderful small shop that brings me back to the days where the local toy store was the only place you would go for your game coveting needs. They carry a great selection of items, and unlike other stores in the Park Slope area, have the simple things that kids actually like, as opposed to the über-​designed pseudo-​intelligent toys that parents think their kids should be playing with to get them into the Ivy Leagues.
Case in point, during the recent intolerable heat wave, I wanted to get a wading pool without needing to trek to a huge store or online. Two other «toy» stores in the Slope looked at me like I had a third ear when Ii asked them for a wading pool. Little Things had several, and the one I purchased was only $ 15.

Pretty good. And, strangely, pretty much the ONLY game in Park Slope, which is packed with kids — go figure. Prices are standard (meaning, not competitive). So you will get better prices at Amazon. But this is a good local store. Kids love it. It is VERY cramped, usually very warm to hot, and things are constantly being re-​organized. Staff is fairly friendly. They are tolerant of kids who, of course, want to check things out by hand. So … solid but nothing to rave about. Still, head and shoulders over the mad houses of Manhattan.

they used to have another store for adult kids where you could always find a sweet little something, for someone, somewhere, at the last moment. briana m. broke something at the other store when she was little, so being a responsible parent i went to fess up and pay for it. i was flabbergasted when they told me to forget about it! that was the beginning of a beautiful relationship although i’m not certain i ever did train those unlucky kids to look with their eyes, not their hands!
so when i come to this store to buy something for a kid of any age, it’s usually at the last moment of course, yet i could always find that special something like the wee porcelain dolls for a song, to be wrapped in gossamer with magic wands and shiny sparkle stars, or knights in armor «action figures» for those who admire the romance of arthurian tales, or beautifully rendered animal figures of all sorts, perhaps enough to load on an ark. baby toys of all kinds and educational toys to bring out the hidden genius.
as for the employees, they have always been exceedingly patient and helpful considering some of the tantrums they are subjected to. (i’m not talking kids here)

The toys here are reasonably priced, for Park Slope. This store also offers hard to find brands and plenty of familiar toy brands, such as Mattel. I have one major complaint about this store. It is that the regular staff members, who have been working her for many years, can be surly at times. If they were more jovial and willing to be helpful, this store would be even more successful than it is. The other complaint, which is not as major, but still significant, is that this store when crowded cannot fit strollers in it. The aisles are too narrow when they are filled with people. On the upside, this store has every toy imaginable. The variety of toys is what makes me give this store 4 stars.

I usually shop most of the stuff online but I enjoy shopping experience at this store. you don’t get that in a huge retail store like toys r us.

WHY NO STARS! I want to give this place NO stars! Absolutely the worst salespeople on the avenue, i rather fight Target traffic then be afflicted or subject my children to the rudest of rude who can’t do anything but talk to each other about their weekend plans or looking at their cellphones every 5 secs. And on top of that the store always seems to be 100 degrees. For the life of me I can’t figure why they have so many salespeople in there if they aren’t going to help ring or ask if they could help locate a toy or give gift ideas.
