Express Line Moving

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! They gave me a quote for my move, and then charge me double! This company is the biggest scam!!! If I could give them zero stars I would. I should have checked the Unilocal reviews prior to booking them!

This is a bait and switch operation. We were told they had availability for a large move from Long Beach to Buffalo on a certain date for $ 5200. My husband went through all of the details of the move, down to fuel charges and tolls before we received this quote.
When we called to confirm, they no longer had availability on that date, but were available the next day. All of a sudden the price went up to $ 8500 — for the exact same move. We started out speaking with a very nice woman, Angie, (bait) then ended up with a pushy man, Jerry. Buyer beware! Luckily we dodged this bullet.
Follow-​up: After turning down the $ 8500 quote, Angie contacted us and advised they had adjusted the quote down to $ 7200 (still $ 2000 above the original quote). No thank you.

If I could give them zero stars I would. I don’t even know where to begin. Broadly their strategy is to over-​promise and then incrementally disappoint just enough at each step that you don’t pull the plug — until you no longer have the power to pull the plug, at which point their tactics swiftly shift to active brazen harassment.
If you have read any of my previous reviews you know I’m the one-​line type… But in this case? Get, set, go.
My building has specific times that the service elevator can be booked for and they are fairly strict about it. I had two options — 7−10a. Or noon to 2p. Per express line’s request, I booked the early morning slot (7−10a), and confirmed over 3 different times (over 3 different days, including the day before with the sales rep AND the dispatcher) that they would be there on time to pack and move by 10am as else we would have to waste two hours waiting. Want to guess what they did? Assured me multiple times that the guys would be there by 730 (830am worst case madam, we assure you). And then the next day? Not a single person took my call till 9am. Finally got a call from the driver saying he is «only» 10 mins away. When I quizzed him on his exact whereabouts it became plenty clear he is atleast 30 min away. As an aside — I asked him when he left the warehouse. Pat came the reply — 7am madam. This has to be the first time in the history of manhattan that a Brooklyn-​midtown commute took over 2.5 hours. Heck I have been to the airport, no less, on the worst of days. I know what bad days look like in Manhattan. Guy says «you know how bad the traffic is» — well, if it is that bad (in his opinion) and that obvious that it is that bad, why didn’t he leave earlier?
Then. Guy comes and evaluates everything. And says the estimate you were given looks broadly right, at worst I will take an hour more (taking my bill from $ 800 to $ 900, not a big deal and so I say that’s fine of course. Would have been ok if it got to $ 1100 even, which is btw what the «best» services quoted me albeit they later turned out to be unavailable at the specific time and I was left with no option than to use express line). Of course I had to beg the people (and pay my way) through then using the elevator at a time we didn’t officially have it.
Then? The guy had no boxes for what he was supposed to help me pack (and had already been told about — heck it was in my invoice /​estimate!). And I personally have to run around trying to source cartons from shops around my buildings.
Unquestionable that they used cheap soiled cloth to wrap my belongings, nothing I would be ok with had i owned even mildly good furniture. But what did work me up was using the dirty soiled hands to pack my work clothes! When I saw this happening I literally had to ask him to stop and packed it all myself.
Then, comes the part where he takes my stuff up to another city. At this point I don’t trust the guy at all. We both chart out the time on gps /​maps; it shows 3hr 50min, guys says he has done it several times before and based on that he says he will take 4hrs 30 mins. I say sure no problem, 5 hrs is ok too! I check the traffic multiple times throughout the day — and it’s fine. And. He takes 7 hours to get there. Wow. I call the sales rep and the same guy that assured me it would take 4hrs (which is also the number he put down in my estimate) now tells me — «don’t you know minivans take 2x the time of normal cars?» — I say «umm well if you knew that and it was so obvious why didn’t you out that in the estimate» — he says «umm I told you» (NO, he didn’t).
Anyyyyway. Coming down to the end of this exhausting day — the guys quotes me $ 1500. That is 2x of his initial quote. Really, how many people get their estimates wrong by 100%??
At this point I am feeling totally fleeced. Even the top notch services with 5 stars (and 5 star service to match) were quoting a lower flat rate. So I call the customer rep — Alon (his name) — and walk him through my day. He doesn’t respond with empathy, instead says if I don’t pay in cash (we had previously agreed on using a card when I made the booking) right now (with what I consider an insignificant discount) they will confiscate all my belongings and take them to a warehouse and charge me $ 100+ daily for it. Heard of harassment anyone? Tired of it all (and because I needed my stuff (see how much worse their behavior gets once they are the ones wielding power?)) I just gave in and called it a day.
I think express line has no job being in this business, maybe they should try their hand at something else? Trickery school? Harassment and abuse school?
Wanna join me in a class action lawsuit anyone?

Most importantly, they don’t use Square and that’s a huge problem. If you pay by credit card, you’re writing your card number, expiration date and code on a paper document. Not cool. Now … on to the other stuff:
The three guys who picked up my items showed up an hour early. Other than that they were extremely efficient. Once they assessed what needed packing and wrapping, they went to the truck for boxes and tape, then returned like a swarm of locusts. I turned my back for a few moments to sign some paperwork and next thing I knew my entire living room was bare. They cleaned out my one-​bedroom Brooklyn apartment in less than an hour.
Jerry, the driver/​mover who delivered my items was awesome. He hadn’t been informed that the elevator in my building was not yet working but he took on the stairs like a champ. A real pro, that guy.
The shortcomings were mostly on the customer service side. They told me they’d call when they knew my items would be delivered; they didn’t. They said the driver would give me 24-​hours notice before delivery; it was more like 10 hours. When the driver told me the balance due at delivery had to be cash, it was the first time I’d heard it. When I disputed a $ 30 discrepancy it took them a week to figure it out.
An interstate move is tough and it’s not an exact science, but I couldn’t help but wonder if my experience could’ve been better.

Extremely disappointed. Paid double of the initial quote provided to me. They hook you with a low cost and rip you off in the end. We used them for packing and moving. The cost of packing material they charge is day time robbery. They under quote all material costs to get your business initially and then just add all kinds of things in the end. In my case they charged me 4 times the material cost that they initially quoted!!. I was on the phone with the company for long time and finally they accepted and took some charges off the bill. Also, issues with parking the truck was never mentioned to me, they showed up the morning and said that they needed another man to sit in the truck. Overall just full of surprises which is never a good thing. They need to be more upfront with costs, since they are the «professionals» they need to be doing a better job of estimating.

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I thought it best to warn anyone thinking about using Express Line Moving. I have moved several times with other companies and have never had such a terrible experience. First of all, they will tell you whatever you want to hear to upcharge you and get as much money as possible (like saying they will give you your own truck that will be delivered a certain day) but unfortunately they do not deliver on their promises. I moved from NYC to San Francisco and waited in SF for 3 extra days paying for a hotel room the whole time and paid extra to change my flight twice because they were much later on the delivery than they said they would be. The move cost me thousands of dollars more than it should have. Do not trust their estimates, and expect all promises to be broken. I learned the hard way!
In response to Allen’s post: I appreciate your comment, but my things WERE NOT delivered in a three day window. They were delivered in the fourth day, which is also the day I had to leave the country and was unable to further change my plans. Truly bad service even after the move was complete.

My friend who used them before recommended them as she had an easy smooth experience. I looked up the reviews and was very skeptical, but she assured me her experience was top notch.
So I used them for my move from Brooklyn to downtown Manhattan. I called & spoke with nick to get an estimate for my stuff, which was pretty simple. I took pictures of everything to ensure I had proof of quality of my things.
Thankfully I didn’t have to use those pictures as everything came in perfect condition. But wait let’s back track, the actual move was stress free. they came, took my things carefully, efficiently and we’re very professional about the whole thing.
I guess they’ve taken those negative reviews to heart! I would recommend if you are looking for inexpensive reliable movers

Thank you guys for making our move so much less stressful. We set up the whole move with Eddie– he was great– as soon as I input my info on
my phone rang nonstop. Some really sketchy companies got in touch with us so I’m so happy we went with Express Line. The team that came to pack us up in NYC were amazing! Thank you Adam, Thomas and Junior! Everything arrived in Raleigh in one piece– a few things got scuffed up but nothing major– we were happy with the experience and the price was super reasonable compared to some of the other quotes we got.

We used Express Line Moving for our local move. I got a phone call from Nick, who gave me an initial estimate. I called him and gave him a detailed list of the items. After that I received an email, with an estimate close to the first one. We agreed to use their services as the price was below other companies I had contacted.
After a few days, I called them to get a confirmation. Nick was not around, so a lady sent me an email. The email had a quote which was $ 350 more than what we had agreed upon. I asked her what is that about, she said Nick will call me and talk to me about it. Never got a phone call from him about it, instead I get a phone call from Israel who is the dispatcher. This was done 2 weeks prior to my move, so finding other movers will be hard. He was calling to confirm the address for source and destination. Turns out Nick had noted them incorrectly and had to be fixed. I asked him about the price mismatch. He said eventually your price will depend on the amount of time it takes and such. Based on the items he is seeing there, it looked like it will take less.
Day of the the move comes and the movers showed up on time. They moved the items carefully and nothing was broken. The movers did a great job. No complains about what they did.
Problem is Express Line Moving won’t give you an honest quote. They altered the quote at a time when it was almost difficult to get new movers. I faced two options (1) delaying my move, which wasn’t feasible because of agreement with house owner (2) Scramble to find new movers at a short notice. I went ahead with Express Line as I was told the move would take less time. Won’t hire them again.
So my suggestion is, get a quote from them and confirm everything 15 times, so it is the same price. The movers did great, but the front office people are not trustworthy.

In the past 7 years we’ve moved from LA to Austin, Austin back to LA, LA to NYC, and now NYC to Austin. We’ve also moved within LA 2 times. This was, start to finish, the worst experience we’ve ever had.
They gave an estimate that was low then packed our goods and claimed we had added things, when we hadn’t. What do you do when all your stuff is packed in a truck? Literally they said we had added fifteen boxes in a closet, that we had 2 couches instead of one… none of this was accurate. I was able to get them to finally back off and stick with their original price… then our things showed up.
We took over fifty pictures: Our clothes, on hangers, were dumped in wardrobe boxes with no metal bar even present for hanging them, with boxes of old coins tossed in, the box broken, coins everywhere in my clothes. Dozens of dishes were destroyed. We lost multiple items of furniture. Our children’s bedroom rug, when unrolled, was covered in dirt and what looked like oil — we don’t even know how this could have happened?
This was the most upsetting move we’ve ever had and we’ve moved a lot and lost things — which is sadly always a part of moving. But this move felt like being personally attacked. Our goods were just utterly disregarded. They came in, threw whatever they could in boxes and threw them on a truck and nearly everything was damaged.
From start to finish I cannot give a lower review of my experience.

Saw off your own hand before calling them. You’ll save yourself, and all the things that the people you love have ever given you.
My antique bed frame is in splinters, grandmother’s crystal crushed, my recently deceased father’s original artwork is flattened, custom designed chairs are chipped. I keep posting pictures of this, and they keep deleting them.
I have never in my life dealt with this abject disrespect. Don’t be a woman, either. The foreman will make a pass at you and the manager Jerry will call you sweetheart.
If you are somehow possessed by the devil enough to hire them, at least cancel your credit card after delivery or else they’ll keep charging you over, and over, and over again.
Oh, and hire a lawyer with big teeth.

Here is an update to what I was offered for my flat screen that was dropped, cracked & rendered useless ~ I was offered $ 13.50 and $ 0 for the glass that they would not even consider as I had no photos of it. (Photos of a glass that was not supposed to disappear, that’s genius!)
Needless to say, they can keep the $ 13.50…they need it way more than I do. What a joke.
Lesson learned ~ either grab some buddies and move yourself with a U-​Haul or shop around and DEFINITELY make your own inquiry about moving insurance.

I wish I had read all this reviews before making the decision of going with this company. I had almost every problem that all guys posted.
I talked to Nick, very nice guys behind the phone. Once he has your business, he never responds an email or take your call. The operator is such unprofessional that she says «just a moment I’ll connect you» and the says he is a meeting or his not in the office.
I’ve sent pictures of everything I wanted to take from Philly to Miami. One by one and said to Nick I didn’t want any surprises. I ended up paying 2.5 (honestly) more and leaving back most of my furnitures. I knew I was going to pay extra, but not this amount and again, no taking all my stuff. Jerry’s answer was you should have taken everything (of course paying more)!
The good thing is they got to Miami before schedule, the bad thing not being in Miami myself. I told them I could be there on Thursday, they arrived on Wednesday. After talking to Jerry I told him I could receive things in Friday. He said OK, but was going to charge my $ 500 for waiting one day!!! WTF!!! Then I looked at the papers I signed and they said it could be delivered from ⁰⁶⁄₁₆ to ⁰⁷⁄₁₆. I guess the guy filled up after I signed because when I spoke with them through the phone with Nick I told him no earlier then Thursday ⁰⁶⁄₁₉. So they are saying that they waited for me 3 days!!! From the 16^th to the 19^th! What about that!
I waited for the truck driver all Friday and from 11am he said he was on his way. He called me at 2pm saying he was 20 minutes away, he then called at 4pm saying the stuck had problems he was not going to make if, talk to the manager.
Jerry called me started shouting like a maniac that this was my fault that they’ve been here since Wednesday and that they were going to deliver on Monday or Tuesday. My question is, why did the driver say something that he couldn’t deliver. How can he be 20 minutes away and then the truck broke down?!
I’ve been paying hotel for 3 nights because of this company. I have a pregnant wife and a 10month baby boy. I’m paying rent for an empty apartment. I can’t have my baby and my wife sleeping on the floor.
Today is Monday, Jerry said he was going to call during the weekend to schedule delivery Monday. I’ve tried calling and texting he just hangs up. So we are all at the mercy of this company.
I’m not worried about be, but is my pregnant wife and my baby which I am concerned of. This guys they only care about the money and think that speaking louder makes them correct.
I’m hoping this has a happy ending today and my stuff gets delivered. Or at least a mattress and and the crib. Just received a call from Jerry saying it will be delivered tomorrow Tuesday. One more day of hotel. How’s that? Don’t you just hated when people can’t see their wrong doing and try to act right upon it?

If you contact this company use a throwaway email address and a blockable phone number. Their sales representative are super-​aggressive and will harass you even after you tell them you’ve found another company. The representative I spoke to, Nick called me every 15 minutes for a full day and sent me a dozen emails. Even after I told him I was going with another company he continues to blow up my phone and send me emails. The last one he sent just said «call me when your mover doesn’t show up» WTF? These people are pyscho.

Usually moving companies have a bad reputation in general so I was pleasantly surprised with these guys. They quoted me a fair price for my move from the East Coast to the West Coast and at the last minute (the truck was scheduled to show up later that day) when I decided to take a lot more stuff than what I had initially told them, they were very accommodating and quoted me a reasonable cost to move the additional items. The driver was courteous, my stuff got there a day early, and in good shape. I would definitely use them again if needed.

Called to inquire about their groupon. Went from $ 95 groupon to $ 500 total, and then they would graciously take the $ 95 discount from the final price. Requested that the listed groupon value of $ 195 be discounted from the $ 500, and the guy yelled at me because evidently I’m the one who doesn’t know how groupon works.
I always expect to pay more after purchasing a groupon. I don’t expect to get yelled at when I’m trying to purchase a service from you.

My girlfriend saw that they had a groupon for moving. $ 100 for 2 movers and a van. Sweet, right? She called this morning and was greeted by one of the rudest men. She was told that since there’s a half flight of steps, they would not honor the groupon. She asked if she could have a refund, and he politely explained (it was not polite) that it wasn’t his problem, contact groupon. He then started reading quotes for 4 movers. As if, she or I would like to do business with them at this point. Judging from their other reviews, this company is not interested in doing business. Look elsewhere.

These ppl are scam artist!!! They tell you one thing and do another! This is my second post looks like they erased my other, I got charged twice as much and only sent 2 men when I was suppose to get three Allen and Sean are no good. Please do not use this moving company! Trust me you will be sorry!

SCAM ARTISTS CENTRAL!! STAY CLEAR!!! I WAS CHARGED 500 $ FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF OF WORK. AS IF THAT ISN’T EYE POPPING ENOUGH, THEY ACTUALLY HAD THE NERVE TO TRY TO CHARGE MORE. The whole scam started when I filled out a moving price quote online with my information. Unfortunately for me Express Line was one of the companys that called me. I was told on the phone that they would send three guys and a truck for 99 $ an hour. And no I did not mishear, those were the man’s exact words. Not only that but I was told they have a warehouse in Jericho, NY which is more convenient since It was a long island based move. So long story short, they showed up at 1030 and were done with the entire move by 1200. Jerry the so called manager attempted to charge me 568 $ plus a five percent surcharge for use of a credit card. He then made it seem like he was doing me a favor by «only» charging me 500 $. So the essence of the scam comes down to three parts… A) It is 125 $ for a three man crew not 99 $ as I was told. The 99 $ rate is for a two man move. So I was flat out lied to. B) it is a minimum three hour charge even though the whole move with travel took half that. Jerry claimed that no company would ever move without such a minimum charge meanwhile another company had already told me they charged for two hours. If only I had gone with them. C) They charged a 150 $ travel charge from Brooklyn even though I was told Jericho as a selling point. So all in all the outcome: I got scammed. Make sure you don’t!!!

Had to move some stuff from NY to LV called this company up and spoke to Jerry came over and looked at what I needed shipped. Agreed on a booking a few days later the crew came and started packing. They were fairly quick and came with sufficient blankets and other packing materials. A week later truck got to vegas which was a two days late they told me due to the bad weather… I was in no hurry so it wasn’t a big deal… Overall a decent experience would use them again if I had to.
