Latika Spa

Came here for a body massage for 30 minutes. Enjoyed it a lot. Got a chair massage for 15 minutes. Also enjoyed that. Had a few manicures and pedicures here. They were good. But pricey, especially since there are other nail salons close by with better prices.
I came in today for a body massage for 30 minutes for my best friend and I. They looked like they couldn’t be bothered with working. (We were the only ones there.) They looked confused and I felt like they were trying to figure out an excuse as to why they couldn’t give us a massage. But we both got one in the end. I also came with my lite five you old cousin for a manicure. She’s five. And the manicure lasted 15 minutes tops. But still cost $ 13. Most places charge less for little kids but not this place. All well. Lesson learned.

Great local nail place– love the spa pedicure with callus remover. Pedicures always last a long time. The staff are caring and professional. I do not recommend getting a massage here.

I was meeting a friend in the area for lunch and had time before our date. I came in and they were able to help me right away… SCORE!
They helped me right away and I was treated to a lovely manicure and pedicure. When my nail tech’s next appointment arrived, she politely excused herself and had her colleague finish my nails.
My nails came out nice and if I’m in the area again, I will stop in.

It was such a great and relaxing experience! I have been busting my ass so hard in school that this was just what I needed. After such a long time of not pampering myself this was amazing! The place is under new management and I got to meet some of the girls. They were all wonderful and kind. Kim did a great job on my mani/​pedi. She was so attentive and polite. The massage was great and I loved the atmosphere. I will definitely come back soon!

Horrible. I paid for an Amazon Local deal and showed up for my appointment. I asked the girl at the desk if I could upgrade to a deluxe manicure and pay the difference. She said it was fine. My manicure started and then when I went to pay, halfway through, there was another woman (who some customers at the salon called, «Latika») who informed me that I would not be able to do this, that I had to pay in full for a deluxe manicure and pedicure, and that I could use my voucher at a later time. She was very loud and rude. I told her that I was already informed by a staff member that this would be okay, but she insisted that it was not okay. I asked her if I could see the person in charge, and she told me he was not present and that I would have to come back during the week to speak to him.
Considering that the woman I was speaking to was named, Latika, which is the name of the spa, I find it very hard to believe that she was not the person in charge. Lady, the spa’s named after you. Who do you think you’re fooling?
I had had it with this place and told her I would never come back to this awful spa. The manicure was also not that great, the color saturation was very uneven. Overall, a terrible experience.

Worst wax ever! I have been getting brazilans for years, it shouldn’t be that painful if you know what your doing. She missed patches of hair. Brazilian means everything off!

First off I got this deal on groupon. I made my appointment and it was kinda far from me but I decide to take the adventure. The wait was not bad n complememtry water was ok. The lady took me down stairs and even though it was my first time she didn’t show much care … The wax was hot, she was popping in and out the room and she did
Not finished the job fully. Very disappointed and I will never come back. Why will a paying customer wait 30 mins on a waxing table? This is not good

Not a fan. Expensive for a bikini wax with a woman who had no concept of what I asked for. Double dipping, no gloves and dimly lit rooms. There were baby toys, a play pen and walker all over the premises. My first and last time going here, to say the least.

The nail service is fine, the ladies are great and friendly.
But when the owner is there, she sort of ruins everything. She does not seem to understand the concept of an indoor voice, and when her employees don’t understand her (english not being their first language), she just talks louder and louder like its going to help.
If you are sure the owner isn’t going to be there, by all means go on in. Otherwise you might be forced to listen to her conversations about things like how much she loves her iphone but doesn’t understand how to use it.

This place is the worst. I can trim and paint my own nails but I pay to have it done for the experience of treating myself. Bleh. Don’t come here for that. I was SO rushed!!! The woman who was doing my nails was actually quite lovely. We were having a nice conversation when behind my back the owner grabs her attention. I turn so now we are both looking at the owner when she signals violently with her hands and silently screams with her lips HURRY UP. I wish I had spoken up in the moment about how incredibly rude she was. The poor woman doing my nails had suddenly turned from sweet and caring to nervous and scared. WTF? I hope this place goes under and that lovely woman who was attempting to do a good job can find a place to work where her efforts are appreciated. Not to mention it’s priced too high for even a moderately decent experience. Go anywhere else!

Got a mani/​pedi with the gf. Everything was fine. I thought it was a little weird that I was charged extra to get my nails buffed even though I paid for a manicure which, presumably, would have included polish.
Otherwise just fine.

Can I just end the review here? I won’t, because I don’t want there to be a spike in one-​word Unilocal reviews that are effectively useless to anyone else, but «feelings than end in ‘eh’» just about covers my thoughts regarding Latika Spa (see: meh, bleh).
I bought a Groupon for a spa pedicure and a regular manicure — I never get manicures because I know how to do them, but all the Groupons available included one, and the services were non-​transferrable. The spa pedicure wasn’t worth it. Anna K. has it right — it just takes longer. The massage was okay (light pressure, supposed to be relaxing, I think, but I prefer massages with purpose), though I liked the touch of using two hot stones. The scrubs were neither memorable nor particularly effective. And the callus removal that should come standard (whether you use the pumice stone or a shaver doesn’t matter, just use it correctly) was not a noticeable part of this pedicure. She scrubbed, but so lightly it was almost ticklish. The girl getting her feet done next to me was giggling nonstop, so her nail technician chuckled along with her. That was cute, but not very productive.
The manicure was lazy. Just painting of the nails and a brief application of lotion. If the nails had been painted well, I would have said, fine, at least it looks nice, but I painted my nails gray last night in under two minutes and that looks far better than what I left Latika with. Neither the toe polish nor the hand polish was applied in enough coats; both colors were see-​through when neither should have come out translucent. I would have requested another coat, but I was so tired and displeased by the rest of the work that I just wanted to go home.
My feet were freezing from the drying fan by the time I got up myself — at which point Latika somewhat condescendingly told me I shouldn’t take chances with the polish and stay seated (I had been left there for at least 15 minutes by this point) until my technician came over to check on me. When this finally did come to pass, she wrapped my toes in plastic wrap so I could put my shoes on.
I complied, but correct me if I’m wrong — if the polish was still wet, wouldn’t it have ended up on the plastic wrap anyway? I didn’t understand doing this, unless all she was trying to do was protect my new shoes. In which case, thank you.

I don’t generally like to leave bad reviews for local businesses, but this place gives me such bad vibes. The owner acts very aggressively with staff and customers, and on two occasions I observed her berating her staff in front of me and other customers. Unacceptable — and the opposite of relaxing! The quality of services (waxing + pedicures) I received here here was fine, but the experience felt creepy each time and I won’t be back.

This place is fine for manicures /​pedicures — though I think the fancier version of the pedicure is kind of a waste. I got the most expensive one the first time I went bc it was a gift card and I didn’t expect to be going back… it just takes longer, which if sitting flipping through trashy magazines and sipping a .5 oz bottle of poland spring is your thing — you might enjoy — but I just wanted to get out of there.
One thing I am definitely never again coming here for is waxing. Some people can really use a refresher course in no means no. So. much. pain.

We had some issues. If you call for an appointment and specify it’s for two people, the shop shouldn’t say that’s fine if they don’t have two employees for the job; we were at Latika for almost TWO HOURS just for mani-​pedis, and we never would have gone had we known this. I was only getting this done for my brother’s wedding, so I wanted it done, but… yuck.
My friend had her foot soak/​scrub completely done before my feet were dealt with — same employee. I asked for my cuticles not to be clipped, but the woman did it anyway. The friend was led off to start her manicure and a different woman painted my toes. She led me to the manicure area, at which point her shoe clipped my toenails and wrecked the polish on two of them. I pointed it out and asked her to fix it. I think there was a definite language barrier, which is no one’s fault, but the woman seemed irked that I wanted the polish fixed and I had to repeatedly ask that it be dealt with before my fingernails. The woman put one stripe on my big toe to cover the unpainted area, and when all the other nails had had two coats of polish, the one coat on half my nail looked really sloppy. I had to ask many times again to have it fixed. The woman doing my friend’s manicure got up after a bit and disappeared… for at least ten minutes, without explanation. The friend asked the woman who was doing my nails what happened, and she went to check. The MIA employee returned, then explained she’d left because a big spender came in and needed services. Um… we were there first and that’s really what ought to count.
I had my cuticles pushed back, not clipped, but the woman clipped off what was sticking up, which is ok. It hurt, though, and I ended up bleeding slightly, which I would think would be from carelessness? I had my nails polished and realized later that there was a bubble on one nail; the polish also didn’t reach all the way to the sides of my nails, but maybe that was done on purpose to create a more uniform nail shape? We sat with our hands and feet under dryers for a while, and headed out, my friend freaked about time. She has one more Groupon to go, and after that, she’s not returning. Should I need nail services next time I’m in NY, it won’t be here.

I bought a groupon for 3 mani-​pedis and only used 2 pedicures and 1 manicure because I was so disappointed with the place and terrified they would make my hands/​feet worse than went I went in.
Issues:
1. The loud, omnipresent owner who alternated between complaining about her life, and interrogating her staff and customers loudly. I tried to communicate an issue to the person giving me a pedicure and the owner came over and started loudly interrogating us about the situation instead of quietly trying to resolve the situation.
2. The staff. They have no idea what they are doing and I had a big problem communicating issues with the manicure and pedicure. My first manicure + pedicure took almost 2 hrs because nobody had a clue what they were doing. I literally filed my own toenails and was getting stabbed by the cuticle cutters. The second time, I left without a manicure because it just wasn’t worth the time. I will not be returning for the third.

I got a manicure, pedicure, and eyebrow wax.
My eyebrows were noticeably crooked. My pedicure was nice, but average. I had requested just a color change on my hand but got a manicure, I don’t think the lady quite understood.
The owner, Latika, seemed unfriendly. The lady who did my services was very nice though.

Despite the negative I decided to give this place a try because of it’s convenient location. The spa is cute, clean and comfortable. The staff was exceptionally friendly– the receptionist offered me a selection of beverages and was knowledgeable as I asked her about offered treatments. Ethiopia preformed my deep cleansing facial and it was fantastic. I was so relaxed by the end I decided to go a head and tack on a 30 minute massage.
I’ll definitely be back here for a mani/​pedi at some point in the near future.

I rarely post reviews on Unilocal,but I was really pleased with my experience here. I made an appointment same day for Mani/​Pedi, 30 minute massage and an eyebrow wax on a Sunday evening. The entire time I felt like the owner and the employees treated me so nicely.
They sat me right down for the pedicure, offered me green tea, kept checking on me to see if I needed anything, etc. The manicure/​pedicure by the same younger girl was amazing. It’s honestly the best I have ever had. She took her time and made sure everything was perfect. They even put rose petals in the soaking bowl for your hands. And at every turn they are massaging something: your hands, your feet, your neck while your nails are drying.
The Swedish massage was great as well and the lady took extra time (past the 30 minutes) to put hot lotion and hot towels on my bruises on my legs (I work in Visuals and had been in a window for 90 hours the week past.) and rubbed my feet while waiting for the towels to cool down/​take affect.
I will be back again every other week especially since it was only $ 100 (w/​o tip) for everything and it’s a great small business to support.

I saw the $ 15 mani/​pedi Groupon they were offering and decided to try it out! Despite reading some less than glorifying reviews about the place. I had free time on a Monday morning so I called to see if they had any appointments available for that day and the lady on the phone just kept asking me if I had a Groupon and when I said yes, she just goes ooohhhhh ummmmm… as if she was upset that I had a Groupon. Then she goes well, can you be here in 10 min? I kind of laughed and said well, I live about 10 min. away but I can hurry, so how about 15? Then she goes ohhhhhhh again and sat silent for a few seconds and then said, ok 10 minutes! haha I just said ok ok I’ll be there as soon as I can. The best part of this was that when arrived there (in 15 min.) I was THE ONLY ONE IN THE PLACE AND PROCEEDED TO BE THE ONLY ONE THE ENTIRE TIME I WAS THERE! HAHAHAHA
The lady doing my pedicure had obviously never done one before and the lady (who I am assuming is the owner) kept coming over and telling her how to do it. The only really negative thing is that they didn’t use one of those razor things to get the dead skin off your feet but instead used a pumice stone device much like the one I bought at RiteAid for a $ 1.
The manicure was very good and I think that was more of her area of expertise! ha!
Overall I think that they are just overwhelmed with the response to their Groupon ad. but when you put up an ad for only $ 15 come on, what do you expect? I say if you get a Groupon or coupon totally go to this place but I don’t know if I would pay full price.
