Duncan’s Quality Fish Mkt

I enjoy the soul food and the fish and chips in this place. My favorite combo though is the turkey wings with Mac and cheese and some candy yam on the side. I Come here about once every two weeks to gt some food. Service is pretty fast, there are no tables so it’s only food pickup. The three people that serve the food are also very nice folks. Meat and two sides will run you about $ 7.50. Not bad considering how expensive everything else around Clintonhill is now a days.

thats great everyone… judge it by its look alone and not food and keep eating at starbucks and chipotle across the street… ruthie’s after more than 50 years is closed down the block, high rises keep dominating a once great neighborhood and you complain about a wet floor and give 1 star??? this place is fantastic and always has been, not sure about new owner but ill change this review if something has dipped, but they have amazing ides and fresh fish fried up while you wait… wtf could be wrong with that??? and complaints about the attitudes??? smdh, y’all have never worked food or spent any time in bk or nyc, ou are not regulars but you wanted to be treated like kings/​queens (see the movie i like killing flies if you wanna know why yo are treated so «badly»)…this place is legit and probably not much time left, as everything great is disappearing around here

OK where do I start the original owner just sold the place to his son… all the cards are not in place yet. The fried (whiting) is is still good as are the shrimp. The Mac and cheese was kinda disgraceful, I think they used keyfood brand generic cheese

I just left this place. I ordered the fish and shrimp dinner with two sides. The yams was under cooked and nasty. The fish was average but the shrimps was pretty good. However, when the young guy from the back brought out my food, I told him I didn’t order collard greens instead I asked for Mac n cheese. He so rudely said well this is what the ticket says take it up with the person who took your order. They get two stars becuase of the young girl who was really nice and took the time out to correct my order. I only went here cause my favorite spot (Ruthies) is no longer open… Note: work on those yams as well as your customer service …

Been back a few times for fried shrimp and fried fish — only good experiences!

Fridays the stuffed floynder or whiting was amazing w/​the jumbo shrimp!!! I think if they where to do a lil renovations they would be one of the best fish spota in Brooklyn..

On the road and famished. Had a taste for fish and chips. I was brought here. Mind you, I didn’t realize that it’s an actual fish market. They sell fresh seafood on one side and prepared food on the next.
It wasn’t raining but I walked in on their wet floor and walked out. It hurt my sensibilities. The place looked dirty and run down. I love seafood. And even though it’s a takeout spot, my stomach couldn’t handle the smell of so much fresh seafood, the sight of it in such close proximity to my lunch. All I can think of is if they’re (probably killing), cooking AND doing all this cleaning at the side and back, can some type of bacteria get into my food? Yes it can happen at home but I just dont think it’s wise to pay a business for it. Is this sort of practice even legal in the US
My rating is strictly based on the fact that I don’t like the set up. I cannot review food I haven’t had.

I wish I could give them no stars. Years ago it was better. The little old lady has a mean rude attitude. I asked for the cheesy part of the mac and cheese, she wants to give me the hard crusty part and I’m paying my money. She told the guy ringing me up no. Second the cabbage is average. Mac and cheese needs more cheese. I brought shrimps about a month ago and they taste stale. Again if the old lady is in there expect rude service. She is so mean. Last time I went, I turned around and left. I went to Bed Stuy Fish! This is no monopoly. I will not patronize a business providing rude service.

So much better when he was the hole-​in-​the-​wall spot on Myrtle Avenue when I was a kid. I know the fish a dead but sometimes the fish look like they have decayed.

First of all I love Duncan’s whiting fish and shimrip!!! but I never had an experience like what I did today… first of all I called to find out if they take debit cards and what is the price on their lunch special. on the phone the lady had a terrribbbllleeee attitude!!! so i disregard it. When I got there I order fish with cabbage then I changed my order to double mac and cheese. THe lady rolled her eyes at me and answered WHAT? to me, like really ms, I am bringing you business and you have the nerve to talk to me how you want? I went on to order my co workers food and the lady have the nerve to take a deep breathe and threw her hands up as if i did something wrong. so I ordered the food and waited, when it was finally done, I could not even put kethup and hot sauce on my food because she just wrapped everything up before I can even get to pick up the kethup bottle and litterally threw the bag at me. lol well handed it ruffly. She had such a bad attitude that when another customer went to order her food the ladt threw her hand up and said «you gonna have to wait because I am busy trying to fish this ordrer» what ever happened to having good customer services?
All I am saying is you can go there but expected horrible customer service from the old lady working there, bad attitude and acts like she does not want to take your order. Also there food is horrible there mac and cheese taste like feet !!! no cheddar cheese just regular american cheeese and not even enough. The cabbage looked like it was in the contianer for about a couple of days!!! I think you should only eat the whiting and shrimip everything else is disgusting!!!
This place needs a whole new décor becasue now it just looks dirty and they have a fish market on one side and you can order food ont the other side.

If I could give Duncan’s «Quality» fish market 0 stars I promise you I would. There are somethings that I feel shouldn’t be added to your order. These things are:
1. Major ‘tude as soon as you walk in the door.
2. Rolling of eyes when requesting a change of a side order.
I was really in the mood for soul food, you know when you are craving something and you have to have it? Well, that’s the kind of feeling I was having today. I was in desperate need of fried whiting, candied yams and mac and cheese. After scouring the web I found a couple of places around my job particulary *FOSTERS* that had excellent reviews. Instead of going with my gut and reviews from the Unilocal community I went to Duncan’s and that my friends is where my lunch went to S*@!
I ordered whiting, mac and chees and candied yams.
Mac and Cheese — incredibly forgettable, would be perfect if you are on a no salt, no flavor diet.
Candied Yams — In a word «meh». Kind of dry. You would probably do better eating them from the can.
Whiting — Nicely seasoned and had a nice crunch.
My meal was $ 7.75 but I honestly would have shelled out the extra dough at Fosters for probably a better meal and better service.
My advice would be to stay the hell away from this place. Not worth the attitide of the disgruntled «order taker/​cashier.

I didn’t think it was possible to ruin Fish n’ Chips but at Duncan’s, they were able to find a way. They seemed to lazily skin one side of the fish and leave the other side with the skin, even going as far as leaving the tail completely on. The fish was obviously not cod and it seemed as if they just just threw any old fish into the fryer and called it a day.
Meanwhile, one of their employees was trying to sell me a bootleg copy of X-​Men Origins: Wolverine and Dragonball: Evolution. By the time I actually got my fish and chips, they looked outright disgusting and I felt marginally sick after eating just one of them and calling it a day.
Maybe if you’re looking for a place that is greasier and sleazier than White Castle this may be worth visiting but for twice the price you could go to the much more high end Chez Lola and actually eat a decent meal.
I guess their bootleg DVDs were cheap at $ 3 a pop. So maybe if you’re somehow reading this without an internet connection and you can’t pirate movies, this place would totally be worth a visit, but for the 95% of American’s with Internet, just skip it. Seriously.

Duncan’s is take-​out on one side and fresh fish market on the other. The fresh fish selections are usually shrimp, salmon, whiting and some choice of whole fish if desired. The take-​out side is primarily fried fish and shrimp with sides like mac-​n-​cheese, collard greens, rice-​n-​peas & yams. And desserts are available a couple of times a week.
I think this place has so much potential, but it definitely needs a new business model. I wish they’d consider adding healthier options to the menu. The restaurant definitely caters to traditional Black American tastes, but the health movement is on the rise in Black communites and the demographic of Ft Greene/​Clinton Hill is changing. You can get baked & grilled fish and collard greens (which are packed with nutrients) but more should be included.
