Specialties
Our Chittara Pesto (V) a family recipe from the chef’s uncle, he would not eat his pasta so his mother would put french-fries on top to get him to eat, we make ours with pesto so you also get your veg — a great vegetarian option. The cocktails at Hugo focus on classic + modern seasonal ingredients made with the highest quality spirits and liquors. The music you’ll hear at Hugo is a mix classical, Ella Fitzgerald, Paolo Conti, the Rolling Stones or UB40 depending on the time of day you visit. Desserts include a gluten free flourless chocolate cake and a classic strawberry shortcake all large enough to share. Hugo is child friendly providing original coloring pages and individual crayola packs for the little ones. There is «stroller parking» available on 11th street along the side of the restaurant and outside the pizzeria. Hugo Pizzeria is another option a bit more casual to grab a pizza and a drink and take in the beautiful herb gardens outside. It’s great place to people watch. If noise is an issue the outdoor seating at the restaurant or the pizzeria are great options with the beautiful herb border creating a cozy and inviting area to sit back and enjoy the food and the view.
History
Established in 2015.
Hugo & Sons is set in a landmark building formerly home to a 1940’s neighborhood butcher shop. In wanting to keep with the history of the space we’ve kept many of the original details such as exposed brick and tilework, carriage house doors, and the original store front signage. With cozy booths and big open windows, Hugo & Sons is your neighborhood place for a quick bite with friends or a big family dinner, in a beautiful relaxed setting.
Well known artist LEO BATES owned the building prior to Hugo’s opening and stored his painting in the storefront. NY Times published an article about Leo Bates and the storefront which Hugo now occupies
