I moved to Fort Greene about a year and started researching internists in the area for me and my husband and heard about Dr. Fletcher. The Unilocal reviews sort of put me off at first, but a friend of mine in Park Slope strongly recommended Dr. Fletcher, as she’d been seeing him for 15 years and had seen her through cancer scares, broken bones and variou other medical issues.
And I’m so glad I listened to her. I feel as though I found a new member of my extended family! I had about 20 minute wait time for my appt and the staff was courteous and friendy about all the paperwork. Apparently there has been an entire management change in the last year, and found none of the problems that have been echoed in the Unilocal reviews. But I understand how appts may have gotten bcked up i the past. Dr. Fletcher actually spends time with his patients!
On my first visit alone he spent about an hour with me, reviewing my entire medical history, right down to what over the counter vitamins I’m taking. He’s unbelievably thorough and concientious, and really knows his stuff. More than that, I felt that I could really talk to him, and that he was really listening. His approach is holistic, which I completely appreciate.
And then, a few months later, when I was having a small medical crisis, I called him early one Sunday morning, and he answered! And helped me right away, and I got a prescription filled, and he was there throughout the entire complexity of it. It’s so hard to find that in NYC. Dr. Fletcher is that great blend of being old school and hip and modern. My husband’s also had great experiences with him, especially when it came time to get some tricky pre authorizations for tests, which a lot of doctors don’t do in NYC.
So I feel very lucky to have found Dr. Fletcher (and I guess I’m glad the office is under new management and it’s not chaotic anymore). He’s a real partner in health with you. And a cool person to boot.

Went to what was billed as «one of the first appointments of the day». Waited for 1.5 hours. Ended up walking out. Staff was nice enough but no excuse for waiting that long so early in the day.

Looking for a new primary care physician, I walked out after waiting for more than an hour. If there is not enough respect for me to see me within a reasonable amount of time, this is not the doctor for me– and by the way, he took another patient at the 70 minute mark, so who knows how long it would have been? Avoid.

Wow. The staff here is horrible. Personal cell phone calls, ignoring patients. I have never seen anything so bizarre in my whole life. It seems like they don’t care about not havin a job. He doctor is good though. Right to the point

I like Dr. Fletcher. He seems to be to be knowledgeable, kind and discerning. Yes, I had to wait for a long time, but this is a low cost clinic in Brooklyn, so I was not surprised. I think he is a good doctor.

This man is crazy. He barley spoke to me, seemed a bit off his rocker. He was rude and cold. He also gave me a TB test in his OFFICE, as in where he has all his paper work, totally unsanitary. He also told me to floss b/​c it is good for my heart??? He is insanse and I highly suggest not going to him. He also made rude comments to me b/​c I did not read a form that was given to me by a referral from another doc.

Great doctor… But the staff sucks big time.

The best doctor I have seen in New York City, hands down. Extremely attentive, got to us pretty fast, very thorough. Sent us to the ER (which is right down the street at United Methodist) and gave us his cell phone number (and asked for ours) so that he could keep tabs on us. A+. Will be coming back for regular checkups.

Visited the office for the first time this week. Everyone was extremely nice and very knowledgeable. I didn’t experience a painfully long wait time like other people complained about, and it seemed like other patients were being taken in at a regular pace as well. It’s a clean office with great people.

Both Dr. Fletcher and his staff are wonderful. I am shocked by the negative reviews about his front office staff-​they are the most caring and helpful I have ever encountered in a doctor’s office. My boyfriend and I were very scared and nervous, as he had symptoms that pointed to a serious illness. I did a lot of research before our appointment and knew that we needed an ultrasound, blood work, and a referral to a specialist. Dr. Fletcher did all of these things immediately and with a lot of compassion since he knew how worried we were. Upon leaving, we were discreetly informed by his staff that our insurance was inactive. Panicked, we called our insurance and were told it was due to a paper error and it would be retro-​activated but would take a week. Dr. Fletcher’s staff went above and beyond in helping us with this matter. I can’t say enough wonderful things about them and Dr. Fletcher! I am switching my primary care physician to Dr. Fletcher after our experience with him and his fantastic, caring, and kind staff.

Dr. Fletcher is a great doctor, attentive and thorough. However, I would second the review that states that the staff can be less than professional. I too have been put off on medically related business so the nurse could chat with another woman about personal matters. There’s no excuse for that. There is complaining about patients in front of other patients. I don’t really need to hear that either. The rudeness has often led me to be on the fence as to whether I should return; if it weren’t for the excellent doctor, I would not.
I do not think my perspective is one where I think I should be «catered to” — after all, I don’t complain about the long waits for everything, as that can’t always be helped. But staff members being patient and courteous should be a given– I don’t expect anything more than how I treat my own clients at my job.

I have seen Dr. Fletcher for two years and I find him a caring, old fashioned doctor. However a record-​keeping incident makes me downgrade him somewhat. I saw him in June and July and had tests done that I wanted sent to my cardiologist in February. His staff said that he had archived the records because I hadn’t been in for a very long time. I work in medicine and I know no one who archives records less than a year old, and after verifying with my pharmacist, I can only suspect that the piles of records I saw may not have been getting filed properly.

I went to see Fletcher when I had a really bad cold. It was nice to have an oppt. the same day. I sat and waited miserably for 50 minutes before Dr. Fletcher finally took me to his office. He was an all right MD and he wrote me an prescription I needed for the cold. Not a warm person, but he did his job. So when I needed a regular check up I went back to him since I didn’t have a regular guy to see. I thought it took so long the first time was because that I was a new patient. However, the second time around I waited for an hour. I finally asked the front desk lady when I might be seen by Dr. Fletcher. His nurse told me that there was another guy ahead of me and I would have to wait for another 30 minutes. She said it as the matter of fact that everyone should expect to wait that long to be seen and she turned her back to me and got back to her chick chat with her co-​worker. So out of frustration and I told her that I would like to cancel my appt. and please make sure that I would not be charged. She snapped at me and said: why would you be charged if he didn’t see you? I was so shocked that she was so rude! I have waited for my midwife for an hour, but she was totally worth the wait and her staff was very nice and felt bad when her patients had to wait so long. I feel sorry for Dr. Fletcher hires someone so mean like his nurse, because I am sure many people get turn off by the bad experience. I believe Fletcher is a good enough Dr., but there are so many MDs out there in the area. I would not go back there again to waste my time, my hard earn money and being treated badly by his staff. I am glad that there is a place like
to chare my experience so many of you can save your precious time and money.

Dr. Fletcher is the best Dr. I have ever seen HANDS DOWN… and let me tell you this year I’ve seen so many docs it could make your head spin. Hopefully this means I’m reaching my quota. I can’t say enough great things about him. However, most importantly he is genuine, by which I mean he actually seems to care about your well being. He listens to what you have to say and then talks you through the reasoning for his course of action, there is no rushing you out of the office. Moreover, he will actually personally return your phone call if you have an urgent situation!
Warning: Front office are pleasant but it’s hectic and unorganized. Have had a lot of difficulty and miscommunication with them lately. I’ll deal with it though, because I like Dr. Fletcher

I’ve been seeing Dr. Fletcher for about 25 years. He has done his utmost to help me out when I needed it most. When hospitalized under his direction, he was an excellent advocate for me when I had disagreements with the hospitals’ course of treatment.
I find Dr. Fletcher to be (as Amy E. notes) an old-​fashioned doctor who actually cares how you’re feeling and tries to supply reasonably priced health care. Now if that means I may occasionally have to wait a while in the office, well that’s life, huh? I left Park Slope because of the «I’m so important, why aren’t you catering your entire business to me» attitude. Sorry, Ryan E., the world doesn’t revolve around Park Slope residents. That time is past.
I like everyone in the office, and have fun joking with Bill, the allegedly «unprofessional, gruff and unhelpful» office manager. You never feel like you’re just another faceless patient. When necessary, I have instant access to Dr. Fletcher’, and have never had to wait more than a couple of days for a plain old checkup.
All in all, I would recommend Dr. Fletcher without reservation. Just don’t bring an attitude and you won’t be treated in kind.

I went to Dr. Burton because I read great reviews of him everywhere but on Unilocal,but that was a mistake. I second what the other reviewer expressed: Dr Burton himself is fine, but everything else about his office is awful.
I came in for a checkup: my first appointment as a new patient. Appointment was at 10 am. Office manager and nurse didn’t show up until 10:30. The doctor arrived around 11:15. There was a problem with my insurance that meant I had to pay up front and deal with getting a reimbursement, even though he’s supposed to be in network. I specifically asked whether there was anything I should know about my insurance plan when I made the appointment.
During the physical, a nurse took blood, did a cardiogram, checked my weight, temp, and blood pressure. I saw Dr. Burton for 3 minutes and was told he would complete the physical when I came in for my follow-​up. A follow-​up for a physical? Of course, this is so that they can get the max possible from my insurance co – I should have asked if they were planning to waste an hour of my day waiting for them to get to work the next time too.
Then when it came time to pay… For this half a physical, I paid 3 co-​pays of $ 15 each, plus the fee which I have to submit for reimbursement: one co-​pay for the «physical»; one co-​pay for taking the blood; one co-​pay for the cardiogram. I’ve paid lab fees for blood work before, but I don’t think I’ve ever had to pay an extra co-​pay to have blood taken. I mean, they didn’t do anything else except take blood and do the cardiogram, both of which I paid for separately, so what was the $ 15 for the physical itself even for? And I’ll be paying another co-​pay when I go back for the follow-​up.
Except I won’t be going back. As tough as it is to find a good doctor around here and get your family in as new patients, I’m not going back to Dr. Burton.

Dr. Fletcher is fine.
His office is a complete mess. Bill Coleto (the guy in front) is unprofessional, often gruff, and unhelpful. The other assistant is nicer but similarly less than totally competent.
When I moved to Park Slope in August 2007, I signed up after finding Dr. Fletcher’s name in my HMO list and on these boards. I’ve been to see him, or more frequently Dr. Layton last fall when Fletcher was out, probably 5 times.
I’ve never been so disappointed with long wait times and inexcusably bad service. I’ve switched doctors and suggest others do the same. My principal complaints are that the waits are intolerably long and the front office staff is unhelpful.
In particular, getting a referral for something as straightforward as an ophthalmological exam has been exceedingly difficult. The office never successfully completed the referral during my most recent request, and I had to call them back and bug them. Then I was ultimately told to come in to see Dr. Fletcher, even though he had greenlit the same referral, a standard annual kind of checkup for glaucoma screening, last year. Bill was rude, and I couldn’t convince him.
In short, stay away. Dr. Fletcher himself is fine, but he isn’t worth the heartache. When I visited him for a simple EpiPen refill prescription, I waited around an hour past my appointment time. Fletcher seemed embarrassed and apologized several times during our minute-​long meeting. He’s a standup guy. Bill should get a different job.
