News Flash! Warby Parker isn’t killing your eyeglass business, you’re doing that all on your own. I’ve never worn glasses more than an hour a day until recently, when my contact lenses started giving me problems. I had an old pair of Warby Parker glasses that were cheap and functional for the hour before bedtime that I wore them. But, since I found myself wearing glasses much more frequently, it was time to upgrade. My old pair of glasses needed to be refit so I could continue wearing them until my new eye insurance kicked in. I thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to test out an eyeglass shop and see if their service and fit were good, and to take a look at new frames. If everything worked out, I would return to purchase a new pair of glasses in a few weeks. Turns out that this was a great I idea; I found my answer immediately.
I took my Warby Parker glasses into the Eye Shoppe on 7^th, intending to get them refit while scoping out new frames. I walked in and asked about refitting and asked how much the service would cost. I was told that the price would depend on what kind of glasses. I handed them over. The person working the counter took them back to the optometrist (I presume) and came back and perfuntorily said that they won’t fit Warby Parker glasses. I inquired why and was told that «they’re killing our industry.»
Perhaps it’s your crappy customer service, not Warby Parker? You lost me as a customer within a minute of coming into your shop because you refused to offer me a PAID service based on the brand of glasses. For anyone else who is interested, Eyes on the Slope (one block away) refit my old glasses for free and I found a great pair of new frames there!

She is a French designer and this particular pair was no longer available in Philly. After a quick search on google, I called the Eye Shoppe. Randy answered. I left the name, ‘Kendra in black and gold,” with him and went back to work. Randy got back immediately, «No they didn’t have them in store, but Yes, he could order them from Paris and would be happy to do so.» I emailed my prescription over and he suggested a complimentary glass thickness. I went with it. «It should take about two weeks» Randy said.
13 days later Randy called to let me know they were on the way. The next day the frames arrived.
From Paris to Brooklyn to Philly… Randy and Michael, thank you for your help! Our global project was worth it! I love them!!!

They have a very nice selection of glasses, but that’s about it. Michael has to be one of the most arrogant people I have ever dealt with. Every question is met with a «Oh we can do that,» or «Oh, we have that,» even if they can’t do it or they don’t have it. He doesn’t listen to the customer, because he believes he’s always right (even when he’s wrong, and he’s wrong a lot). He has sold me glasses that were too big, insisting they were the perfect size, that I was crazy to think they were too big. He wouldn’t give me my prescription when I wanted to buy prescription swim goggles online. It’s ridiculous to keep a customer’s prescription from them. I paid for the exam, that information should be mine to take with me. I learned the hard way not to trust him.

I don’t know how else to say this… the staff here are just bad people. They won’t tell you the name of the glasses you’re trying on, probably because they are paranoid that you’ll buy them online. The problem is: you can’t survive as an independent shop by offering a product and forcing people to buy it from you. Of course the product is cheaper online. It always is. People will buy from you because you treat them like a human and provide good customer service. This place is so far behind in terms of modern business sense.

Be unique. Get noticed.
Michael has the most stunning selection of glasses that are both incredibly rare and simply stunning. Not a day goes by that someone doesn’t compliment me on my gorgeous (hand made in France, natch!) frames. I don’t have to wear jewelry, my glasses are my statement piece. Form and function come together. I used to lament my poor eyesight, but now I look forward to picking out new frames like fashionistas look forward to fashion week. Thanks, Michael, for curating such an amazing and bold collection.

Michael continues to amaze me with not only his great selection of eyewear but his incredible service. I would not go anywhere else for my glasses.

In a neigborhood filled with eye shops, this one trumps all the other. They have the absolute best selection of frames, from the classic Paul Smith and Oliver Peoples (and yes, even Ray Ban) to the amazingly stylish celebrity favorites like Thierry Lasry and Ann and Valentin. Most important, Michael, the owner, knows exactly what looks best on you and won’t let you leave with a frame you will regret. I’ve bought countless glasses from Michael and his amazingly friendly wife Paula, and wouldn’t buy from anyone else.

Went here after seeing that they sold frames from a manufacturer I was interested in. I walked in and was immediately greeted by Michael and another guy. They helped me select a frame that I liked. I left a deposit and my glasses were ready in about 4 days as they promised. I found the staff to courteous and helpful.

Places like the Eye Shoppe on 7^th are the neighborhood gems that we need to promote and support! I had my first great experience here when I dropped in there last summer for a nice pair of sunglasses. They had a great selection, and the saleswomen spent close to 30 minutes of dedicated time with me to help try on various frames until we found the perfect Persol frame that I get compliments on all the time. In any event, I was recently forced to stop wearing contact lenses due to the development of some eye conditions. As such, I’ve been rocking a few pairs of Warby Parker glasses that I picked up on the cheap quite a while ago for the purpose of just having something to wear around the house when I didn’t want to wear contacts. Now that I can’t wear contacts, it became clear that I needed a pair of prescription sunglasses to handle the intense sun glare that I was unaccustomed to. Unfortunately, I have terrible vision, which means really thick lenses unless I use ultra high index materials. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money so I headed over to Warby Parker only to learn that they don’t offer their line of sunglasses with high index lenses. Back to the Eye Shoppe I went, and I am really glad that I did.
They have a great selection of frames, and do a particularly good job at picking out a few pairs of the best of the best from the higher end Luxottica lines. They also have a great selection of more moderately priced frames if you don’t want to spend and arm and a leg. In the end, it’s the lenses that will cost you the most, anyway, so my logic was that I might as well spend an extra $ 150 and get a really nice frame — this is an investment in something that you’ll *hopefully* have for a very long time, after all. After settling on a sweet Oliver Peoples frame, they went over the various lens options and coatings with me. They can do anything here — different colored tints, polarization, front and back glare coatings — you name it. They didn’t push me on the extras one bit. Ultimately, I decided to go for the works, because honestly, if you are going to spend $ 700+ on eye-​wear, what’s an extra $ 25 for an inner anti-​glare coating?!
The glasses were ready in 3 days which I thought was incredibly quick! As I said, up until recently, I didn’t wear glasses all that often, but as soon as I put my new sunglasses on, I could immediately tell that they were a premium product. The prescription was 100% on point (not always the case, in my experience) and the optical quality of the lens was above and beyond anything that I have ever experienced with my cheaper pairs of glasses. The vision is crisp, and clear and the glare reduction is absolutely brilliant. In short, sunglasses or otherwise, this is the best well made pair of glasses I have ever owned. To add icing onto the cake, the optician was extremely friendly and sincerely appreciative of my business.
So to sum it up, great friendly, prompt and appreciative service with quality output. Couldn’t ask for anything better.

Highly recommended. Extremely helpful and friendly people who deliver excellent service. Lots of great frames in great colors. I have bought 4 pairs of glasses in nearly 3 years (I tend to lose them). Will always come back here, thanks to Michael and all the rest of his staff!

I went to this place back in February after one of my favorite pair of YSL sunglasses’ lens broke. I got them repaired on the spot, went a shade darker and they looked even better than before, also got my other sunglasses tightened which I’ve done so many times before only to come back the next month and get them tightened again. I haven’t had to get them tightened since February! Love this place would recommend if you need any sunglass repair.

I’ve been coming here for my complicated eyeglasses prescriptions since 2002 and always marvel over how lovely and warm everyone is. More importantly, they do a wonderful job across the board, I trust them inherently with my demanding prescription, they always have the coolest frames (Anne et Valentine, le sigh!), and are just a total pleasure to work with. I won’t go anywhere else.

The staff was terrific here– espcially Richie Livan who sold me a seriously dope pair of glasses. Took a few times for the optometrist to get my script right but well worth it– I love my specs!

Went in to have a pair of sunglasses repaired. They were destroyed after one to many, but were to expensive to just toss out. Specifically, the both lenses would not stay in the frame. So I stopped by Eye Shoppe with high, if improbable hopes of repair. Richie greeted me immediately with a friendly smile and witty remarks. I know my review sounds like an old episode of Seinfeld but he really is that funny, lol. Anyway, after through evaluation in the back via some legit looking equipment, I was informed that the whole frame was slightly bent and new lenses would have to be cut. I begged Richie to do a quick fix, although he was hesitant he eventually agreed. With the disclaimer that it won’t hold but it should make me happy for a bit. If I forgo the after work drinks and tried my best to be careful. The best part is when I tried to pay him, he refused, explaining that since he really didn’t «fix» the glasses I didn’t need to pay. I mean up until that moment I had yet to see ANYONE turn down cash money in the name of customer service. Especially when they worked for 15 minutes trying to make the impossible happen. I will definitely be back. Customer service and professionalism on this scale hard to come by. Richie is truly a throw back to a by-​gone, but sorely missed, era.

This place is an ongoing headache. Literally. I bought a pair of glasses there and they just don’t fit. While I was being sold, they kept telling me, ‘don’t worry, we’ll adjust them’. I should have known better. The first day after I got my frames, the glasses dug into my nose so badly that they broke the skin. When I went back in, the sales guy told me I needed to wash my face with astringent! (?) I had to go back 3 times and every time they have been very unwilling to adjust my glasses.
Now, I rarely wear these overpriced ill-​fitting glasses because they constantly give me headaches. I would go back but I don’t want to have to deal with them anymore. A very expensive lesson learned.
I have worn glasses since the 2^nd grade and have never had such a terrible experience.

I went to four other shops to get some sunglasses fixed on 7^th Avenue and this was the only one who could do it. It is rare these days to find a place that doesn’t mind helping customers with those little things that they sometimes really need like a new screw in sunglassess.
It was to my great delight also to find out that the shop itself is awesome, great selection and most of all great knowledgeable staff. My husband is in the market for new glasses and I am sending him straight to Richie at Eye Shoppe on Seventh.

These guys are great. I knew I wanted some unique frames, and not the standard brands I saw everywhere, so I went in and bought a pair of Mykitas. They were so patient and helpful, especially Ritchie who sat with me talking through all the options and pulling almost every frame out so I could try it, making me feel at home. This is a neighborhood place. not a chain. And people like Richie give it the kind of personal touch that turns it from just another store into part of your neighborhood. I had an issue with my lenses 3 months later, and without hesitation when I brought them in Richie took them and fixed them for me without charging me a dime. I can’t recommend them highly enough, honestly!

I had a great shopping experience here. I’ve been wearing glasses my whole life so I’m a little picky when it comes to choosing frames. Eye shoppe had exactly what I was looking for — and they made my glasses in less than a week! The price was very good — for designer frames and the high index lenses it cost what I would usually pay with insurance but without using it. Super nice and friendly staff too!

Richie et al. took care of me. The staff is excellent as was the service and their selection of frames. Prices, too. That’s what you call a quadfecta. Oh: And they give you their honest opinion of how frames look on you rather than simply agreeing with your initial reaction. That’s pretty much all you need to know, right? Adam F., Sandra H., and the rest of the naysayers: please don’t let that hate consume you.
