Levels is a throwback to where Black barber shops were destinations, and not just a place to get your hair cut. The barbers are good humoured and the atmosphere is funky and testosterone fueled. While any barber in the place will do you justice, Brother 6 is a maestro, a Michaelangelo of grooming. I look at Levels as a refuge, where everybody knows your name.

If you want to get in and get out, without waiting in line behind 2 or 3 customers, make an appointment with Lionel at Levels. In 30 minutes, Lionel will have given you the freshest haircut you’ve ever gotten. He cuts as early as 6:30am, sometimes even 6am, if your an early bird. The price is right and every 9th haircut is free. If your schedule is tight and you don’t have time to wait in line for a haircut, call Levels and make an appointment with Lionel. By the way, Lionel only takes appointments to make sure the time he scheduled with you is the time you get.

4 stars because my haircut was $ 20 when compared to $ 16 at Astor Place barber shop in the city.

Like this location better than the uptown locations. The guys are very professional and respectful. Got my hair cut hair twice so far and both times I’ve been extremely pleased. I come all the way from NJ to let these guys cut my hair.

My brother was looking for a place close to home where he could get a shape up and a trim. He has big curly hair. I realize that not many guys can cut guys hair well(it’s very hard to find especially someone who can cut curly hair with scissors). My brother had an appointment with(can’t remember his name, he is lucky) and he botched my brothers hair. The shape up looks really good but he did an AWEFUL job cutting my brothers hair, his hair is uneven and now he needs to slick it back with gel until it grows back. Tip to the barbers, if you are not sure if you can cut someone’s hair please spare them the aggravation and say you can’t handle it.

I ain’t gone say that I «stepped out» on my barber bc getting a good haircut is how I feel about my job: I’m open to new opportunities. So, I had heard about this place a few times and finally decided to check it out. The shop Immediately gave me to the«new guy», and as a new walk-in customer and a woman, I’m like«Oh, here we go…» But he, Cam, executed my wishes perfectly and actually did a better job with the cut/shape than I directed. I can be anxious admittedly and he assured me that he knew where I was coming from. Did an amazing job, great cut, I felt like a million bucks and even my hating ass friends complimented me. So there’s that… Bonus points for playing SWV and Prince albums in the shop. Ill be back. Ask for Cam !

Went here for an emergency cut last year wasn’t to bad. If’ you’re in the area and need a quick cut or shape up it’s ok. If you need super sharp razor work not the place.

I’m a lady who likes to keep my hair natural, and short. Unfortunately, I have developed alopecia, which has left some pretty significant bald patches on my head. For most of the summer I took to wearing hats, but decided that maybe I should go to a barber to see if there was something they could do. I am normally VERY wary of barbers and barbershops, because most brotha’s don’t know how cut a woman’s hair – I cant tell you how many times I have walked out of a place looking like a nine year old boy! But I figured hell, I can’t look any worse, so off I went. Enter my new hair savior, Mr. Anthony Greene! This man hooked me UP! At first I was very embarrassed to have to take off my hat and show my patchy scalp – It was a full house that day in the shop, and I was the only woman there – but Mr. Greene spoke to me quietly and respectfully, as did every body in the shop. I gave him no direction except to do what he thought would look good. I figured, if I hated it, I could always have him shave it all off and go back to the hats. I really expected very little – what could anyone do with this patchy scalp? After about an hour of him carefully clipping and cutting, I walked out of that shop with the BEST haircut I have EVER gotten. I look fabulous, and I mean like, Grace Jones fierce! I have gotten stopped on the street countless times to be complemented – even had a few guys try and give me their number, which is something that NEVERHAPPENSTOME. Tee-hee-hee! Hopefully I don’t lose any more hair, because as it is, I love, love, love my haircut and hope that I will never have to change it. But even if I do, I have complete confidence that Mr. Greene and the fine men at Levels will always be able to help. So go spend your $ 20, ladies, and walk out of Levels looking fly. Like me! :-)

I’ve been going here for the last 6 months and their cuts are easily the best I’ve had. I go to DeNorval(AKA«6» — ask him about the nickname) and he really knows his stuff; he’s been doing it for nearly 20 years I think. I didn’t even realize my hair could look so fresh before going to him! I was definitely shocked/surprised how good the cut was the first time I went. I’ve also gotten a cut from Jay when 6 wasn’t around one time and he knows his stuff too, so I’d think you can’t go wrong with any of the barbers there. Great barbers, great environment, great times. Highly recommended if you need a haircut.

Not understanding why this place has such a low rating. In a nabe swollen with typical hood hair cutteries, this is my shop of choice. The barbers are skilled, but even more than that, they’re just some cool-ass brothers. My man E is generally who hooks me up but I’ve also gotten in the homie Rahkeem’s chair. I don’t know what type of sorcery these wizard stylists wield with their clippers, but every time I leave the shop I look(and feel) like an A-list celebrity. Professional, personable, and prompt. You can’t ask for anything more.
