Specialties
Life on Mars is a gallery created by painters, for painters. We believe that painting remains a vibrant, relevant artform in the digital age.
Life on Mars would like to be a welcoming gallery for all people to enjoy and learn about painting, where there is no barrier separating artists and art lovers. Come visit us, our «office» is the gallery itself.
While we do focus on painting, we are also interested in any art that references or is associated with painting. Artists may submit work in the form of a website or other online archive link via the contact form on our website.

Meet the Manager
Michael D.
Manager
Curator and Director Michael David is, as he calls himself, a «stone-cold painter». Beginning as a punk bassist in the 70s (most notably founding the infamous Plasmatics), David went on to focus on painting, winning a Guggenheim Fellowship and Academy of Arts and Letters prize while still in his early 20s.
David is best known for using the ancient encaustic technique of painting, which mixes pigment with heated beeswax. David’s work can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum, among others, and in many private collections. David was represented by Knoedler and Co. for 25 years.
