Our selection of wines comes from farms that are predominately hand harvested, small production, and practice green sustainable farming.

Whether our guests are buying, tasting, or enjoying their wine, offering a wonderful experience is our main goal and one of the driving missions at Grapepoint Wines. We are also dedicated to helping those discover their palates by taking adventures into the unknown by trying new delicious wines from different regions and grape varietals. Meet the Business Owner

Joanna Z.

Business Owner

Owner of Grapepoint Wines and a native of Greenpoint, Joanna doesn’t strike you as your typical wine aficionado. As a first generation Polish-​American with a BS in Business Management and Economics from the Smeal Business School at Penn State, Joanna was on her way down a very different career path. While traveling in Spain and Portugal in the summer of 2011, her passion for wine asserted itself in a very «New York» kind of way.

Joanna is always on the hunt for the very best. She strives to offer a large selection of wines from different countries, diverse grape varietals and, of course, exceptional quality. You will find small tasting notes indicating region, price and description with each bottle written by Joanna herself.

I happened to be in the neighborhood headed to a friend’s and needed a nice bottle of vino. I stumbled across this great wine shop and will be sure to come back the next time I am in the area. I was fortunate enough to meet the owner, Joanna, who is incredibly nice and helpful. She is very knowledgeable about wine and was able to point me in the right direction based on the parameters I provided her about what I wanted. She has a vast selection of wines from around the world as well as different price points. She hosts free wine tastings on Friday nights which is always a fun way to discover new gems.

I usually think people who Unilocal as a hobby are, at their best, sad and lonely and, at their worst, ill-​informed and malicious. However, every once in a while, I have such a pleasant experience that I feel compelled to tell others. Today, after visiting Grapepoint Wines, I definitely felt compelled. I choose to overlook the business name (I really detest puns and «wordplay») and walked in. The owner, Joanna, greeted me and let me puruse at my leisure. Grapepoint Wines offers a great selection, especially in Italian wines, all with a great price point (most below $ 20).
I settled on a few bottles, including a 2010 Viña Quintay Syrah Clava Coastal Reserve and a 2010 Domaine Gérard Millet Sancerre. Without boring you with in-​depth descriptions, I’ll just say that both wines were balanced and affordable (aka delicious and inexpensive). I chatted for Joanna a bit, expressing my gratitude for a decent wine shop in the neighborhood. I found out that they have wine tastings every Friday. Since I live only a few blocks away, I’m sure I’ll start every weekend with a trip to Grapepoint Wines.

Everyone focuses on simply buying some alcohol to enjoy the night; however, Grapepoint Wines and Joanna make lifting a glass a joyous occasion. She is also a plethora of knowledge on rare wines!

I stopped in for the first time today, and it was a lovely experience. I had a nice chat with the owner Joanna, who seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me and in getting me home with a bottle of wine that I would love. She volunteered to give me tastings of the bottles she had open, and she was enthusiastic and educational without being pushy or snobby about wine. (Wine can be intimidating for the newbie!) There was a nice selection of lower priced wines (just because I’m not flush doesn’t mean I don’t love wine), as well as more moderately priced bottles. There are regular wine tastings, and the space is beautiful. You will be seeing me there!

I am so excited to see this new wine store in the area!!! It has wonderful selections from across the globe and the owner is so enthusiastic about helping you find the right wine. This place is classy and understated but also simple and charming. I think it will do wonderfully with the surrounding demographic and eventually be an institution. This is what this area of Greenpoint needed. I’ve never wanted to buy wine more!
