Junk-A-Car

One of the worst experiences I’ve ever had working with a company.
Everything started out fine. My fiancé called to have his totaled 2008 Mercedes C300 picked up. They asked him a few basic questions like where the damage was (the front end was totally smashed in) and if the airbags deployed (yes). They offered him $ 2500 for the totaled car – great! The driver came to my uncle’s mechanic shop, took the car and the title, and gave my fiancé a check for $ 2,500 as promised.
It looked like it was an awesomely smooth process, but then everything went horribly wrong.
After the check cleared and the funds were showing in the the bank account, Junk A Car cancelled the check without even calling us. This caused extreme frustration – especially when it was right at the beginning of the month when rent and other bills were due! We called Junk A Car, and they offered no apology what so ever and tried to blame my fiancé about lying about the condition of the car, which he certainly did not. They said they our car was currently on a tow truck on its way to our address, which they would have known wasn’t an option if anyone bothered to call us because we live in an apartment on a main street with no parking. What was their plan, to just leave it in the middle of the road?
After that, things continued to get worse. They dropped the car back at my uncle’s shop, BUT THEY DIDN’T RETURN THE TITLE! What can we do with a car with no title? My fiancé called to try to speak with someone to get the title back, but they said the manager wasn’t available to talk and he would get back to him «sometime next week.» At this point we have a useless piece of metal without the title to try to dispose of it through a more reputable company.
I would have had no qualms with the company of they had just rejected the car when they came to pick it up, but instead we’re out the money and out a car.
We were essentially robbed by this company. I would strongly encourage anyone else looking to get rid of a junked car to call literally any other company. I hope this review serves to save someone else the headache were still enduring.

Rude customer service, loud background noise, you can’t even hear what they are saying over the phone. If you ask them to repeat what they say or go to a quicker area so you can hear them they just disconnect you.

My old hoopty finally died, and I called a lot of junk-​your-​car hotlines but kept getting very low offers or «I’ll have a representative return your call» etc. Junk-​A-​Car was much quicker and straight to the point. They upped their offer to beat another competitor, everyone was super friendly and easy to communicate with, and the pickup/​paperwork was hassle-​free. I recommend these guys highly.

Awesome company to deal with. Fast and professional. Gave us a great price right off the bat. Beat 3 other local salvage companies by $ 500.00.
Great communication. We are outside NY State. They located and sent a local tow company. Very professional. Called us twice ahead of time to give us an ETA. Took car – no muss, no fuss. Sweet and neat.

My wife’s ’94 Saturn had a failing clutch and possibly a bad alternator, which would have cost more to fix than we could have sold the car for. I thought I would have to pay to have it junked, but I found junk-​a-​car on google and gave them a call. They came to pick it up the next day and gave us cash. The tow truck guy was friendly, got there when he said he would, found a couple important things we hadn’t spotted when we cleaned out our stuff the night before (EZPass and GPS mount), and removed the license plates for us. The amount we got for the car was slightly less than the quoted price, but I wasn’t surprised because the pre-​quote interview was not extensive enough to cover the shocking array of problems that the car had, and we may have had a miscommunication about whether the car had mag wheels. In the end I was happy with the price, happy with the speed, and happy with the customer service. Even if your car is driveable, I would recommend giving these guys a shout before you go through the hassle of selling it privately.
