Why not 5 stars? Because I’ve had better. BUT this place is great nonetheless. Décor is cute, small and intimate place. Downside is that my bf(6’4″) is very uncomfortable eating here because all the seating is made for children. Even I have my knees touching the bottom of my table and I’m 5’4″. Besides that, the atmosphere is comfortable and the service is excellent. They constantly checked on us and were very friendly. They bring out plantain chips and two sauces for an appetizer, which is very nice and tastes quite good! I really love the red and green sauce(one being s bit more spicy the other with a hint of lemon.) I ordered the Palomilla. VERY tasty. The onions were cooked exactly how I enjoy them, lots of flavor to the chicken, just delicious. I said every bite. We got a few cocktail drinks and beer. I got a piña colada and strawberry colada. Both satisfying but I do wish the pina had a little more pina and a little less alcohol. I just enjoy things very fruity when I order a fruit beverage, but I’m sure next time they’d assimilate if I said anything about it. Overall pleasant experience.

Food is not good. Service just ok. Save your $$ if your really into«CUBAN» food. This is not the place for you. I’m not sure what they are making at this restaurant. But the name is very misleading. The food was not fulfilling at all and following me and my husband eat somewhere else. The place is a «C+» at best and that’s on a good daub don’t waste your time or money. Not worth it. Sorry.

It pains me t write this review because love the food and the specials but the two Dominican waitresses need to be fired. They have severe attitude and do not appreciate the customers. So everyone reciprocate and do not tip them. Literally they act like they are in hell and just cant wait to get off from work because you the customer, annoy them. I recommend ordering to go because the food is fantastic. Just don’t sit down and eat unless served by other staff There are only two Dominican female waitresses there so just avoid them if possible. Customer service is always important if i am spending my money.

Stopped by for lunch for a group of 3 plus one baby. Love that they’re so laid back and even have high chairs. The cuban sandwich was by far the best thing, along with the complimentary plantain chips. We also got the much raved about pulled pork with mashed plantains(really sweet) and beans which was a little heavy and not that tasty. I added a ton of the hot sauce to it to try to compensate for the lack of flavor. The black bean soup was hearty and satisfying(but I always love soups and stews!)

Cant wait until Cuba sends more people to NYC. They should have been back there cooking!!! While the décor is a charmed Cuban fantasy. The staff was south American, Mexican & one Dominican. Lovely people & great service. Just far from authentic. The patrons were local yuppies. I don’t think theyd know the difference. This place is great for meeting friends for drinks though

I absolutely love this place. I’ve been so many times and I always refer people to it. The food is so great. I usually get the picadillo but I’ve also had the ropa vieja and of course the cubano sandwich. The food is priced great with several option under $ 20. The drinks are pretty good as well. The service is always on point as the staff is attentive and explain things on the menu of needed. The space is a little tight with tables kind of on top of each other. There is also no foyer/waiting area so patrons waiting for a table can sometimes be right on top of you if your at one of those tables near the front. I think it’s still cash only so come prepared. There is an atm though. I don’t think they take reservations either. Despite those few deficiencies, it’s well worth going.

I love this place but they put American cheese in my Cuban sandwich the last time I order here. I’m so upset because I have been wanted a good Cuban sandwich for a week and then you put American cheese on a Cuban sandwich. Fail but I might try it again but don’t know when I will.

This is one of Tristan and I’s favorite places to go to. If you’re craving some good ol’ Cuban/Mexican food, come here for some authenticity. It’s way better than Habana Outpost. Note that they are CASHONLY, and the ATM in their restaurant has a 2.25 service charge fee! Other then that, their service is bomb(extremely efficient). Here is a list of what we’ve ordered: — Half Chicken with yellow rice and beans: I loved it but it got a bit salty for my taste after awhile. — Steak Nachos: amazingly filling and induces you into the biggest food coma ever. WELLWORTHIT! — Hanger steak sandwich with avocado + chipotle mayo: LOVEDIT! Everything tasted fresh and flavorful! Prices range from below $ 10 to $ 15 ish. They also serve plantain chips as free staters and the two sauces it comes with is so delish!

We drove from Queens to check this place out. It has a cool island feel to it. There was no wait when we arrived and we were seated right by the window which was great for people watching. It was 4 of us(including my 3 and 15 year old daughters). The complimentary plantain chips and sauce was a nice touch. I had the chicken with garlic and lime, rice and black beans and it was delicious. My aunt had the special which was a crab sandwich(she opted for salad instead of bread) and loved it. My daughters both ordered quesadillas-the little one loved her cheese quesadilla but my oldest barely ate her chicken and cheese quesadilla. She said it was bland and dry. She ended up eating part of my meal which she enjoyed. She is my frequent dining partner and said that she’d return and order something different. Def worth checking out if you are in this part of Brooklyn.

2.5 stars. Came here for my birthday at around 3 pm. The décor was cute, was feeling the vibe. We were seated, however it was quite cramped. We were given plantain chips about 10 minutes after we were seated and we were given 2 measly sauces of I don’t know what. My significant other and I ordered the picante omelette and the hanger steak quesadilla. We waited over 40 minutes. By the time we were finished with our meal it was 4:40. It took a while before we got a waitress’s attention and that was only because we got up and approached our waitress and said we had to leave. We had to be somewhere by 5:30 and the service was extremely slow. I wouldn’t come back. Everything was so mediocre. The quesadilla was so dense and the meat was dry. My boyfriends quesadilla was OK which is why I’m giving it a .5. Other than that, this place loses 2 full stars for the service and for the food.

I knew I’d probably be set here if I ordered a Cuban Sandwich(cuz, you can’t really go wrong with those!) and I’m so glad I did. I had the Hangar steak with Chimmichuri(?) sauce and it was sooo good, I was definitely full for hours. Also, we ordered the side of platanos, which comes with a YUMMY mango sauce and that was delish! I also like the fried plantain chips you get in the beginning. Cute place with an authentic feel and good drinks. I had a piña colada and it was nice, sweet, and had a good amount of liquor. I’d say give this place a visit!

A little colorful slice of Havana in Brooklyn! Good sized portions, decent sizes, but always well seasoned and flavorful. We were craving cubano sandwiches and were happy to see that Cubana was in the neighborhood. Slightly on the dry side unfortunately, but we did get our fix. I love that they offer authentic drinks and still serve their cokes in the mini bottles. Fast service, except for refilling your water bottle, which for some reason just took them for-eh-ver! A bowl of plantain chips are offered to you as soon as you sit and they are delicious. I also tried their jicama and apple salad — so refreshing and light with just the right amount of acidity and sweet. I will definitely have that again! I also want to come back and try some of their rice platters — that yellow rice and steak plate at the table over gave me a little order-jealousy. We came here for dinner right before the dinner rush and boy are we sure glad we did! The place is tiny and intimate so it fills up very quickly. Also the tables are very tiny so if you order more than a plate and 1 drink each, your run out of table space quickly.

The food was… Hmmm… My sister would say something like… Delish! That how I feel it was. I think it also great to have company with you. So you can have a better review of the food. But, for me it was, Delish! In other words, delicious ! I would come again to try their other dishes. Try something new. Oh, the reason why I didn’t give them 5stars is because I didn’t get a refill. And, to be frank, it was just my first time going their. It wasn’t 5 stars worthy. Sorry, maybe I will chance my mind next time.

I came here after a day at the Brooklyn Museum. I had a pleasant experience at Cubana Café. I don’t have any major complaints, but it’s not really anything to write home about either. Last month I watched the movie«Chef» on Netflix(cute movie) and it inspired me to go out and try a cubano(Cuban sandwich). I’d never had one, so I did’t have anything to compare it to. The movie just made them look so amazing, and I had to try one! I’m getting ahead of myself though. When we arrived, it took a minute for someone to come seat us. At our request, we were seated at a choice table by the open window. Sitting at that table made the dining experience extra enjoyable. Feeling like we were eating outside added to the ambiance. I don’t think it would have been nearly as nice if we’d been seated further in the restaurant. It looked cramped and dark in there. We were served complementary plantain chips with salsa. They were pretty good. Then again, I was starving. They could have given me raw plantain peel and I probably would have devoured it. I was there with one other person, so we split the Relleno De Papa as an appetizer. It was decent. I wasn’t particularly impressed, and it was a little small for sharing. Both the appetizer and the entrees came with a weird chickpea salad. I like chickpeas, but something about the sauce or something tasted a little funny. Fortunately, I wasn’t disappointed by my sandwich, since that’s what I came for. But, if anything, it made me want to go out and find better ones. The bread was nice and crunchy, a little burnt in places, but nothing I couldn’t work around. The chipotle mayonnaise on it was savory, and the cheese was nice and melty. Both the cheese and the pickle that comes on the sandwich could have been a little better distributed with the meat, but overall it was a tasty and filling meal. The drinks were really good. My friend got the frozen margarita. She said it was weak, but she liked it all the same. I got the Speedy Chihuahua, which was DELICIOUS! I highly recommend it. I didn’t think it was weak. I also got a Caipirinha, just because I’d never had one before and the description intrigued me. Much like the sandwich, it was good, but I knew it could be better, so I am now on a quest to find a better one. The prices are about what you’d expect for this type of place. Frankly, I thought they were a little high given the quality. $ 9 for a sandwich is just a lot. Another $ 9 for a drink, is also a lot, but typical for New York cocktails. The service, much like everything else, wasn’t terrible, but wasn’t notable either. Initially we had a male server. He was friendly enough, and patient as we were making up our minds. Towards the end of the meal a female server took over, and she was simply unpleasant(unsmiling, abrupt, etc.), but overall, I don’t have any major complaints. That really is the sum of this review. If you’re in the area and in the mood for Cuban food and a cocktail, then stop in. But don’t expect it to be an epic dining experience.

Better late than never of a review. Came here after the babeland Unilocal elite event months ago to stop in for a snack and cocktail. Bit pricey for both and just standard level of food. One of their benefits though for sure is their complimentary plantain chips — yum! I went with a Cuba Libre. Most drinks are around $ 7 – 8 at least. Though, they do give you a pretty generous amount of rum and a real bottle of coke to wash it down with. My friends both had red sangria that tasted just a-okay. For sides we split an order of their tostones with some kind of fruit chutney and boiled yuca that came covered with some kind of white sauce. Both good but a little dry and lacking in flavor. Another major downside of this restaurant that has a few more outposts in the city and Carroll Gardens is that they are cash only and have no happy hour.

Nothing to write home about: overly-sweetened«sangria» that tasted like a Hawaiian Punch juice box. I don’t think there was any alcohol in it. Granted, the other people I was with had cocktails that they enjoyed and seemed strong. The cocktails are mostly vodka and rum-based, and the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. It didn’t feel super clean and the tables and chairs were flimsy and uncomfortable. The server was nice, but a little pushy and over-attentive. The fruit salad was ok, but seemed like some of the fruit was not fresh.

I came here with my boyfriend and we we’re blown away by the food! We were sure we found our new go to spot in Brooklyn for Cuban food. The server was helpful and friendly. We ordered rice and bean with grilled chicken and mango for me and he had the garlic chicken. The plantain chips were SOOO good we quickly devoured those. We are paid out check(cash only) and left with happy Bellys. Since we loved it so much we decided to come back a few weeks later for takeout. I got the chicken and beans with mashed plantains and he got the garlic chicken again with rice & beans. The food was almost 40.00 just for those dishes and it was take out!!! Worst of all when I got the food home it was not edible the plantain mash that I was so excited to try was almost rancid tasting… It was sugary and awful… I was mad I ordered it and paid for it… I want to say that this place just had a bad night and maybe take out isn’t their specialty… I might get the courage to come back and give it a try again but it won’t be anytime soon!!!

I like that they serve plantain chips at the start of the meal. I tried the ropa vieja. I’m not expecting it to be the best I’ve had(or made), but it was disappointing. Ropa vieja should have the deep, complex taste of being slow cooked with sofrito(a sauce made with tomato, peppers, cumin). This version tasted like beef with tomato paste and green olives added on, no depth. The black beans are good and creamy, and the yellow rice is fine. My friend had the fish of the day(fried talapia), with elote and mashed plantains. Most recently, I had the sopa de pollo. It’s delicious: clear, light broth, lots of chicken, yucca, cilantro, avocado, and slivers of snow peas. I want to like this place more than I do. The waiters are inconsistent. Overall, it’s Cuban food for Anglos. The décor is fun. Brunch is better.

I went here last night and ordered the roasted fish of the day which turned out to be talapia and salmon. I got the talapia. It came with mango salsa, whipped sweet plantains and corn. Though the fish tasted crispy and flavorful, it was definitely fried. This makes me assume that it was not fresh. If it’s not fresh, don’t tell me it’s the fish of the day. The corn was delicious and prepared like your typical Mexican street corn. The plantains were super sweet. Almost too sweet, but still very yummy. My girlfriend got the ropa vieja. I’ve had this dish a few times at different places, and this was definitely the most tomato-y. The flavor was ok, but the tomato definitely masked the flavor of the beef. The wait staff was on it and made sure to check in on tables without being pushy.
