Elite Event: Happy Holidays at Hunter’s

Woke up the next morning with a slight hangover, a testament to what a great party we had at Hunter’s.
Warm atmosphere. Attentive bartenders. At the bar, there was an option for either hot or cold cocktails. I enjoyed the Ginny Weasley more than the warm Sweeney Todd but I probably drank both equally.
They had a nice cheese & hors d’œuvre table. Snacks kept coming. My favorite were the beef sliders at the end.
Great end of a year party.

Sorry it took long to finally write a review but I was very busy this week, bringing in the holiday cheer. Which means I was drinking everyday.
The elite event at Hunter’s was the perfect way to celebrate my first full year of being elite.
Peter D will always mention whether or not you should grab a bite before hand or not. On this occasion he said you should, however I’m glad my plan of action was to eat afterwards. Food galore! It didn’t stop until 9, at which point the last dish was placed on a table only to be devoured by Deoroop and Peter himself. He’s so sneaky!
What did they have?
I want chicken, I want liver. Hunters, Hunters please deliver! That chicken liver was the bomb diggity. And people were scared to try it. Didn’t stop me from making a nice sandwich. They had more on the spread too. Fine sliced cured meats, an array of cheeses, olives. Deliciousness all over the place. And on the side, an awesome cookie.
Then there was the food that they brought out. The sliders were amazing, juicy and flavorful. The crab cakes were phenomenal. I see many crab cakes these days that are just small balls of crab. These were big giant lumps with plenty of crab. The goat cheese crostini was so good, even Thomas enjoyed it. The flatbread with sweet potato and kale was great, but not great enough for me to join Deoroop and Peter at the end of the night after my stomach was filled passed consumption levels.
The Sweeney Todd was exactly what a cold Monday night needed. If you haven’t been here before their drinks are amazing and always have some clever name or gimmick behind them. Bartender Zach (Zack? Zac? Zak? Who knows?) didn’t slow down for a second and kept on trucking throughout the event. He really took the time and effort to make great drinks yet never looked phased or rattled by the large flow of people trying to grab a cocktail. By the end the mixers ran out so he was happy to make any whiskey or gin based drink.
In the end, it was a terrific event and I can’t say I was surprised based upon my previous experiences at Hunter’s. Big thanks to the staff at Hunter’s, for going the extra distance and making some great grub. And to his Grace Peter D another great event, I can’t wait till 2014!

Thanks Peter for a really great party. It was great to see so many of my Unilocal elite friends again. It was very chilly outside so the Sweeny Todd seemed was good idea. It was tasty initially though and then got old fast for me.
I would have preferred the cold drink, but the bar seemed overwhelmed by the number of people. The event was overall fantastic and I liked the area.

Aww, last 2013 Unilocal Event.
Loved this event especially. On the few times I’ve walked around Cobble Hill, I’ve always wanted to go to Hunter’s, so I was especially happy.
Food was phenom. Those delicious crab cakes were the size of oranges, and the Sweeney Todds were the perfect companion.
Thank you Peter for always being a delight and hosting this fantastic event. Thanks to the Hunter’s team for a great time, the sous chef (sorry, don’t remember his name) was really insightful about the background of Hunter’s and what not. Can’t wait to come back.

I showed up late so missed most of the food, but I did have the pork belly flatbread was delicious!
I also had my fair share of Sweeney Todd’s. They kept me nice and warm, and nice and drunk.
Thanks to Hunter’s and Unilocal for a great event to end the year on!

I finally made it out to an Elite Event – and bonus for me, it was held at a restaurant I have on my To-​Visit list!
Being a newbie to the Elite Events, I warmed up to some more seasoned Elites and had a great time. Since gin is my drink of choice I stuck with the Ginny Weasley (great name). It was very refreshing. The bartenders were really working it and made sure everyone waiting left with a drink in hand.
The food was great as well – I really enjoyed the giant crabcakes and the samples of Hunter’s sliders. The goat cheese crostini was another hint, really loved those flavors. I can’t wait to come back to Hunter’s for the full experience. Thanks to all that made it happen!

Au revoir 2013 year of Unilocal Elite events, we’ll remember you fondly! Hunter’s was a great spot to wrap up at. Cobble Hill seems to be chock full of these cozy bars/​restaurants and its always nice to get a personalized introduction to one. The bar staff were working magic whipping up those Ginny Weasley’s and Sweeney Todd’s. Every time I looked over they seemed to be in the weeds, and yet they were cranking out drinks like men possessed. I didn’t really have any of the snackies, but I heard good things about them :)
Most importantly all my Unilocal favorites were present, and I even got to catch up with some folks I’ve never met/​met only once before! Like a worn leather glove (better than comparing to an old shoe, right Peter?), this last Unilocal Elite event of the year felt familiar and comforting. And now that all that warm fuzzy business is over we can all get back to our regularly scheduled programming– worrying about Unilocal Elite squad 2014!

Last event of the year (and what a great year it was!)! Brooklyn does it in style!
Of course Peter knows how to throw good party… Hunters was the perfect place for celebrations.
I was deep frozen walking into Hunters — but was thawed right away by warm atmosphere and, of course, Sweeney Todd — piping hot, spicy and perfectly sweet (yes, a drink, you dirty minds, not a bartender! Well, bartenders were awesome too).

Food was absolutely lip-​smacking delish!!! Pork belly & sweet potatoes, goat cheese bites, and crabcake balls to die for! Chartecurie board was a nice setup too.
Peter, and everybody who made this happen — thank you from the bottom of my heart… er… belly.

When you know Peter D. is going to host the last Elite event of the year, he’s going make sure 2013 goes out in style.
Hunter’s is a quaint little restaurant on the border of Cobble/​Boerum Hill. However, on this chilly evening, it was rammed to capacity with merry little Unilocalers all hoping to warm their hearts and soul with soothing, hot Sweeney Todd’s. For those who weren’t fond of OYO wheat whiskey (very smooth by the way) coupled with blood orange liqueur, cloves and honey, there was the Ginny Weasley. A lovely infusion of Tub Gun, fresh grapefruit and thyme. So refreshing, I literally had to order 4 at once. Kudos to the lone and courageous bartender Zach (and Greg who popped in every so often). He was able to slake the thirst of over 75 Unilocalers. Although it was very stressful at times, he did an awesome job.
There were so many people at this event but I did get to sample some of the bites that were floating around once I made it past the bar.
Flat bread topped with cured pork, sweet potato and kale. This combination sounded very peculiar but it was nothing short of a tiny orgasm in my mouth. The pork was very tender and juicy. When paired with the sweet potato, it was surely a delicious treat.
The goat cheese, leek and mushroom crostini. Anything with cheese is already a winner in my book but unfortunately, one taste of that spread was not enough. Lucky enough to have a portion of a crab cake landing in my hands by some divine intervention, it was one of the things I remember the most (apart from all the shots of OYO whiskey). The interior filling was very fresh, who doesn’t love a good, fried, gargantuan crab cake. The only way it should be.

For the record, whenever Peter D. is present, there will be whiskey. AND, when there is whiskey, there will be SHOTS! My first year part of the 2013 Elite crew, #throwitup#yelplyfe. Looking forward to the future :-)

Love the warm cozy décor at Hunter’s. The food was plentiful, what with the spread of meats, cheeses and veggies in the back and the staff coming around with trays of food. I got to try the sliders, goat cheese on crostini, and a ginormous crab cake! All very good. Enjoyed the hot and cold drinks. The Ginny Weasley tasted better to me but the Sweeney Todd was nice for the chilly evening. Props to the bartenders for working so hard — they were getting swamped all night!
Great hanging with all the Unilocalers. However, I’m simply devastated that some of you did not know the references to the drinks. Come on people!

Hey baby, it’s cold outside. Have a warm whiskey drink (the «Sweeney Todd»). Sure, don’t mind if I do. I stuck to that, but heard good things about the gin drink from fellow Unilocalers. There was a nice spread of meats, cheeses, bread, olives and cornichons set up in the back and the food that was passed around was tasty (though, I only sampled the crostini with goat cheese pesto).
A very nice way to close out another year. Thank you again to Peter and the staff at Hunter’s. Cheers, everyone!

I had taken the day off of work to play hooky and go on a long planned out epic borough crawl of places scattered across New York. But there was still no way in hell I was missing the last Unilocal Event of the year of my borough! Unilocal and BK wuv.
Hunter’s is a really fantastic place though. I’ve been here before and I will be back because their 3-​cheese macaroni is OUT OF THIS WORLD and pretty much all of their Hunter themed geek cocktails that are so carefully crafted and worth the wait for.
I enjoyed the event quite a lot. There was a moment after imbibing in a delicious warm Sweeney Todd that I wanted to check out the back room to see what foods were on display and HOLY SMOKES. It looked like a Unilocal slaughtering house. It was pretty funny and I really wish I had a camera on me. But it was quickly cleaned up by the awesome staff and I found some tasty chopped chicken liver or pâté w/​bread, an amazing and HUGE crab cake, and those pork belly and sweet potato flat breads were absolutely mouth-​wateringly decadent. Then near the ending they came around with hunks of their juicy angus burger with Vermont cheddar and jalapeño aioli on brioche.
Overall, good fun and great night. Wonderful to see some Unilocal faces I haven’t seen in awhile! Also, ridiculously happy that Steph P. found me a Unilocal bandana that I may have secretly wanted for months. Thanks so much Peter D. for an awesome event and happy holidays to Unilocal

I call it get together because I was rubbing more cheeks than massage parlor.
Spacing was a bit tight but the drinks was very nice.
Sweeney Todd apple spice,
And even a butcher shop across the street in sight,
Warmed the tummy from the chilly winter bites.
I have no clue why I just went into a rhyme.
Ginny Weasley is too potter even for Harry himself,
A bit too much flowery tasting for my liking,
A few of these will make you hollar and yell,
I think I don’t like the cucumber spiking.
The bartenders were hustling all night,
as were the food seemingly traveling by flight,
they were all yum except for that brittle bread by the back table across from the kitchen that is something I could have just made at home.
Alright.
Did I mention the names of the drinks were oh so cheeky?
Made a bit at ease more like speaking quite busy.
Met some new Unilocalers and rekindled with some familiar ones.
Even eyed some cute girls that came all done.
Best of all?
The F train single commute back home.
Win.

And so another awesome Unilocal year must come to an end. Mixed feelings of sadness and joy[1].
I really enjoyed this event: the place was cozy and warm, food and drinks plentiful, and the staff nothing short of amazing.
I’m not a big fan of warm drinks, so I stuck to the Ginny Weasley, which featured Tub Gin and OYO Wheat Whiskey. It was as tasty as it was refreshing. Also, a big shout out to Zach, the incredible bartender that faced all alone a hundred or so thirsty Unilocalers and relentlessly provided drinks to everybody, always with a smile on his face. seriously, man: you’re awesome!
Food was nothing short of great: the jumbo sized crab cakes were perfectly crispy on the outside, and wonderfully moist on the inside. The sliders were perfectly medium-​rare, and the crostini plentiful (I particularly enjoyed the ones with goat cheese, leek, and mushrooms). Perhaps the most interesting dish of the evening was the flatbread with pork belly, kale, and sweet potato purée’. I also liked the fact that there were coldcuts, cheese, cornichons, and crostini at the back, which allowed everybody to enjoy the food without having to stalk the waitstaff by the kitchen door.
Finally, it was great to see some Unilocal friends I’ve known since I first joined Unilocal back in 2009, whom I haven’t seen way way too long. I’m talking to you Lisa, Nina, Sean, Claire, and James.

Hunters is a great place to hang out with enough room for us hungry Unilocalers. Yay for catering to everyone. I ate my weight in brie, bread and carrots… and those pieces of bread with goat cheese on them. Yum!
My stomach really got full from those delicious crab cakes… what was the topper? Did it have horseradish in it? Omg, yum!!!
The drinks were sooooo good as well. First time, but not last time here!

Last Brooklyn Unilocal Elite event of 2013 and it’s the HOLIDAY PARTY! What a way to go out with a bang! Thanks for throwing this together Peter D.
Hunter’s was a great venue for an elite get-​together. There were two drinks to choose from, one hot and one cold. The cold one was nice and refreshing (aka the Ginny Weasely). The hot one kept you nice and toasty (aka the Sweeney Todd).
It was great to catch up with old friends I hadn’t seen in a while and to make new friends as always at elite events. There were drinks to quench our thirst and food being passed around. There was also a cheese and meat platter. I tried the crab cakes, which were by far. my favorite… amazing delicious, crunchy and very fresh (lots of crab). The sliders were pretty good too. The mushroom crostini was surprisingly delicious. There was also a kale, sweet potato, pork belly flatbread which wasn’t too bad, but I couldn’t really taste the pork belly.
Props to the staff of Hunter’s for running such a smooth show… and the awesome end of the night «gifts» given out in little chinese take out boxes (inside were awesome delicious cookies).

I really enjoyed tonight’s festivities. Spending time with Brooklyn’s finest Elites. The awesome and welcoming venue and especially the nice, and hot, Sweeney Todd. The drink really hit the spot, coming in from the frigid cold. Warmed you right up.
I was lucky enough to come early and snag a mounted deer head. Which was actually 3D printed by a Makerbot. I can finally say that I own something 3D printed. I was told that the creator of the Makerbot goes to Hunter’s very often. Made these especially for them. Now I have a little memento from tonight event on my desk at work now.
The food was really tasty and seemed to never end. All I can say is that the crab cakes were delicious. They came out nice, hot and fresh from the fryer. I’m drooling just thinking about them.
It was great seeing all my fellow Elites. I want to thank Peter D, Chef Angelo, Zach the awesome bartender and the whole staff of Hunter’s for a great event. I don’t come to this area of Brooklyn often. I may have to change that since coming here.

I loved that Peter introduced me to Chef Angelo at the beginning of the night. It was nice to have some time to chat with him and bartender Zach before the onslaught of Unilocalers. Also, Zach is quite attentive — I quizzed him on the addition to my name tag and he got it right!
As for the drinks, I had the Ginny Weasley first because I can never turn down a drink with grapefruit. It was deliciously refreshing and if I closed my eyes, I could’ve imagined drinking this on a beach somewhere. I also got to try the Sweeney Todd, which was perfect to warm up with, especially considering the temps outside. Glad I made the decision to double-​fist that one when I ordered it! Props to Zach (and Greg) for slinging dranks for us thirsty folks. Also, thanks to Adam #1 and Adam #2 for bringing the Tub Gin and OYO Wheat Whiskey!
As for the food, I had a nibble from the charcuterie board when I first got there, but had somehow missed all the passed food. It wasn’t until the end of the night that I got to try the Hunter’s burger, the pork belly, sweet potato & kale flatbread and the crabcake (I shared with someone that I hadn’t even met! Hi hi!). Everything was quite delicious. I really like this part of Brooklyn, so I can’t wait to come back and try Hunter’s for dinner or brunch soon.
It was great to see so many fellow Elites — lots of new faces and also quite a few OGs as well!
Thanks again to Peter D, Chef Angelo, Zach, Greg, Jess, the two Adams and the awesome staff at Hunter’s. It was a perfect holiday party!
