Open at 8AM? Leaving now at 8:35AM. Open up on time, I heard that’s pretty important for businesses.

I get why everyone has given them five stars. Drop your car off in the morning. Pick it up in the evening. They even called me midday to notify me that the oil change was successful, and that no other issues were present with my car. Price was right for NYC. I plan to use them again for anything else my car needs.

I went to Galaxy motors after reading all the 5 star reviews on Unilocal to fix a check engine light and brake issue. I arrived 9am on Saturday and the lady was nice and let us know they were too busy to fix the problem that day, but would take a look at the brakes and let us know what was wrong. A couple hours later we came back and she said (sounding really flustered) they didn’t know what either issue was because they needed to scan the car on the computer, but they had too much going on. She couldn’t give us a time to come back (like later in the week) or recommend another shop to fix the issue. I found that odd because what company would turn down business? I wanted to make Galaxy my go-​to shop in the neighborhood but I couldn’t even get them to take my car.

I had a grinding sound coming from my AWD Volvo station wagon. Some internet sleuthing pointed to a faulty rear driveshaft. I took it to a European auto specialist in Amityville, they quoted me at $ 450 just to remove the shaft to determine whether it could be repaired or needed to be replaced. If repaired, another $ 1500 minimum in labor, if replaced, they were charging $ 1000 for the part and another $ 1000 minimum to install. Considering I’d paid $ 2000 for the car, I was bummed.
Some further online sleuthing, and I found a place online that mails a full drive shaft (I believe they are called Colorado Drive Shaft) for $ 550, with a $ 100 rebate if the old one is mailed back. So I talked to Carlos at Galaxy (my girlfriend found him on Unilocal,trusted the positive reviews). Long story short, he agreed to replace the drive shaft for $ 145. The shaft came in, and they replaced it that same day (and even replaced the fuel pump, which I had an extra one already, for FREE). The bill came to $ 147.50 (I think he charged me for a washer/​nut that didn’t come on the new shaft). I tipped his guy $ 20, I was so happy.
Currently waiting on new parts to arrive (timing belt, engine mounts) to head back there again. If you do the research and narrow it down (buying a $ 50 computer that plugs into your dash to read engine codes will save you a fortune), Carlos is the man. He saved me over $ 2,000. If you don’t happen to have a family member who is a mechanic, Carlos is the next best thing.

Not being from Brooklyn I was initially a little sketched out at the thought of leaving my car across the street from project housing, but it was no problem. Car was safe, staff was super friendly and price was good — got oil change and tire rotation. On the way to pick up my car, walking out of subway, my foot got cut and without knowing it I was bleeding … On the floor of their office … They didn’t freak out or get mad, their main concern was me getting foot cleaned, rubbing alcohol, etc, thru the kindness of their reaction I can only surmise that these are good good people

Imagine my panic when my car would not start. A new Brooklyn resident who barely knows her way around, I freaked out at the thought of finding a good mechanic. After seeing the Unilocal reviews I gave Galaxy a shot and was BEYOND PLEASED! The staff was extremely informative, timely and efficient. They took their time to give me the most cost effective service and not take advantage a woman who knows very little about cars. Needless to say, I will always bring my car to Galaxy Motors for service.

I’ll never use another mechanic in Brooklyn. Carlos is helpful, fast, and amazingly affordable. I’ve probably saved about $ 800 getting my 1997 honda up to inspection through Carlos. Best of all, he and the folks in his office go above and beyond — after the admin person at the desk called around to windshield repair spots for me all day, she told me I could drop my car off the next morning and she’d drive it over to get repaired. WHAT! I wish I could give them more than five stars, they’ve forever earned my business.

Best mechanic I’ve ever met. Carlos is extremely knowledgeable and his service is honest, thorough, and very cost effective. He will happily use parts you supply or source them for a reasonable cost. All in all, I’ve probably saved more than $ 1,000 using Carlos exclusively and my 20-​year-​old truck is in the best possible shape. If you want the bare minimum, Carlos will do it, no questions asked. But where his work really shines is in his foresight. For example, he’ll do a $ 15 welding job today that will save you $ 500 tomorrow, or replace a few rusted parts at cost because he’s already done the labor required to access them. There’s a simple explanation: many of his clients become customers for life. Let this man take care of your car and you’ll learn time and time again just how much an ounce of prevention is worth.

I brought my VW Passat here twice, both times they were fair, honest and friendly. Can’t ask for more. What a relief to find a good mechanic. I’m close by but I would say it’s worth driving here even if you’re not.

My go to place! They are helpful without being pushy and very knowledgeable of cars and how to do a job in the most cost effective way! I always get in and get out with my oil changes. Won’t take my cars anywhere else!

Carlos is the man! I was being jerked around by AAA over them making good on a bad battery I purchased from
Them (they owed me a replacement for under warranty). Two different technicians told me my alternator was broken and the battery was fine, trying to avoid giving me a replacement. I was lucky enough to have Carlos’ expertise to provide the reality check. He immediately identified that the alternator was fine and helped me get back up and running. Honest, knowledgable, and highly recommended!

Can’t recommend this shop enough. Couldn’t have been more concerned about the front end work I had done on my ’84 El Camino. Fair price, honest fast labor. Great shop.

Carlos is great! very educated and honest Mechanic, I went in thinking my 2009 Lexus Is 250 had a suspension issue because of some noise I heard but he took it for a drive and concluded something else. Got some nuts and bolts greased up and out the door. Very good experience! will be returning to get my AC recharged.

I went into Galaxy Motors for an oil change. They were friendly, informative, quick, and great to work with. So happy with their service!

I’ll put it this way… Galaxy Motors is so good that I spent the time to figure out my Unilocal password and get on here to review them.
Seriously, I don’t know how they do it but every time I bring my car to them, it’s hundreds and hundreds of dollars less than I would expect it to cost. They even greet me by name when I get there, which is a crazy concept in NYC.
If you’re looking at this page right now, trying to figure out where to bring your car to get repaired/​oil changed/​whatever, stop looking and just go to Galaxy Motors.

I’m always very, very dubious of auto mechanics. I’ve been ripped off plenty of times by reputable repair shops. My dad has been an avid customer of Galaxy Motors for years, and always asked me why insisted on expensive repairs from my dealer, when Galaxy was clearly just as good as anyone else.
I’ve dealt with them many times in the past few years, and they have done work for less that my Dealership would have charged me hundreds of dollars for. If you live in the area, they are worth it.

I went to Galaxy because my car was leaking transmission fluid at a rapid rate. I am very loyal to my guy in Queens, but I couldn’t get my car there safely, and he doesn’t tow, so I decided to look locally.
First, Galaxy recommended a guy who could tow me on my own schedule. His name was AJ, and admittedly I was a little skeptical at first since the call clearly went to his personal phone with a club style ringback, but he was on time and hilarious. He even drove me to the place and was really cool about it. He even offered to drive me to the train afterward, even though I declined because I felt bad.
Second, I was expecting the repairs to be more than my car is worth (it’s old and abused, but I just can’t let go of it). They immediately raised it to take a look underneath while I stood there. Before doing any work, they physically showed and explained it to me that it was just a severe dent in my oil pan that was pressing on my fluid line. So, they replaced my oil pan, fluids, gaskets and filters that same day, and it wasn’t expensive at all. They very easily could have made up some BS and charged me out the wazoo, but they didn’t.
In summary, no gimmicks, they are very nice, quick and knowledgeable. I would recommend them to a friend. The only downside for me is that they close at 6, so I had trouble getting there in the evening, but they open promptly at 8am, so it’s not that bad.

This family business is run by solid, honest, hardworking people whose auto repair knowledge is top notch. We have a thirty year old car and they always go the extra mile to keep it running smoothly at a minimal cost.
