I live around the corner from this place. Went in once. 8 bucks for a piece of cheese on a roll. You have got to be kidding me.

Very nice place. They have a vast assortment off cheese and beer. Had a green apple sandwich with Brie cheese on some kind of bread and it was super tasty. Little pricy.

I was happy that we got a decent cheese shop in the neighborhood when it opened and the selection is good. I like the lady who owns it(sorry, I have a small complaint: the guy with the long grey hair seems to hate his life and has gotten increasingly annoying over time).

They have great meats, cheeses and other tasty treats. The real gem for me is the sandwiches. To me, these are the best sandwiches in Brooklyn. They are simple, not overloaded with ingredients and sauces but everything they use is top notch. I can’t say enough good things about this place. I could eat these sandwiches everyday and some weeks I do!

Great local shop with a top-notch selection. A go-to for specialty items or excellent cheese and beer, but also some staples like milk and eggs which make this a great pop-in, too.

We stopped into Eastern District to check out their cheese selection and to buy a baguette. They have an awesome selection of craft beers that I had never even seen before. They prices of everything were pretty high, and we left with only a very pricey baguette.

Great spot. Beer, cheese, cured meats, growlers and other random quality shit you can’t find elsewhere. Add some superior and friendly service and said products become that much better and the high prices become easily tolerable. Pretty much a lock that anything purchased here will satisfy all five senses. Yup even sound when you crack open a fine craft brew.

I don’t care if the people who work here are nice or not. I don’t go there to make friends. I go there to get the best meats and cheeses. Seriously, it’s on another level. You will impress all of your party guests with anything you buy here. They only sell the very best of everything and are serious about what they do. The shop has a no-nonsense vibe, it’s spare and uncluttered. and That makes it more comfortable for me to shop and read all the labels. And they have gluten-free beer.

I came in here because a co-worker recommended it to me. Once I walked in I immediately thought this place was my kind of spot. I saw the wide variety of craft beers and different types of specialty foods and my inner-hipster started getting excited. So I proceeded to get a smoked turkey sandwich with some special mustard or whatever. I paid $ 8 for the sandwich and walked back to work to find out upon arrival that the sandwich could hardly feed a small bird. Nothing like paying 8 bucks for three slices of turkey and some fancy mustard. I will not be buying my lunch here anymore. However, I may check out the different beers and possibly get a growler filled. ***** I’m updating this review. I can’t really explain it but I now come in here at least once a week and buy those over priced sandwiches. The bacon jam has really got me hooked. Can’t really explain why I now like this joint. Maybe it’s because they’re the only place that accepts cards in Greenpoint. I don’t know. 2 star to 4 star

Upscale take out sandwich shop. They have beers on tap, free tastes. Bring your growler or buy one here. The have a fantastic selection of cheeses and meats. A great place for picnic supplies. They have all sorts of goodies. Good selection of local bottle beer, sodas and condiments. I really liked this place but the prices are just to high. I picked up our picnic supplies everything was tasty. Three star’s because of prices.

Found these guys via Captured Tracks(local record label home to Mac de Marco and the likes) and SUPPER. Good vibes, and def one for the list if in Greenpoint. «Amazing selection of cheese, cured meats… What’s not to like?»

By far the rudest woman behind a counter I’ve ever encountered. I’ve literally never written a negative Unilocal review before– if you have nothing nice to say, etc etc, but this woman was everything people hate about Vermont transplants to NYC. I went in to buy a sandwich, left in a yelling argument with someone who couldn’t be bothered to do her job.

I’ll admit that I rarely shop for cheese here, because I rarely shop for cheese, but they are awesome for doing the extra leg-work and denoting which cheeses are vegetarian-friendly and which aren’t. I do shop here for local and fancy condiments, sauces, sodas, snacks, sweets and beers for gifts and special occasions. I’ll admit that there’s a lot of sticker shock on some of the items and some I would never buy, but based on comparison shopping, ED is just charging the normal retail in the area for those brands. I definitely wouldn’t accuse this store of gouging like some have. If you want high-quality stuff made in an expensive part of the country from a local shop, it’s gonna cost you. It’s not going to be as cheap as Whole Foods, because they don’t get the same kind of volume discount(duh). That said, I’ve even found some of the items to be the same price as the large stores, so everyone can just get off of their«hipster» accusation high-horse. C-Town and the Garden are down the street(good luck finding anything cheaper at the Garden than here, though).

I came here looking for some organic vegan products. I was shocked by their shamelessly overpriced cheeses and sauces and asked«why is everything so expensive» the guy at the counter gave me some major attitude and answered«because food is expensive» now, i do love quality food. i shop at farmers markets, whole foods and dean and deluca. the prices at eastern district are higher than all of those places. plus the attitude. i won’t be surprised when i see the«for rent» sign on their store soon. haha

Typical Brooklyn hipster transplant nonsense. Everything is extremely overpriced. While I can get down with«artisanal» products — the trash that indie companies(ie Brooklyn Brine Co.) are producing and this store carries isn’t worth my paper dollahs! Staff: The girl, fine. The guys? please, pass the pretense. Next!

This place is so chill and down to earth. The couple that run Eastern District are so incredibly nice and helpful and knowledgeable. I’d recommend letting them offer up suggestions and pairings; these guys know their shit. Their selection is outstanding: great beers on tap, great bottles, an amazing spread of cheeses, tons of terrific grocery items, and might I add, they carry BACONMARMALADE. Their sandwiches, although DELICIOUS, are slightly small for $ 9. They make up for it in many other ways. And finally, be sure to take notice of the picture of Dr. Steve Brule that they have fondly displayed by the front door, suggesting all customers to «Don’t be a dummy, use a shopping basket, for your health!!»

Eastern District was a major boon to the neighborhood when it opened in 2010 — it filled a gourmet foodie treat niche that was hard to find north of Bedford Ave. One thing I like is that they’ve formed partnerships with lots of local growers and Brooklyn-based businesses, so it’s a nice community anchor on Greenpoint’s north end. The shop is a favorite of mine for a few different things. If you’re looking for some top end meat and cheese for a picnic(though there aren’t many spots to lay out a blanket in Greenpoint), dinner party, romantic evening, etc., they’ll set you up. The staff is great with recommendations as you would expect. I’m not super educated or picky about cheese so I can usually find something I’ll like at C Town’s surprisingly decent cooler, but it’s always fun going to Eastern District and trying something new. Eastern District is solid if you want to find a gift for a specialty food-lover in the $ 5 to $ 50 range. They have something for everyone — think things like pickles and spreads in jars, various snacks with bacon in them, Japanese imports, cutting boards and cheese tools. The best part of Eastern District for me is their sandwiches. Their rotating menu features some creative combinations, and it’s an affordable way to try the products they sell. I’ve never had a sandwich there I didn’t like, even when I’m not sure about the ingredients(I had no idea I like country pork pâte, for example). Each sandwich features a few basic ingredients and doesn’t get carried away, letting all the parts shine. One of Eastern District’s main focuses is their beer selection, which is pretty extensive and has some rare imports and micro-brews. They offer some specialty brews in larger bottles, warm and chilled six packs, and several taps where you can fill and re-fill growlers. However, when I was a big beer drinker, I rarely bought anything there, mainly because there are countless bodegas up and down Manhattan Ave that have great selections for a few bucks cheaper. I can’t say I have any gripes with Eastern District. I’d give it five stars, but I only go there once in a blue moon. Despite all the things going for it, I only find myself stopping in once in a blue moon — I can’t see a lot of reason to go aside from the occasional treat, gift or tasty sandwich. Still, the owners are friendly and helpful, and they do an excellent job of delivering on their specialties. If you haven’t been, you absolutely should check out Eastern District to try something new.
