I’m beyond disgusted by the overwhelming bigotry and disrespect a friend of mine recently experienced while in this shop. Verbally attacking a long time customer or any customer because of their sexual orientation is NEVER okay. And for the rest of the staff to not come to her aid is deplorable. As an FIT student, when I’d shop at places like Mood, everyone was treated with kindness and the utmost respect. Not one ill word was ever spoken about any one on the floor. It’s fashion. There are far better more tolerant fabric stores. If you’re prejudice and can’t even bother to apologize for upsetting your clientele, you have no business serving people in the first place.

I just heard the most horrific story from a good friend who’s fiancée was harassed by an employee of this store. She was shopping and overheard some homophobic remarks being made and told the employee that his remarks are offensive even though they were not intended towards her. The conversation escalated and ended in the employee calling her a very offensive name. Needless to say, she left without making her purchase and will no longer be frequenting this store.
Please consider this before giving Flatbush Fabrics your business.

So disappointed. I used to shop here regularly when I worked as a designer. I travel to NYC just to buy and source fabric for commissions now, and this store was a regular stop for me. But the other day a good friend was verbally abused by a homophobic clerk. He yelled obscene things at her after she asked him politely not to say such hateful things about gay people like her.
Needless to say, I will not spend another cent at this store while this kind of behavior is tolerated by the owners. And I will make sure no one else I know or work with does either.
