Extra Fancy — oh how I want to love you. The Kabuki Theater is one of the weirdest most delightful cocktails I have ever had. Creamy, lime, a bit of spice. I could go swimming in a pool of this cocktail. They also have a well marked menu for gluten-free options, as well as a knowledgeable staff. Unfortunately, I set myself up for disappointment by dreaming all day of the lobster bisque fries that were denoted as gluten free friendly on their website* — when I got there I was swiftly disappointed to see they were not GF on the menu(confirmed by the waitress). From there, I think I probably just ordered poorly. I ordered the raw bar king crab which was yummy but a bit small, and the corn on the cob on the side. The corn was a bit too seaweedy, so I enjoyed the first few bites but ultimately it was a bit overwhelming. Ended up leaving a bit hungry and unsatisfied — will definitely order better next time. In the future, I will likely come back for just drinks and the raw bar, not the place to go when you’re craving a gluten free feast. *has since been updated — good job Extra Fancy!

This place is my late night go to but you can’t go wrong with choosing to go here at any hour. The cocktails are awesome, the raw seafood is super fresh and the deviled eggs are some of the best I’ve found in NYC.

Looking for a place to grab a bite and start my night. Stumbled upon extra fancy after our first choice’s kitchen closed at 11. We miss dinner there as well but they had a solid late night menu so we stayed. Ordered the deviled eggs, lobster bisque fries and cheeseburger(reluctantly since the fried chicken was sold out). Saddens me to say the breakout star was the deviled eggs. For $ 18 you will find yourself fishing through soggy fries for the lobster and shrimp promised in the lobster bisque fries and the cheeseburger offers you the joy of spending $ 15 for some of the finest board of Ed styled free lunch burgers you never asked for. The entire experience was completely underwhelming. I find it extremely hard to believe that a place with over 200 reviews maintains a 4 star rating serving what I had the displeasure of consuming. However I will give it one more try because I refuse to believe that Unilocal could be so far off the mark with this one.

Underwhelming my lobster bisque fries were not what they were raved up to be especially for 18 bucks. The deviled eggs were tasteless. My drinks were mediocre and the bar was hot as all hell. I was looking for something chill and laid back for my late night… All I got was bad gas and a food baby. Never coming here again they had to have paid for these reviews.

Ah, Extra Fancy, if only I had more time with you. Twas but a short visit – so short, in fact, that we had to rush out before our final dish arrived. And what a sad, sad reality that is. I wish we could have had longer together. There were so many things left unsaid – so many things left uneaten. You were kind and generous and you didn’t deserve the vanishing act that so many fools pull nowadays. Sure, you failed to deliver on one count, and I will need to fault you for that. But overall, you left me eager to return to you. It was goodnight but not goodbye! Okay, now that that’s over with, let’s read between the lines, shall we? We had approximately an hour to eat dinner before a quintessentially«Brooklyn» comedy show. We wanted to find a restaurant on the way to our theater. Me knowing next to nothing about Brooklyn other than a small handful of Williamsburg bookmarks, I had failed to do adequate research prior to embarking on our Brooklyn night. Walking from the Bedford stop, we found ourselves at Metropolitan Ave, at which point I checked my handy dandy Unilocal app. Extra Fancy happened to be one of those very special Williamsburg bookmarks – and was right at the very top of my Unilocal list. Part of me told me to forgo it, as we didn’t have as much time as I typically like to spend at places I’ve bookmarked. But it was too good not to pass up, so this is where we found ourselves. We walked in here around 7pm and asked for a table for two. I haven’t been out to eat in quite a while, so I completely forgot that this is the type of place that takes reservations. Luckily, a table had just opened up and was ours for the taking. I gather that«Extra Fancy» is meant to be ironic, but because the menu(food and drinks alike) is seriously quality and the prices reflect that, it doesn’t make all that much sense. If this place was a hole in the wall burger place, the point would be taken. But while this place isn’t «fancy», it’s not at all close to a s***hole, either. This all said, the décor here quite casual. It’s just straight up American-looking. In any case, we sat down and were immediately confronted with a very intimidating menu. Not because of its length, but because of how un-freaking-believable everything looked. Perhaps this was our downfall. The«leaving too soon» part I’ll get to was partially due to service, but partially due to our(mostly my) indecision. Anyway, the least we could do was order drinks to start. I got the«New Best Friend»(St. George Green Chile Vodka, Pimms #1, Royal Combier, Fresh Lime, Strawberries, Soda). Spicy, sweet and wonderfully refreshing. When it came to food, we had settled on three definites but were up in the air for our«main event», if you will. It was between the lobster bisque fries and the mussels. Though the lobster bisque fries were whatever a level up from enticing is, we wanted something lighter. So ultimately, we chose the mussels. Unfortunately, due to oddly slow food service(*our waiter was wonderful but the food came out at a puzzingly slow pace), we had to run to our comedy show before the mussels made an appearance. Thankfully, our waiter was understanding, apologized for the delay and made sure to take the mussels off of our check. So sadly, we had to settle for just three plates. But what a delightful three plates they were! Asparagus and Spring Pea Salad(A) Props to my dining companion for spotting this one. It didn’t look particularly enticing in text form, but boy was this a fantastic way to start the meal. Fresh, flavorful and wonderfully healthy. Not to mention one of the most aesthetically pleasing salads I’ve ever been served. Look at the picture and you might see some unexpected color there – edible flowers! And for an appetizer-sized/priced salad, this was a very nice portion. Perfect for the beginning of summer! Country Cornbread w/sorghum butter/salt(A) I hadn’t had cornbread in ages before this lovely dish. Not much to say here other than YUM. The only thing I know about sorghum butter: it makes warm, fresh cornbread taste extra extra great. So why question it? Like the salad, I found this to be a a very generous portion – especially for just $ 5. Serious bang for your buck value here. Grilled corn on the cob with some mystery sauce(A) Apparently we were feeling corn-centric. I wasn’t drawn to the corn on the cob, because it’s not exactly«sharing appropriate». That would just be plain awkward. Because we were still expecting the mussels at this point, I figured I’d let my dining companion – the one who insisted on getting the corn in the first place – enjoy this dish solo. HOWEVER – you get three small pieces of «cob», if there is such an expression. This also happens to be special corn on the cob, because of the aforementioned mystery sauce. It’s not listed online, but it was reminiscent of something you’d find on sushi. Like a wasabi/soy blend. Surprising, creative, and seriously tasty.

I’d been meaning to go to Extra Fancy for quite some time, and finally made it. We picked a perfect day to go too because it was the first day their huge backyard was open(they call it their«side-yard»). They have a bunch of picnic tables, and a limited bar outside that serves slushy drinks. A few years ago, Extra Fancy sent some of their bartenders to serve cocktails on one of the Unilocal boat parties, and their St. Germain cocktail was amazing. They still had it on their menu, so definitely try that one! I actually went for a vodka cocktail(New Best Friend), which was pretty good. A tad sweet, but it had a kick to it. Their whiskey selection is also top notch, and reasonably priced. Had a few pours of those also. I talked to the manager/owner(?) for a while, and he was saying they’ll soon have food service outside once they figure out all the details. So Extra Fancy will only get better!

The service is incredibly slow and disappointing –__– 3 friends and I went there for brunch at noon on Sunday. The place was empty and we had to wait for 15 minutes for our drinks. I had to get up and go to the bar to check. The appetizer took 30 minutes. When they brought our food they completely forgot my friend’s 2 sides and she had to remind them. The sides arrived when we all finished our food and we returned them to the kitchen. The check and the change took forever to arrive as well –__– I had to go inside to ask for it again.(the place was still kind of empty) In the meantime the table next to us got mad and left because the service was slow. The waiter was nice and he apologized multiple times and the food was good. If you have 2 hours to waste and you don’t mind waiting this place might work for you :) The décor is great!

Extra Fancy IS extra fancy. The decór gives off a classy, vintage, shanty appeal. The bar area is very shabby chic. This might suggest more a more casual, average menu but this is not the case. The menu is definitely more upscale, thought out, and executed with finesse. We made reservations for brunch. Just because you have to for most places, otherwise you’re outta luck. Well, reservations weren’t needed! The place was pretty quiet and we had our pick of where to sit. They were playing old school hip hop loud enough to make the atmosphere feel like it was busier which we enjoyed. I had a salad with smoked salmon, 6 minute egg, and topped with everything crumble(as in everything bagel). It was so simple but so delicious. This is one of those dishes you think you’ll still be hungry after, but when it’s packed with deliciousness, nothing is to be missed. I also ordered a frozen dark and stormy. Yummmm!!! I love that it wasn’t overly sweet(my usual hesitation when ordering frozen drinks), fresh tasting and gingery, and still gave me a nice buzz. Not to mention the cute presentation. I didn’t get to indulge in the raw menu but I’ll be back for that. I haven’t yet had the opportunity to enjoy oysters with toppings but I’m looking forward to returning during dinner hours.

Okay I am not impressed by service normally, and this place really impressed me. 1) I made a reservation for 7:30 on a Saturday, super busy time/location/day. My friend was running late, and the hostess nicely asked me if I needed anything, told her I was waiting and wasn’t sure if my friend was here yet. She checked, and then seated me to wait for her, which was super cool and unexpected. I guess I am so used to rude hostesses that won’t seat you without a full party even when the place isn’t full, that this was such a nice surprise. 2) The server was so nice — asked if I wanted a beer while I waited, was SUPER pleasant and patient, again — I guess I’m so used to sassy servers that only care about money and not service, that this was a great experience. He was a sweetheart and made us feel at home. 3) The food was so good. The pimeto cheese app tasted like my partner’s father’s recipe, and it was so good. The burger tasted homemade, the beef melted in my mouth along with the toppings, and it reminded of a burger your best friend made you at a BBQ, but the best burger they’ve ever made. All in all, it felt like home. Great food, great vibe, great staff.

Lobster Poutine — let’s just say if I were on death row, I’ll take this as my last meal! Food like this shouldn’t exist, it’s just too good! Pair it with a Bloody Mary and Saturday afternoon brunch is the perfect way to start out your weekend. I would have loved a little more lobster, but wouldn’t we all? You can never have enough lobster! Pretty sure I could have chowed down on 2 helpings of this meal — it’s that amazing. Don’t miss out on giving this a try, who knows how long it will be around for.

I’ll just get this out the way. The food sucks. How can you charge $ 15 for a burger that is worst than a fast food chain. The side salad it came with was drenched, literally drenched in ranch or whatever white stuff they put on it. Lobster poutine was a scam. There wasn’t any lobster. It was just soggy french fries topped off with the kind of fake roe eggs you get with cheap sushi. Mussels were okay. Service on the other hand was attentive and great.

If this restaurant’s claim to fame was refilling water they’d get five stars. We walked in only to be told«just give me a minute» by three different staff members. But the place was empty. Finally we were sat and given menus. The waitress seemed to really only be concerned with people’s water cups, only coming over when ours were empty. We ordered the burger, red flannel hash, and the lobster bisque French fries. The burger was just ok seemed to have a lot of potential but just didn’t come together. The red flannel hash was weird, beets were overpowering and lacked any other flavor. There were bones in the pulled duck. Finally for the lobster bisque French fries. We read about these online and it was ultimately the reason why we decided to come here for brunch. Unfortunately again excellent concept but disappointing execution. We would have forgiven all of the other flavor faux pas if this dish would have exceeded our expectations. An overwhelming fishy taste, sad slimy chunks of Lobster. Dear Brooklyn Crab, please take this idea and make it better. P.S the frozen rose lemonade was bomb though! Slow table service Empty place Slow service Slow drink service Food came fast Food sucked Food really sucked Only got attention from The waitress if your water cup was empty Food was gross Bone in the duck hash

I had been here a few times for drinks and it is a cool chill spot with excellent cocktails and a great vibe. Very hip/southern feel to it, which is not overcrowded or over priced. I went this wknd with a few buddies to eat and we were really happy with everything. We were a bit late for our reservation(well I was on time but a couple of my dinner mates were late. boooo) and they were so patient and kind and held our res. We sat down and when i asked for coatcheck they chuckled but said i will hold your coats for you. That was great(I mean they are like a pretty small southern cocktail bar/resto so coatcheck was a cute idea of mine). We had some sort of poutine-esque lobster bisque disco french fry heavenly thing to start. Seriously amazing… crispy and soupy and cheesy and lobstery. I could have bathed in it. My friends had oysters and loved them. I had the small plate of fried chicked(genius idea) — very crispy, well battered and seasoned. A hit! My friends enjoyed other seafood and really everyone enjoyed their meals and we will for sure be back! Thanks Extra Fancy for starting our night off perfectly…

Waste of calories and $$. The $ 25 lobster roll sucked and was a complete ripoff. About half the size it should be, and tasted bland. Service was slow too and I was there at like 2AM and half the tables were empty. No excuse.

Wow. Heard a lot about this place but had no expectations going in, except, you know: «Williamsburg joint with money behind it,» but man, they crushed it and live up to the hype, at least when I was there(6 pm on a Sunday). Cheerful, competent-as-hell staff, imaginative, well-made drinks and cool clientele. Said out loud to the wife, «This is the kind of place I’d like to bring out-of-towners.» In a GOOD way. I mean it.

Perfect place to satisfy your seafood craving. Came here on a snowy Friday night and place had a great crowd. Not too crowded but not empty either. We ordered the grapefruit salad with aged goat cheese, 2 of each oyster and the lobster roll. The salad was good but not a fan of the cheese they used. I’m not going to describe what I thought it tasted like, because it would be unlady like. Typically a huge fan of goat cheese but this was not a very pleasant cheese. The lobster roll was absolutely amazing. Heaps of lobster on a buttery soft roll. Each bite reminded me of being on a beach in Montauk. The oysters were really fresh and delicious. Everything was a bit over priced overall. But very good drinks and food. A+ extra fancy.

Raw bar and cocktails are pricey but we split the clam bake for two(the whole reason I wanted to come here!) and it did not disappoint! It was excellent. I would definitely come again for it as it was tasty, hearty and a good value. The clams and lobster tail were definitely the best part. The cornbread and maple butter was an extra decadent delicious surprise that came with it! I only wish they had a better happy hour deal with the raw bar. I wanted to try the various toppings on the oysters but it was way too expensive. Overall a great experience.

My wife and I went there for the first time and liked absolutely nothing about the food or service. The portions were extremely small. The 18 dollar pasta dish looked like an appetizer and was salty. The only thing we enjoyed was the corn bread. I wouldn’t recommend this place to my friends.

The service was great. A special thanks to our patient server who dealt with our high maintenance dinner companion. The food was excellent. And the music playing was the best and coolest mix I’d ever heard played at a restaurant. Cool vibes all around! Great job, Extra Fancy. I’ll be back soon!

Amazing food and servers. My only problem is that there is no host stand. I had to fight through a big crowd to find someone, but when I did, they were amazing! This was my 2nd time there and I will definitely be going again. Ps: my friend visiting from London had a peanut allergy and the waiter /host /chefs were super-duper accommodating. We appreciated that greatly. Thank you to the team!

I came here last night for my boyfriends’ birthday on a last minute sort of thing. The food was really good, the atmosphere was good. The seafood prices were high($ 3.50 for an oyster) — which I may be spoiled from going to New England all of the time, but that felt high and hindered me from ordering more than just a few. The cornbread was AMAZING. And whatever they use for butter was extra amazing. I loved the fries, he liked them, but thought they were over seasoned(this is a common thing in our house, I like more on them and he likes less), so that is just a matter of preference. And the patty melt was as you can guess, wonderful. I want to go back drunk and eat the patty melt and fries. Drinks were also really expensive, I mean $ 14 a cocktail? When is this nonsense going to end. They were good, but that’s just a few dollars too many for me. SO: recap: food was REALLY good, seafood was good, but pricey. Drinks good, but pricey. Fuck it, just get all of the cornbread.

Burger was perfection in grilled cheese form with caramelized onions and sweet potato fries with a honey glaze. The place was semi crowded towards the bar area at 12am on a Friday. The bar had plenty of tables free for an excellent late night dinner. The service was great, our waitress was sweet. Music was the most amazing throw back mix of 90s hip hop and r&b. I cannot wait to return!

Honestly I wasn’t here too long… it was the last stop in what was a booze-filled night out in Brooklyn… but I do remember the staff was really nice, especially the bartender. He suggested oyster shots, which I was too scared to take but my GF did one and loved it. Beers were decently priced also.

My boyfriend took me here for V-day I was really excited; I have wanted to go here for a while. After that time we have gone back a couple times and I have also gone with my girlfriends. Food I tried and recommend: MUSTHAVE: Cornbread!!! 1. The Extra fancy Lobster Roll 2. New England Clam & Lobster Bake(it serves for 2– it’s a little expensive but worth it) 3. The Mussels 4. The Ceviche Pros: The staff is amazing and always pleasant. They always have great recommendations when I’m not sure between two options. The place is great for greats and also great for just a date night with my boyfriend I have came in just for the drinks by the bar The food is amazing and fresh! Cons: They don’t have someone at the door so it’s a little strange when you come in for the first time– but you get use to it. YOUHAVETOTRYTHEHOT fUDGE!!! AMAZING!!!

We came for a Sunday brunch and this place was remarkably empty. We had tried to go to another place, but it was too full. I’m glad we did end up here though because we had a very good meal! We were set on having oysters for brunch, so we ordered 4 of these, 2 clams, and snow crabs. It was displayed on a bed of ice with one of the snow crab legs dangling in the air. Kind of cool! We also decided to try their avocado toast dish, which was really great! You get a very healthy portion of avocado with ricotta cheese, I believe. Coffee was refilled multiple times, something of a rarity in NYC without being asked. Overall a great experience. Love the casual gastropub vibe. Prices were reasonable.

Stopped in because I could hear this place down the street. It should be called EXTRAFANCILYOVERPRICED. I ordered a Uni, which is an open faced sushi, and a Coronita and a shot of Silver Patron.(Love my Patron), Altogether, it was $ 15!!! The Uni came as one small piece, even though the barman said one roll??! For them maybe. The food was good, the drinks were good, only complain is the price. My friend got a patty melt and it was the size of a kids lunch sandwich. What a ripoff. Drinks are also overpriced, will not come here again, I’ll frequent a cheaper local spot.

This place looks cute as you walk in, except you walk in and just don’t know what to do. There was no hostess or even a friendly waiter who came to assist us. We waited around like two bozo’s waiting for a table to be told that there was a 10 minute wait. 14 min later we get seated at an empty table that was free the whole time with a reserved sign on it. The very slow waitress finally brought our food out and we forgot about the whole table waiting game. We ordered a dozen east coast oysters which were delicious and super fresh, a few beers, deviled eggs which I didn’t like bec of the crunchy mustard seeds in the smooth egg yolk, bread-2 $ surcharge by the way, mussels which were not bad, very large so the texture was a bit funny in the start and friend chicken that would have been better if the crust was not burnt off. All in all we decided that if we would return, it would be for beer and oysters only.

Man oh man oh man! Came here last night with my best friend and we are some true seafood lovers. You know what gets me about this place… the décor won’t make you think it’s truly«extra fancy», but the skills the bartenders use to concoct a drink and the cooks use to create/present their meals is OFFTHEWALL. It is definitely extra fancy. You read the items on the menu and it’s a crazy description of what you may usually know as the regular«fish and chips» or «broccoli and cheese». Boy oh boy the description has it all down to the T though. The flavors of the food is simply amazing and definitely unique. I wasn’t too hungry so I only had oysters(which still was deliciously fresh and half price). My best friend ordered a broccoli side which was SOOOOO good I was so close to requesting a copy of the recipe. She also ordered a fish dish which came with collard greens and the sauce for that dish alone I could just put in a glass and drink it! All in all I’m glad I decided to get this out of my bookmarks and actually visit. The staff is young and friendly(and super duper hot and attractive might make you sweat). The restaurant is clean and comfortable. I’ll definitely be coming back to tackle other items off the menu because this visit alone kept me guessing…

Good god. This is hands down the best bar/restaurant I’ve been to in recent memory. Extra Fancy is a fun name but they mean business. You get 90’s pop blasting throughout the space, a disco ball illuminating the bar, fantastic cocktails, and incredible seafood options. It’s like high end drinks and food meet a casual, funky hang out. Food: You can’t go wrong with anything but the Chef’s tasting menu is a great option for someone who can’t decide. There’s cornbread, lobster rolls, soft shell crab sandwiches, NY burrata, tartare with bone marrow and truffle, Brussels sprouts, clams, mussels, seafood Johhny cakes, and so much more. There’s a lot of seafood but enough variety that if you don’t like seafood you can still find a few gems to order. Highly recommend. If I lived nearby I’d find myself here entirely too often.

Fell in love! The bartenders, cocktails, and food were all awesome here. My friend and I got two specialty cocktails(it was a while ago– don’t remember the names!) that were both awesome and came with huge whiskey ice cube spheres. The best part was the meat plate we ordered– big enough for two to share and the marrow was some of the best I’ve had. The bartenders were friendly, fun, and took their time, and the servers had the same friendly and professional demeanor. Overall, whether you want to eat or drink, you’re in for a great time here!
