Coney Island Brewery

Coney Island brewery is a great stop for craft beer lovers. We stopped in here on a Friday afternoon and we had a pint as well as a flight of 4 of their beers. The tart cherry berliner was delicious and I am not a huge beer fan so that says a lot. My husband really enjoyed all of the beers he had. They have a large outdoor seating area which is great in the nice weather!

Place should try to get it’s own identity. They have porta pottys that stink next to tables. It’s like battling DJ’s with the business next door, and they’re loosing.

For my first time at Coney Island I knew I had to stop in to the brewery. It is a rather small space, with most of the seating being outside. They have a small service station outside where some of the beers are available, and a larger bar inside with their full offerings. They do not have food available but you are welcome to bring your own.
Their well known Mermaid Pilsner is not available here, but the available flavors are much more exciting. They have some fun brews on the list as well as some of your more standard IPAs, stouts, and porters. My favorites were the Kettle Corn Cream Ale, Double Header DIPA, and the Hard Root Beer. We actually came here twice in one day. The first time I went with a pint ($ 6) and the second time I went with a flight ($ 8). The Kettle Corn Cream Ale took the cake for me, because I enjoyed the smooth flavor and it was very unique.
The staff are very friendly and have the perfect vibe for working at a brewery. We took the free tour at the end of the evening and although the area is small, they actually give you a great history lesson about Coney Island while teaching you about the brewing process. If you want a guided tasting, it will cost you $ 5. As is pretty standard, you can play some board games and card games while enjoying your drinks. We played Cards Against Humanity, and they even have the expansion packs. The brewery is only a short walk from the subway stop and just down the street from the main attractions, making it easy to get to and worth the trip.

Coney Island brewery is a new recent edition to Our community and it’s really an opportunity to experience fresh beer that is all brewed on site, and gain a vast array of knowledge into the world of brewing beer. You’re taste buds will be taken on an adventure and your mind filled with amazing facts of the meticulous, long process involved in brewing.
I came across the brewery during Memorial Day weekend and I’m happy to have walked in. There selection of beers varies based on what’s being brewed at that time, by a master brewer of course. I heard the alcoholic root beer is beyond amazing but I was unable to try it because they sold out.
As a huge fan of dark beers I went for the imperial stout, and I do not regret it one bit. It was a beautiful dark rich. Full bodied beer with these strong hints of chocolate and coffee. I wanted to buy a growler but due to the «nitro» factor you have about a week before it goes flat. It had me border lining la la land with one pour so beware it’s strong and sneaks up on you.
The prices are very reasonable. A cup of fresh brewed beer is 6 dollars, a glass take home growler is 20. The staff is so sweet, accommodating, and kind. There were some folks I guess that scheduled a tour and I asked I I could join and they said of course. The lady who gave us the tour was so bubbly, funny and entertaining. The entire staff just gives off such a good vibe. Being the lightweight that I am I couldn’t handle another cup of 10% alcohol by volume beer but I wanted to have another few more cups.
It’s an amazing experience, they have an outside seating area and I really suggest that you take some time to take the tour and have a nice cup of beer, while sitting outside on one of there tables. Definitely will be coming back to the brewery to sample more beers!

Finally Coney Island Brewery has a physical tap/​tasting room. The brewery just opened this past year in the Brooklyn Cyclones’ MCU Park (entrance is on the street level not from within the stadium). It may be a bit of a haul to get to if you’re not in the area but it’s certainly one of the easiest breweries to find, just head toward the iconic parachute jump and when you reach the baseball stadium, you’re there. Subway is a couple blocks away and there’s a parking lot across the street. The tasting room is pretty tiny with only 3 stools and enough standing room for another 8 or so people but they have a very large front patio area with plenty of picnic tables. They brew 7 different beers right on premises and also have their hard root beer on tap. Flights of 4 are $ 8 (pints are $ 6) and it worked out great that they had 8 beers on tap so we could taste them all with two flights. We really liked all the beers and the variety of beers they had, they really had something for everyone. My favorite was their Saison (6.8% abv) unfortunately none of their beers here are available in cans or bottles because of the size of the facility but you get get a growler filled for $ 14. They also have a very good selection of merch at reasonable prices, I ended up with a tin sign for $ 10. They don’t have food here aside from bags of jerky for sale but I’m sure they don’t have a problem with you bringing in food from nearby, say from Totonno’s.
It’s worth mentioning is that the Coney Island beer you see at the grocery store isn’t made here, it’s made by a contract brewery out in Ohio of all places. Sam Adams currently owns the Coney Island Brewery and the founder, James Koch, is originally from Ohio and currently brews most of the Sam Adams beer there as well. I believe Koch is going around buying up small craft breweries to keep the local craft beer vibe going on with different markets instead of building a giant Sam Adams brand empire. I was told this brewery is an experimental spot to try new recipes (the same with the Sam Adams location you can visit just outside Boston). It’s yet to be seen if anything made here will translate to their large scale brewery in Ohio and brought back to the city for distribution though. I would certainly love for the Saison to make that cut. Even if they just opened the tasting room to give the Coney Island brewery some street cred and so they didn’t have to put an * next to «Coney Island» on their bottles, the truth is that they’re still brewing beer here, it’s delicious, and it’s a great spot to check out when you’re down in Coney Island.

My friend surprised me with a «I’m taking you on a surprise adventure and not telling you where» this past Saturday. I was both surprised but also figured out we were going to Coney Island after we passed most of Park Slope and Sunset Park on the N train. Definitely up there for one of the more unique breweries I have ever been to with a wonderful variety of ales at a cheap and affordable price of $ 6 a pint. Don’t let the 10 oz pours listed on the menu confuse and distress you. Everything the day I came was poured in a 16 oz cup.
Beers I sampled: Cotton Candy Kolsch (4.9% abv): Don’t let this one fool you. It smells like real cotton candy but tastes more like a nice refreshing strawberry kolsch. I could drink a gallon of this easily. It smells deceptively sweet but goes down smooth. I wouldn’t drink a glass of diabetes. Trust. Get this before it doesn’t come out again.
Overpass IPA (6.2% abv): Not as memorable as the others but it had a nice citrusy tropical bite.
Brunch Beer (9% abv): I would drink this for brunch all day long, every day, all day and then be drunk because, hello, 9% alcohol. Very yeasty taste along with a rich golden pear and apple smell and flavor. It really goes down smooth and causes trouble.
Double Header DIPA (8.5% abv): Of the IPAs I probably liked this one the most. More intense with tastes of tangerine, lemon, grape, and peach. Interesting. I didn’t have a full glass but more of a taste on this but I enjoyed it.
Irish G’Bye Imperial Porter (8.3% abv): It’s brewed with potatoes. I think that’s all you need to know and order it. Think potatoes and chocolate with a little hop action going on with the wash down.
Imperial Stout Nitro (10% abv): Or as someone in the bar called this the ‘dark beer that will f**k you up’. Richer than the potato beer. Has an intense coffee and chocolate taste with a hint of licorice like most imperial beers. The nitro element makes it incredibly smooth. I feel like I’m sipping on alcoholic chocolate coffee more than beer. But it was definitely one of my personal favorites that I tried on this trip.
There was also Mermaid Pilsner and their Hard Root Beer on tap when I went but I’ve had those before and I went with the ones that I’ve never seen. They do tasting flights for $ 8 and tours of the brewery. They also fill up growlers for only $ 14. Quite the deal. Food can be brought in. Someone graciously shared their pizza with us. Crowd was pretty awesome. Some girl’s birthday was going on outside under the umbrella tables and everyone invited us to play ‘Cards Against Humanity’ with them. Also, ‘The Warriors’ (I know, cliché) was on a big flat screen tv inside the brewery. Epic. I’m already trying to figure out in my head when the next time I’m gonna come down buy some White Castles or Nathan’s and make my way over to the brewery and catch a Cyclone game.

So this past Saturday I pretty much kidnapped one of my best friends (the only one who like me, has a fondness for the finer, craftier beers in life) and told her I was taking her somewhere awesome. I actually had 2 spots in mind… the first one didn’t work out as planned, but the second one… the second one was Coney Island Brewery.
Years ago when I fell in love with their Mermaid Pilsner, I was saddened to find out that their beers weren’t brewed in Brooklyn. Then in like 2011 they opened up a small brewing space on 12^th street and Surf Avenue and closed… sometime in 2014 I think they opened up this location and I’ve been dying to go ever since.
I’m a YUGE fan of Coney Island Beers — especially their «Tunnel of Love» (Watermelon Wheat) and «Freaktoberfest» (an Oktoberfest type ale). Beers here run only $ 6 a pint, this is great! You can also get growlers here as well.
I feel like a whole new world had been opened up to me though — last weekend was apparently the premier of their Cotton Candy Kolsch. YES. You read that correctly — COTTON CANDY KOLSCH BEER. I sweat it’s not overly sweet — although there are some strawberry flavors that linger on your tongue… it’s absolutely magical stuff.
Other beers I had the pleasure of trying here include their Imperial Stout (Nitro poured), Trapp’ed on the Cyclone — a Trappist-​style Tripel (ABV: 8.5%), their Irish Goodbye Imperial Potato Porter (an ABV: 8.3% and apparently brewed with POTATO FLAKES, hell yeah!) and their Brunch Beer. I was bummed that their website said their Tart Cherry (a Berliner Weisse) was on tap but I think by the time we arrived it had kicked.
We easily spent like 5−−6 hours here. We met some cool peeps who were celebrating a birthday and we played ‘Cards Against Humanity” with them and then there was a fellow who the brewery staff needed to cut off… they made a good life decision with that one and even though they were cutting him off, they still treated him with dignity and respect. Kudos.
For $ 10 I also purchased a metal Mermaid Pilsner sign because every time I see one at a bar I develop a crush on it. I really like mermaids, a lot :’). OH, and also — they don’t sell food here, but you can bring food in from wherever. Shout out to the lady who brought 2 pizza pies to share with the bar and who’s creeper son tried to hit on me and see how far he could get until I kindly reminded him the ring on my left hand wasn’t something out of a gumball machine and that I was happily taken. His mom was great though, super sweet :).
This is easily one of my new favorite places in Brooklyn and it was totally worth the 1.5 hour commute from Queens. Cheers Coney Island Brewery! :)

Not one negative thing can I say about this place! Staff is so nice and attentive. Love all the beers that they make there. Love all the stuff that they sell there really awesome. The atmosphere is just awesome and all the tables have different mermaid pictures. Such an awesome place to go to.

Stopped here after volunteering. Service was quick and friendly. Tried the Mermaid Pilsner was good. I would like to try the hard root beer on my next visit.

Small microbrewery set by Cyclones ballpark. Good location and excellent service by staff. About 10 beers during my visit with a good variation. Big fan of their glassware. Worth a visit while in Coney Island.

AwEsOmE place! Went there recently and took a tour. Being a beer geek, I love how inventive they are with some of their beers. They even have a cotton candy beer coming out soon and our tour group got a sneak taste! For the less adventurous beer drinkers, their light-​bodied, crisp drinking, nicely hopped Mermaid Pilsner is delicious! The staff was super cool and knowledgeable about their beer. Tommy served us beer at the end of our tour and he was super friendly and funny! If you are in Coney Island, this place is definitely a place to drop by for a great time and great beer!

OMG. friendly, friendly, from the moment we walked in till we left. Funny that the sign blew down and when I called they said look for Danny Boys Pizza, that’s us. But we found it and glad we did. The mermaid was really good, the Triple (Cyclone) even better and the root beer amazing! I will definitly make the trip from Jersey to come back here. Good luck guys can’t wait to come back

My fella and i were looking for something free and cool to do in the area, and remembered about their brewery tour. The place is tiny, but it was nice enough to sit outside on the patio, which is huge. The brewery tour is more of a stand in one spot and point deal, but the staff more than make up for the square footage. They are welcoming and knowledgeable, funny as hell to boot. Speaking of boots, that Root Beer tho! Damn, I bought a growler of it, after Teresa gently explained to me what a growler was. They told us about some of the summer plans and festivals, and I will def be back. What could be better then cold beers in the warm sun with amazing bartenders?

Love this place! They have 8 beers on tap that change seasonally. I hadn’t been before, so the bartender recommended we get 2 flights (all 8 beers total) to sample. The flight ended with their hard root beer as a dessert.
The place is small, just one L shaped bar. They have cool merchandise for sale and don’t mind if you bring in food. The building is new and renovated and there are free tours that you can go on with their friendly staff.

Get the Coney Island Hard Root Beer! $ 8 for a flight of 8 beer tastings and you choose from their menu of 16 beers (as of 11÷10÷15). Plenty of outdoor seating with a limited standing capacity indoors. We sat outside with our small dog which apparently wasn’t an issue. I tasted all of their 16 beers the day we came and they were all very good. But the root beer was definitely the best. They have growlers here as well and apparently if you live locally, you get a discount! So don’t forget to ask your bartender about the local discount.

Wow such a welcoming staff! I got a big welcome from Teresa & Tommy walking through the door. They not only guided me through making a beer decision (I got an amazing NY Honey Stout) but also had many tips on things available to do in the neighborhood & they kept the conversation going until my husband arrived.
The brewery had 8 styles on tap and also hooked me up with a tiny sample of their delicious hard ginger ale which wasn’t even available in NY yet.
The tour was very informative and the staff was able to answer all questions. Seems like the staff got to be buddies with everyone that walked through the door.
They don’t serve food but you’re able to bring in anything. I was offered a coupon for a nathans hotdog lol
I’ve been looking for a home brewery and I think I’ve found it.

New York honey stout is the bomb! Tucked conveniently right underneath the stands of MCU park, this brand-​new 10-​barrel brewery and taproom is a must-​visit if you’re anywhere near Coney Island. Opened August 2015, pouring eight different beers that vary with the season, pints for $ 6, flights for $ 8 and filling growlers for $ 14. Taproom is tiny but there’s a large beer garden out front, they’re gonna go nuts in baseball season! Even got a very quick informal tour of the works in back, eyeballing the CO2 coming off a fermenting tank. When friendly people make great beer you just want them to do well.

It’s about time Coney Island Brewing company started brewing in Coney island!!! The establishment is so full of life and energy and a real fun place to grab a beer or two or simply even give the Coney brews a test run! They have an AMAZING HARD ROOT BEER (yes the only thing they needed to add was the vanilla ice cream!!) the FREAKTOBERFEST was amazing too!
They have an indoor space where you can have your own self guilder tour of the facility and check out what’s going on behind the scenes as well as a great place to test their brews!
There’s also a large sitting space in front to enjoy the sunshine! All booze right now and no food yet. And cute Coney Island memorabilia available for sale (trucker hats, t’s and cups… Way better than your standard I heart NY tshirt… Get ‘em while they are hot, hipsters!)
Definitely give both a try next time you are walking the boardwalk or checking out the Brooklyn Cyclones at MCU park! It’s a worthwhile trip!
