Specialties

Freddy’s is called «One of the Best Bars in America» by Esquire, while locally L Magazine Calls us «Brooklyn’s most eclectic, smarty-pants and resilient bar.»

Freddy’s is a comfortable bar with a cozy backyard, & a backroom for music, comedy & readings. Time Out NY said «Freddy’s is as near a perfect saloon experience as you’ll ever encounter,» & the Gothamist voted us «One of the 11 Best Small Music Venues in NYC,»

We feature delicious pub grub. Our Kitchen serves noon to 2am 365 & our bar til 4am 365. Our Happy Hour is noon to 7pm, 7 days a week, & includes a Nathan’s Dog & any tap beer for $ 5. In addition all taps & well shots are $ 4, PBR & Highlife are $ 2.

Behind our vintage 1950’s red mahogany bar we boast a wide selection of your favorite liquor and beer, as well as a small cat (Billy) that never stops drinking.

We feature acclaimed video montages by co-owner Donald O’Finn that play on various TVs inside, while a 25 foot wide flickering image plays outside. The Village Voice also listed the Videos in it’s «Best Of» issue twice.

We proudly display large African albino water frogs in a compelling flush mounted wall tank, as well as a thousand other details too numerous to mention.

History

Established in 2011.

Freddy’s has been the subject of numerous articles & documentaries. One such film by Vicente Ortega called Freddy’s «a thriving cultural hub.» The New York Observer said «a neighborhood haven for working-class drinkers, the CBGB’s of Brooklyn or a fountainhead of activism, creativity and dissent.» From the same article Donald O’Finn, Freddy’s co-owner says «Freddy’s is not merely a building on a street corner, It is a grand idea.»

The Brooklyn Paper voted Freddy’s one of Brooklyn’s 200 most influential institutions.

The blog «History is Made at Night» recalls of Freddy’s past «…there weren’t many bars in Brooklyn with found video loops broadcast on a TV over the bar, or that played the whole Velvet’s Banana album or the Ramones or 80’s British punk. The back room featured everything from hardcore to experimental jazz’.»

We were Voted among Esquire’s «Best Bars in America.»
