If you order from home delivery they will probably screw it up and your credit card will be charged anyway. Twice for me.
Be prepared to spend hours on the phone with Ikea and XPO Logistics with each company blaming the other. Be prepared to have your credit card charged for items you did not receive and delivery that never happened.
How about this … I received two mattresses when I only ordered one. I spent 30 minutes on the phone with Ikea only for them to tell me call the trucking company. The trucking company says Ikea screwed it up. Finally I get Ikea to reverse the charges for the mattress and truck to pick up the mattress. The next month a shipping charge appears on my credit card to return the mattress I never ordered in the first place.
I love their furniture but it’s like dealing with the post office. The important take away is that no one in this Brooklyn store cares. From the top down no one cares whether you shop there or not.

Ordered bookcases from IKEA and prepaid delivery and assembly. Ikea billed my credit card that day.
Two weeks later I am still waiting for delivery. I was told that items would be delivered between 10 – 2 on Saturday. At 2:30 I called and was told the items were not put on the truck. No call from Ikea or trucking company. No apology. Hours on hold listening to recorded messages. Finally put through to national customer service. Silly me. I thought the problem would be resolved. Got a lovely reference number, but still can’t reach a real live person regarding my problem in San Diego.
I gave one star as it’s the lowest rating allowed. My feeling is that the rating should be negative. They have no respect for customers. Their phone system is a nightmare. Expect to be on hold for at least 20 minutes before you are even allowed to enter an option regarding you inquiry.
I’ll hold judgment on the actual furniture. It doesn’t help that customer service suggested that I inspect everything for damage before I sign off on the installation. I guess they expect complaints. An interesting way to do business

I ordered a large storage unit (
) three weeks ago and had the shipping/​assembly set for a certain date as it was the only day I’d be home to receive the unit and let the workers into my apartment. They gave me a delivery window of 9:00am — 3:00pm … I didn’t receive it until 7:00pm!
THEN: the guys who dropped it off told me that they don’t do the assembly — the company sends ANOTHER truck out with guys who know how to do it. 1. I was never told about this when I placed my order and 2. That makes no sense.
I call IKEA’s customer service number… the infamous 888 – 888 number, and after waiting for 30+ minutes, the guy tells me to call XPO Logistics to figure it out. So I call XPO and after waiting 20+ minutes there, they tell me that the person at IKEA who entered my order did it incorrectly and even though they accepted my payment for the assembly, they NEVER INCLUDED IT AS PART OF MY ORDER. He told me to call IKEA back to set up a new date for assembly. I’ve currently been on hold with IKEA again for 20+ minutes with no end in sight.
Absolutely awful overall experience and it hasn’t even ended yet…

I’d change this review to 0 stars if I could. After waiting on hold for an hour for the «resolutions team» I get connected to someone who tells me that even though the employee at IKEA entered the assembly portion into my order, they didn’t include it in my charges, therefore, I have to go back to the store and pay in-​person for this. He tells me that they don’t take payments over the phone or online, and it can only be done in-​person, and will cost $ 160 for the assembly. This is without a doubt the WORST service I have ever had and is NOT worth the price. Next time I need something, I’ll pay the extra money for the furniture and skip having to deal with this nonsense. I’ve now spent 12 hours combined waiting for the delivery and on hold, just to have someone essentially say «yeah, we messed up, too bad.» STAY AWAY!

First of all, I have to say I absolute love IKEA’s stuff. However, I also have to give the Brooklyn store one star based on my 2 visits (I would give 0 star if Unilocal allows).
The first visit was 2 years ago — it was completely a nightmare. The staff didn’t know how things worked in the store and different people gave me contradicting answers to my questions. The checkout line took forever and one staff told me to start over from the end of the line after another staff told me I could keep my spot and grab the additional things I needed. I threw away my IKEA membership card right after I left the store.
The second visit is today. Nothing’s changed. I feel the employees here are just very exhausted and unhappy. It’s a shame that the only store in New York City offers such horrible customer service. I would probably come back here sometime in the future but it’s just because I have to.

No matter how small or large house/​apartment that you live in, Ikea has something for any space or budget.
Come one and you will be hooked for life

Took a day off waiting for delivery. Initial time slot 12−4…it’s now 6:15 and I’m still waiting!
Keep in mind you pay for xpo logistics to deliver (more than $ 100).

Pros:

— generous (90 day) return policy
— nice displays
— $ 99 flat rate delivery into Manhattan. An amazing deal. Logistics company they outsource too is professional and competent.
These «pros» are the pros of any Ikea branch.
The cons, however, are purely for the Brooklyn branch, which is the worst managed Ikea I’ve ever been to (that’s about 15 different ones all across the country, starting with the very first one in the US at the Plymouth Meeting Mall in Philly, back in 1985).
Cons:
— Simply impossible to reach them by phone on the 888 – 888 number. Nobody answers. I’ve been on hold for 30 minutes, then hung up on. Then 40 minutes, and hung up on. Then 60 minutes, and I had to hang up. Basically, you have to go in to the store to deal with any issue. And yet, everyone in the store just says «call the 888 number» — like it’s actually a thing. When someone in that store says «just call the 888 number» I want to scream at them that there is NO SUCH THING, ITS ALL A BIG LIE!
— There is NEVER enough staff EVER. Even the poor ice cream and hot dog people have to face gigantic lines, so say nothing of returns/​exchanges — never do that on a weekend. As a result, all the staff are cranky because all the customers are cranky. I remember my first experience here about 3 years ago, waiting in the «customer pickup» area, for hours. The crowd was huge and overflowing. The guys behind the counter were completely clueless and obviously had almost zero training. There wasn’t a manager in sight. There was no line or «first come first served» notion — just chaos, like an Indian train station. A riot almost broke out multiple times. Little did I know, this little vignette was not an outlier, but pretty representative of your average Ikea Brooklyn experience.
— The staff has an amazing talent for mumbling while they avoid looking at you. I thought I was going deaf in that store, until I got some voice mail messages from them which were absolutely unintelligible. Could I call back and get a translation? Call back? Call the 888 number? HA, FOOLED YA, THAT’S JUST A FAKE NUMBER.
— Generally the store is more dirty and disorganized than any other Ikea I’ve been to. It’s a management problem. Basically the management at this store is freakishly incompetent, and needs to be completely swapped out.
Net: if you go on a weekday, you don’t have to return anything, and you never have to deal with customer service in any form, then you’ll be OK. Otherwise, have VERY low expectations.

If you are someone that knows me personally, you have probably heard me say «I hate IKEA» every single time someone mentions the place. Before even walking in to the store, you’re going to probably want to hit someone or something with your car since the parking here is always insane. Don’t even bother coming as soon as they open because the parking lot is already packed.
Why are you rolling your eyes? Ohhh, I know. You’re wondering why I’m hating on IKEA when I’ve been coming here every weekend, sometimes twice in one weekend to spend every penny I have? Let me explain.
Even though I do hate the mazes, the lines, the bright lights, the sweet hypnotizing smells and the fact that I always have a migraine when I leave here, I do love IKEA’s prices, the many choices and the location of this place.
So you caught me! Yes, my entire apartment is covered in the IKEA label and yes I’m in the process of spending thousands of dollars on a brand spanking new IKEA kitchen, and yes, I will continue to hand IKEA my money by the bucketload. I’m just not ready to admit that IKEA and I have taken our relationship to the next level. So judge me as you wish. I’m ok with it.

Good Ikea store, it’s big and displays are nice. For pick ups. Get what you like, write down the model number and pick it up at the warehouse downstairs.
Even tho with 10+ registers open the line to cash out is about a 20 minute wait…

It was back in 2010 when we came to IKEA to gather everything we needed to fill and empty house and we had achieved it for about $ 1500 and next day delivery was $ 90, was really a smooth experience. Yesterday was the second visit within 6 years :) We came by car, found parking in 5 minutes even though it was Sunday. Once you enter, you’ll see the computers to enroll for the ’ Ikea Family Card ‘. Please do. They have good deals, 20% off on selected items etc. If you forget to do so, no worries, they also have computers before you check out.
We bought racks, a new cover for our sofa, some hangers. This rack for $ 12.99 is so good:

Check out was fast, satisfied with the overall experience. Not the best location for public transportation but as far as know they have shuttles to R train.

I can never come in here for just ONE THING. But trekking from upper west side, I try to leave with a good loot. This is like every single cookie cutter IKEA from around the world, but something about seeing that blue and yellow sign gives me life.
This place is great for finding goods for your home for the low low and I’ll never deny myself from IKEA. Or the meatballs.

If you haven’t been to an IKEA Store it is an experience. I had several tasks today for a friend and relatives. While I took care of that I looked around, took some photos. The place is huge! High ceilings. There’s everything you would ever need for your home.
They have lots of check out lines. You still need to wait. This place is always busy. My issue was with returns and exchanges. We also needed a missing part. In other IKEA Stores they have nuts and bolts and other pieces where you can get them and go. At this location you take a number and wait. And then you wait, and wait, and wait some more! Mean while people with returns and exchanges have a different numbering system and they are called first. We waited as about 20 people were called and no one that just needed a missing piece was called. Our problem in addition, we had both return/​exchange and needed a missing bolt. They don’t have a number for that! Finally we were called. Onnicka took care of the exchange for the correct item. She also got the missing bolt we needed. She was really efficient. I could tell how hard she worked and knew it was a hectic job! But after being taken care of so efficiently by her that wasn’t the end.
Next you wait for the new item to be brought up. They have a screen where you wait for your number to come up. It was just a couple of parts for a cabinet. Small plastic bag! We had to wait at the furniture pick up with everyone else. All the other numbers came. Finally my daughter went up and asked why everyone else was getting their orders and ours wasn’t coming. The employee looked by the computer and there was the little plastic bag of parts. There so busy with the furniture it just sat there. Meanwhile we spent an hour and a half waiting in total. They need a better system. They should have one numbering system and take people in order!
I rarely go to IKEA. I enjoyed the day because I was with my family. It’s always an experience.
I learned a lesson to pass on to you. Take the number for returns and exchanges. If you get in the wrong numbering system. You’ll wait forever.

Whoa, one of the more ‘hood IKEAs I’ve been to. I know they try to find locations in under served communities like this in Brooklyn and my home store of Emeryville and East Palo Alto in California, but this one has a while to go before even getting close.
Inside everything is the same though and the parking here is ample. Get what you need and get out. I didn’t try the food, but then again was just eager to get out. Plus shipping is pretty cheap and convenient rather than hauling things in a car back to Manhattan.
So do that, but swing by if you must. It’s what you expect, but a little more underdeveloped than I expected.

It deserves stars for just being Ikea. The workers are like any other place. There are some good ones and some bad ones. Its a hit or a miss. This time, I guess we’ve encountered a bad one at the cashier. He wasn’t paying attention to us at all. As he was scanning items, his head seemed to be in the clouds while trying to multi-​task. We said repeatedly that the next item is not ours. But of course, he still scans it. Then after he scans it, we tell him we are not paying for that item because it’s not ours, he looks at us with a very displeased face and fixes it reluctantly.
Why is he the one that is displeased? It is not like we didn’t tell him first. We told him at least 5 times before he scanned it but apparently he was too distracted to pay any attention to his customers.

Who doesn’t love ikea?! For once I don’t have to go to Jersey to get my ikea fix and keep it in the boro’s.
Most ikeas are all the same as far as product and inventory and this place is no different. I think its clean and I like how the parking lot is covered and below the actual ikea with huge elevators that bring you to the lower parking level.
This is my new favorite ikea.

Best days to go are the weekdays.

I’ve only been here twice, once with a friend when I had recently moved to NYC and was checking out Red Hook, and again yesterday, with my boyfriend, after a delicious BBQ lunch at Hometown BBQ. (Highly recommended!)
I don’t know why this IKEA has such bad reviews. Yes, it’s crowded and you’ll have to wait in line to check out. The marketplace sections are especially crowded, because this is where people are actually picking out their items to buy and making decisions. It’s annoying to maneuver your shopping cart around there. However, this is IKEA and you’re in NYC. It’s to be expected. You should also bring your own bags (or buy their big yellow ones), and be prepared to bag your own items. Our cashier wasn’t the friendliest, but she was also trying to move quickly as the line built up behind us.
I think the selection here is great. The room models are so fun to look at and explore. There are even items for purchase inside drawers and cabinets and such. Everything is so meticulously placed and detailed. I think it’s well organized for the amount of things that are there. The signage is big and easy to follow. They even have little pamphlets where you can write down which items you want and where to find them in the marketplace section. They also have pencils and tape measures for measuring items!
As for the quality of their items, I really don’t think they’re that bad. They’re minimal, functional, and designed well. Their prices are also quite low. People should treat their furniture and belongings with respect, and I think a lot of people who have bad experiences with IKEA furniture don’t tend to do that.

There is nothing more exciting then assembling that piece of Ikea furniture and realizing that you got it all correct even though the instructions does not contain a single word!!! (and you didn’t lose any of these tiny screws)
Now as far as Ikea goes, It’s a HUUUUUUGE store that sells dirt cheap furniture that you have to go pick yourself out of the ware house and then wait a ½ hour in line with a bunch of diverse strangers…
As for the return department, it could be at times crrrraaaaazzzzzyyyy, but I’ve been there at times where the process was swift and smooth.
Parking is always a breeze and I love roaming there squishy doll/​puppet area, kids love it.

I’ve already been to this specific IKEA since I’ve moved to the city not too long ago, and I found that the entire experience is really what you make of it.
Now of course, we don’t come to Ikea for the service. We also don’t come for the atmosphere. We come for the prices. And sometimes for the meatballs. It’s also strangely convenient to get here from Manhattan by water taxi or taking a subway to Brooklyn then taking their speedy complimentary shuttle, which are so important for those like me who don’t have a car in NYC.
So knowing that, why only 3 stars? Because while I love my cheaply made Swedish furniture, this place was (for lack of better word) a mess. More specifically, I had seen an amazing shoe rack in the showroom and the tag said it would be in the Marketplace. Got to the marketplace and went to the specific area, this rack was nowhere to be found. Not only so, no employees were to be found either. I’m not about to cry over this $ 5 collapsible shoe rack that I didn’t get to buy, but I’m also not very pleased that no one was able to help.
Maybe next time will be a luckier experience, but for now I’ll just sulk in my Swedish mystery meatballs and lingonberry sauce.

I think I decided to come here on the wrong day because it was WAY too crowded.
People were EVERYWHERE. Saturday’s are not the day to come here .
The store itself was very clean and organized. I love the room displays they put together. The designers are very talented. This is a great place to come for inspiration. The bathrooms are gross though .
The pricing is pretty good too. They have great quality things for reasonable prices.
They have large carts and large elevators.
The checkout lines are crazy. But to gear you away from how long the lines are, they have a huge food court ! And the food is afforable. 79 cent hot dogs. $ 1.25 pizza slices and lots of other selections. A lot of organic selections also.
