I love this place more than my younger brother loved the sound of the ice cream truck when he was a chubby grade schooler. I’m pretty sure they have an Oz (as King of all things Indie) who hides behind the control room curtain and controls the «three-​a-​day» awesome Indie showings. This place is my secret haven that I usually attend alone avoiding whereabouts questioning from all (out of mainstream fear), but I felt inclined to put my ego aside and show some love and support to my one & only… please don’t ever go out of business!!!

I bought a LivingSocial deal for Indiescreen «for any movie» before I realized that they only show one movie here at a time. I didn’t realize this until a few weeks before the deal expired, but luckily they were playing something I was interesting in seeing (The Broken Circle Breakdown, nominated for a 2014 Oscar for best foreign film; it was really good — go see it!).
Upon entering, you see a large space with an upstairs and a bar to one side. We ordered a beer to take in (they had some good stuff on tap), but no food, because they don’t have it. You’re also not allowed to bring any food into the theater. That’s right, no food at a movie theater. I was starving and was expecting to be able to buy something to eat or to at least bring food in, because that is a part of the movie-​going experience. This is a terrible policy.
The theater was nice but kind of cold. Instead of cup holders, the seats had little folding desktops, which I didn’t understand. The desks make it difficult to get up to go to the bathroom. Why not just have cup holders? The screen was small, but there were three other people in the room so we were able to sit as close as we wanted. The room was pretty cold. The bathrooms were also FREEZING and there was no hot water. Also, the sound kept cutting out during the movie. It happened probably 10 times, although only for a few seconds each time.
This must sounds like a pretty negative review by now, but really, I appreciate any movie theater that offers something that isn’t available anywhere else in the area. At the time, the movie I saw wasn’t being shown anywhere else in New York. I also got to check out a new area of Williamsburg that I’d never explored before. Really, the move indie theaters in town, the better, and if they keep showing interesting stuff I’d come back. Just let us eat food during the movie!

Been here for a couple of unrelated electronic music parties (I Feel). Very cool space. The theater is an interesting touch during a party like that. I definitely plan to come during a «normal» evening.

Ok so maybe I am hipster but I love places like this. I like things that are not super popular that are still true to art! This place fits the bil. It is a nice space to watch indie flicks without a mob of people. I would have given it 5 stars but they don’t have a concession stand. (talk about hipster… way too cool for popcorn? never) It is a big space that serves drinks (ok that makes up for the popcorn, but they are a little expensive) The décor is beautiful and one of a kind. Plus, you can rent this space out if you’re into film screenings and what not. Just fill up on food before you get here.

Indie Screen’s theater is not only a cozy, clean, comfortable space to watch REAL Indie films, but it’s also a bar and a place to grab a drink before or after your film (or during!). The service is top notch, the theater is beautiful and is just the right size to enjoy indie films. The décor of the bar area is absolutely beautiful, if a bit 80’s (which I love). The lights are original, totally cool and are from Italy, where the owner is from. Take a moment to look at them, I’m sure you will agree.
Overall, I highly recommend this space for a movie night, a night out with friends for a drink, to rent if you’re a filmmaker for your big première, or to do a shoot/​video. The space is unique and just what Williamsburg needs.

I dont know if we would see a movie here again. We came for the «Art of Killing». It was an interesting movie. If I didn’t realize it was an indie/​documentary and my boyfriend wasn’t so into it, we probably would of walked out. The space is beautiful, but its so big and half the space is unused. The theater screen itself is so small and out of place, Its like it was really meant to be in someone’s home in the Beverly Hills. There is no food or candy or POPCORN. How can you operate such a place without these important things? The operator told me they don’t offer it because people make a mess? HELLOOOOOOOO isn’t that part of operating ANYTHING? Hire someone to clean up after each show?
I prefer going to Nitehawk. I think I will stick with that theater in Williamsburg.

Interesting place to see a movie.
This theatre is tucked away near the water off the Bedford L stop. They show 1 movie per night — I was there for the première of Breakup At A Wedding (watch it, it’s amazing). Half the space is a huge high-​ceilinged, blue-​lit bar/​lounge area, and the other half is a 1 small theatre room. Great movie experience, especially because the crowd is small and dedicated.
No food or candy concessions, so fill up on beer and a good movie.

Came here twice during the Brooklyn Film Festival and I was really amazed by this place. It is like a hidden gem that long walk from Bedford Ave L train was more than worth it. I saw Emmanuel and the Fishes and Giraffes both were full length films and pretty great. I am glad that I found out about this place as I will be making it a point to come back here again. Plus they have a bar which is a great concept since there are no children in attendance might have to take a stop there when I go back.

This is a pretty weird space. It’s half movie theater and half lounge/​bar. A little off the beaten path on Kent but easy to walk to from the main drag with the plus side of the ability to find parking quickly. Looks like they spent some decent dime to renovate the building however I wish they did a better job with the theater instead of clearly focusing their financial efforts on the lounge area.

My friend premiered his feature length film here. It’s a very nice place.
And despite it having only one screen, it’s an awesome place to see a film or have one shown.
They also have a bar with drinks that aren’t overpriced like popcorn is at AMC. It’s the same price you’d find it anywhere.

Very cool space. Intimate theater — like you were watching in your own private screening room. Clean. Met the owner & she’s super nice as well. Saw a documentary here & would absolutely go back.

This former nightclub makes good. Huge bar area, intimate screening rooms. Showing cutting edge new films. A little far from transit but worth the hike.

Weird little place to see a movie.
It looks like they sacrificed a great space to accommodate a douchey lounge/​bar and then squished a tiny theater in. I mean, it’s a nice idea that you can get a drink and bring it into the theater, but does the bar have to be lit in blue neon like a 90’s sushi restaurant?
The whole place is very dark, even the lobby and bathrooms. I went into the restroom and its almost completely dark with these weird spotlights above the toilets that are too low to illuminate the stall and just backlight you while you piss… An older gentleman actually walked in while I was washing my hands because it was too dark to make out the «lady» symbol on the door.
Ambience aside, while I was watching the movie the sound cut out for about a second every fifteen minutes. It was so distracting and often cut out a word or two of dialogue.
Meh, find somewhere else to watch indie flicks.

I came to here for the opening of a friend of mine’s film.
From the outside indieScreen looks like it would be a very unassuming place. You walk in through a nice lobby and then down into a dimly lit bar/​lounge area with high vaulted ceilings. Its a really nice open and modern space.
The bar was well stocked, though I felt the prices for drinks were $ 1 or $ 2 more than they should be. Beers were $ 6-​$ 7 depending on what you got and came in the form of bottle or plastic cup filled with draft beer.
The theater is a decent size for how big this place looks on the outside. There are about 9 – 10 rows with 7 seats each (4 on one side 3 on the other split by an isle). The chairs were more comfortable with more leg room than some movie theaters that I have been to. Also drinks from the bar are allowed in the theater.
All in all this is a really nice place to come and view a film.

I went here for Return to Start’s NYC movie première. indieScreen is the perfect venue for indie films. It’s located across the street from the old Domino Sugar factory. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but inside it’s open, modern, and industrial.
The bar/​lounge area is large and has a good selection of libations. The bathroom was modernly decorated and clean. The deejay booth is located up a small flight of stairs, nice view of the crowds. You can bring your drink into the theater which is awesome! The theater is small, but has comfortable seating and great sound quality. They don’t serve food there (bummer) so make sure you get your grub on before catching a flick or visiting the bar.
indieScreen has a lot of film festivals during the year, just check out their website for more information about showings. Definitely a cool spot in Brooklyn and a good place to have an event.

IndieScreen is a nice, clean, converted warehouse space to see an indie movie. It has a clubby bar/​lounge in front with high ceilings and a small screening room in the back. We went on a Thursday night to see Melies’ Le Voyage Dans La Lune (with Air’s soundtrack) and then a doc about the film. The place was absolutely dead, with only 7 of us in the theater. For me, the bonus was that you could bring your drink from the bar into the actual theater.
Vincent: You know what the funniest thing about Europe is?
Jules: What?
Vincent: It’s the little differences. I mean, they got the same shit over there that we got here, but it’s just… it’s just, there it’s a little different.
Jules: Example?
Vincent: All right. Well, you can walk into a movie theater in Amsterdam and buy a beer. And I don’t mean just like in no paper cup; I’m talking about a glass of beer.

This place has some amazing potential. The interior of the building is absolutely gorgeous, and the screening room itself, while small, is excellent. They show some great films there (we went to see Hood to Coast).
That said, despite the awesome movie experience, I can’t give indieScreen five stars, or even four.
We bought our tickets for the 8PM showing of Hood to Coast and showed up around 7:15. Yes, we were early, but we weren’t THAT early. Besides, I had heard that the place had a lounge and restaurant. The last review I had seen was from April, so I assumed surely by now they’d have the lounge complete. Well, the place was completely locked up. We were really confused, because we didn’t think we were there that early, and we’d received no word of a cancellation. As time went on, more and more confused looking people gathered around — all trying to figure out why the place was all closed up.
Finally, around 7:30, a fancy car pulls up, and a confused looking woman jumps out and asks us if we’re here for the show. We all say yes, and she informs us they’ll be opening shortly. So we waited about five more minutes and they finally open up.
We showed them our online ticket purchase, and after they finally found us, they checked us off and gave us little «Admit One» paper tickets (which no one ever collected from us). We asked about the lounge, which we were informed was still not open yet. They said they were fairly new and rented out to a lot of movie producers for screenings. But still, there’s a review from September 2010 where they say the lounge/​restaurant isn’t open yet. What gives, guys? No concessions either, which was kind of weird. Maybe they had them hidden somewhere, but none of the people in the screening room knew where they were.
All in all, while the viewing itself was great, and the venue is gorgeous, they need to get their act together.

I’d agree with the first review that the theater was unreasonably warm for about 20 minutes of the film that I saw — Marwencol (AWESOME) — but the temperature leveled out after a little bit.
You’ll enter and see a dark, large industrial space with some nice artistic touches. The theater itself was clean, nice seats, and featured a crisp digital screen. I can’t wait to go back. Hopefully the bar/​restaurant will be up and running — I will update this review accordingly.

Short story: Indie movie theater, bar, and restaurant combo.
Long story: Saw a movie here last night… their theater is smallish and cozy with stadium-​style seating. Each seat has a desk that swings up and over your seat, college-​auditorium style… perhaps in place of the missing cup holders.
Next to the theater there’s a huge bar-​restaurant area that is not yet functioning, but looks like it’ll be quite kick-​ass. You can see the kitchen through a glass wall in the back.
Though it’s an indie movie house, the décor (refreshingly) doesn’t subscribe to any usual indie aesthetic… no shabby-​chic vintage, no log-​cabin rustic, no kitsch. The space is sleek and shiny, with some futuristic features, like several crazy robotic-​looking busts that serve as lighting fixtures.
Looks like they have a good line-​up of films for September. I’ll probably be back soon!
