I thought the café had a nice ambiance, and, happily, it was actually possible to get a table which was great on a Sunday at brunchtime. However it is expensive! 14 bucks for an omelet? Where am I? Monte Carlo? It was an omelet — ham and cheese — nothing particularly amazing at all.

PERFECTION IN A CUP. I walk 7 plus blocks without coffee to make it to this place for their products. Fantastic staff, wonderful atmosphere, FREE of hormones and shiat milk. Everything is very carefully thought out.
I LOVE this coffee!!! People, you won’t regret it and will be joining me in the 7 block walk to coffee heaven!

Wow, so disappointing! Terrible, terrible service. Not very friendly greeting, assumed I wanted my latte asked without asking, and then when they were remaking it, were going to use the wrong kind of milk. Didn’t ask my friend if she wanted room for cream/​milk – just assumed. Terrible pastry selection (1 stale muffin, a bunch of ham & cheese croissants – really?) and overpriced to boot. The one positive – yes, the single origin coffee was very tasty. Worth it? No way. Also, the outdoor seating is on a major slant, which makes for an oddly unpleasant seating experience.
Wish I could have loved this place, but really, I didn’t.

First off, for the first timers: This coffee shop shares a space with a restaurant, and the restaurant won out when it came to gracing the storefront with a sign – thus you’ll see «Sweet Wolf» (the restaurant’s name), not «Forty Weight», on the front of the building. Kinda tricky, but once you’re in the know, you’re golden.
I’ve been in the market for a coffee shop where I can sit down for a while, do some work, and enjoy both the coffee and the ambiance. Forty Weight completely fits the bill. It’s a very handsome space: brick walls, bronzed ceiling, dark wood paneling. There are two communal tables and a handful of smaller tables; additionally, there is an outdoor patio in front of the store with a few tables. The music, while not always the best study/​work music (e.g. hip hop (albeit the more chilled out end of the genre)), is always at a low volume and eclectic (usually laid back rock, but, like I said, some hip hop, etc.).
The coffee is awesome. Very flavorful, not acidic, well balanced – just all around very impressive. The higher quality, though, causes the price of the coffee to go up – $ 2.25 for a regular cup of (french press) coffee.
The barristas are amiable and knowledgeable about their coffee. They obviously take a lot of pride in their craft. Although with a place that serves quality coffee and has a knowledgeable staff, there’s the risk of coming off as pretentious. Luckily, I haven’t found that to be the case with the staff. They are helpful and knowledgeable without putting on airs about the coffee. It’s much appreciated.

Is there some sort of inverse correlation between having a college education and being able to fit two cups of coffee into one bag? Because the staff here had that hipster college-​educated look, there were a hell of a lot of them, it took approximately forever to get one coffee, one latte and a couple of baked goods from the glass case, the whole shebang cost $ 15, and not one of them would even try to put both my coffee drinks in a bag so I could carry them home like a normal person.
They tried to offer me one of those cardboard carrier things, but you basically need two hands for those. I was carrying shit already. I only had one hand to spare.
I ended up putting the coffees in the bag myself. It is pretty hard to get ‘em both wedged in there, but that seems like the sort of skill you should acquire if you work in a coffee shop, right?
On the other hand, the coffees were good and the cheddar chive scone was excellent.

This place is for serious coffee lovers.

Go to their café, and you can have one of the owners grind and brew their spectacular beans for you.
But as I said, this is for serious coffee lovers. A pour over coffee can take several minutes to make (but watching them do it is worth the time alone). It’s clear by the quality of the coffee, the great effort in brewing each cup, and the wealth of knowledge here that these people truly care about what they do.
Espresso beverages are great too, and everyone is very sweet.
Food selection is not great – just a few scones and things. But since the café is in Sweetwolf’s, you can hang around and sip coffee until the restaurant opens for lunch! They’re making some mean pulled pork these days.

Wow, another surprise find. I’ve actually been here before, but their nighttime dinner incarnation. During the day they morph into a corner coffeeshop, where locals stop to chat, meet a friend, and have some great third wave coffee. Espresso was just perfect, and the wifi is available too if you want to stay longer. Password is … well password!

This place is great! The baristas really know their coffee, and thanks to them pour-​overs are my new love! They usually have three different coffees to choose from, and I’ve learned a lot!

A coffee shop by day, restaurant by night. Sweet Wolf and Forty Weight are located in the same physical location, with the latter serving up pour over coffee, espresso and other hot and cold drinks from behind Sweet Wolf’s bar.
Each week they have a different selection of pour over coffees and also have their featured french press coffee. The pour over coffee varies based on market price, so if you’re looking for just a cup of jo, go with the french press because the other cups can get expensive. (There’s a menu to help you with the coffees of the week).
I had a Yemeni pour over, which, as described, was fruity in flavor. The nice part was that they turned it into an au lait for me, as I like my coffee milky. I also got a cranberry almond biscotti, which was okay. Their sweet treats aren’t that extensive, as other Unilocalers have said.
Last thing is that the large community style tables are nice, they also have smaller tables and you can sit at the bar. There is a lot of sunshine in the morning and the whole place has a really laid back feel. The baristas are friendly and helpful. I thought it was adorable and awesome when one barista said to a colleague in earnest, «do you want a cappuccino, I want to practice my craft!»

So happy to have this place in South Slope! The coffee is delicious. The baristas are super friendly. I love that you can stick around and wait for Sweet Wolf’s to open for lunch and enjoy the best of both worlds.
I’m dinging them one star for a few reasons:
1. The food offerings arent that great. If they added in some proper breakfast noshables I’d be happy. The muffin and scone selection is so-​so.
2. The sun absolutely BLAZES in the front windows. Makes it tough to find a good place to sit w/​o burning out my eyeballs, which brings me to:
3. The communal table is good in theory, but bad when you’ve got 50 laptops plugged in around the table and have to work your way to the lone open spot in the middle of the table, making those already seated have to get out so you can slide over. Not ideal.
Still, love this place. My #1 go to place!

Forty Weight Café’s appeal:
— Friendly workers! They will patiently and happily explain each item in the pastry case. Also, the barista takes his time making your drink. You can tell that he cares about how his drinks come out.
— LOTS of natural light. Almost too much. I sat next to the front door where they get the most sun and my back was burning up. I liked it a lot, but I could see it being too hot for most people.
— Really delicious vegan carrot muffin! I can’t remember where they said they get their food items from, but they did say they get it from 2 different places. I’ll need to find out, because that muffin was super tasty!
— Cute, colored plates!
— Clean «hidden» bathroom in the back.
I do like the communal table look, but functionality-​wise, I don’t think it works here. One side is against the wall, so if you’re stuck in the middle of the table, you’re kind of screwed. I think they should stick to having several small tables.

still the best and most consistently mind bogglingly good coffee/​espresso in NYC! in keeping with the best this country has to offer in that regard. trust me, I’ve tried it all.
most pleasant and talented barristas and most interesting and reasonably priced pour over menu around. crazy espresso… just crazy.

I have been going to this café since opening.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
I am a coffee brat and having been spoiled by some of the finest I can
truly say they have an outstanding product.
The americanos are delish and the pour overs all have unique flavors.
It’s really cool that the café owners roast their own beans and are serving you
their product! How cool is that?
You must give it a try. 5 stars!

A cool concept: a café built in the entryway of a restaurant (Sweetwolf’s) that’s only open at night. Build a door that closes off the restaurant space during the day, split the overhead and rent, and maximize the utility of the premium Park Slope location. Why don’t more restaurants do this?
This coffeeshop’s more than a pragmatic concept, though: it’s also friendly baristas, decent tunes, free wifi, long tables perfect for meetings, and well-​poured coffee, which make it a legit morning destination.
Unfortunately, the café only takes cash at the mo’, and there’s not much breakfast food on offer, save some baked goods and muesli. Might I recommend Sweetwolf’s donate something more than its front foyer to Forty Weight and make us some real sammiches or somethin’ else substantial to buy?

I didn’t even realize how much I’d love it, I had no idea what it was even going to be, but the work on the space was so intriguing, I couldn’t wait to see what he future might hold for 492 6^th Ave. And now, finally… its arrived!
The future is bright. And caffeinated!
In the front portion of Sweetwolf’s exists Forty Weight Café, open daily until 4pm. It operates independently from the restaurant. There are long communal tables and some very talented roasters/​barristas working alongside each other to bring you fine, fine cups of coffee. Also a small selection of fresh pastries each day.
The friendly guy behind the counter walked me through the «pour over» options (Oh, drip, pedestrian!) and I chose the Guatemalan. Now, you see… I drink a lot of coffee, most average to very good. I rank Forty Weight as EXCELLENT. Strong, fresh, flavorful and ferociously caffeainated. I was jamming for most of the day on my little pour-​over jolt. Just the way I like it.

*ceramic mugs for those folks staying for a bit.
A win/​win. I like this spot MUCH better than the ultra-​cramped Red Horse kitty corner. Nice to have options. Forty Weight’s got the goods. I’ll make it a regular stop.

Came here last week on a sunny fall afternoon when Red Horse was just too darn crowded and hot… I looked across the street and saw an airy and open café — totally new to me!
Free wireless — that is what initially drew me in.
BUT the coffee… fabulous selection of single origin beans, pour over coffee and a large selection of teas and other coffee beverages for those not as obsessed as me.
Delightful staff — co-​owner Matt and barista Patrick were friendly, chatty and sweet AND made some kick ass Honduran pour over and a chai tea.
Definitely worth coming back and watching the café grow and expand and collect fans near and far.

What a great addition to the neighborhood!
We’ve waited anxiously for this new café to open and this morning sampled our first tastes of coffee heaven! In an area saturated with coffee shops this is a refreshing departure from other cafes serving Barrington & Stumptown coffees. The Forty Weight coffee is soooo much better. A great delicious, smooth cup of Hondourus for me. And an bold but well rounded smooth americano for my husband. Thank goodness for a more italian roast coffee outlet. I just could not take one more cup of over roasted, bitter and burnt coffee in the hood! Additionally, very authentic croissants — super buttery and light! The muffins looked and smelled amazing! I look forward to having one when I can eat carbs again! LOL Congrats to the owner and roasting master of this café, Matt Marks. Stop by for a cup and Matt will be happy to talk bean roasting with you any time — fascinating!
