Coney Island Beach and Boardwalk

Great place. Went on a Monday and it was busy, but not crowded. The place has added a lot of rides and is really cleaned up. Laid right on the beach and felt comfortable.

A good getaway place when I need to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The boardwalk is very quiet and relaxing unlike in the park, the sands are very clean, perfect for strolling. There are few rides in the park but its far from cheap, delicious street foods is everywhere, and many more to see.

I would love to give this place 2.5 stars but unfortunately I cannot. Coney Island, Take a deep breath, ahhhhh, that’s the smell of the ocean and an overflowing garbage pail. Its nowhere close to how it was in its hay day but I guess you could say its somewhat better than how it was just a few decades ago.
Unlike NY transplants and tourists when you’re from NY you really don’t go to Coney Island all that often. Its grimy, dirty, old, but hey its Brooklyn. Despite the recent rehab on parts of coney island, there’s still sketchy areas.
The boardwalk concessions aren’t all that great, in fact its probably not a god idea to eat from the older places
The beach is kinda dirty in parts. I find that if you stick to the far ends of the beach towards sea gate its actually quite clean and peaceful. However, do be warned that if you visit the beach and plant yourself towards the main entrance it’ll be dirty and I’d suggest you keep your shoes on.

Recently I visited Coney Island. It was CLEAN and very family friendly. As a resident of the Los Angeles area over 50 years, I found Coney Island VERY ENJOYABLE!
The locals are friendly and welcoming to outsiders.
Coney Island is EASILY REACHED ON PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION!!!
Their are many rides, catering to the very young and thrill rides for older or just young at heart.
For outside tourists I highly recommend you visit Coney Island, especially if you have children.

Don’t go in the water!
Remember people this is New York… unless you want to come out of that water with a third leg then avoid!

The beaches of NYC are the same as the city: Lots of grey with tiny dots of green here and there. I don’t know why NYC’S whomever is in charge of the beaches isn’t doing something to improve things. Maybe it is the area surrounding the boardwalk, maybe it is the way the beaches in NYC are, or maybe it is because they know that the New Yorker’s do not have too many options, so they will come anyway.
Can be so much better with basic improvements. Do not expect clue water on a sunny day and never ending boardwalk.

It’s a great place for the summer or nearby for a beach atmosphere but during these hot months it gets quite crowded and attracts the unique eccentric clientele. The beach is large and wide and has ample space to find a little area to sit but you’ll definitely be surrounded by people in the hotter summer months. Come in the off season as in fall and you’ll have the beach to yourself for a quieter beach atmosphere.
The boardwalk is filled with chain nick nack stores and not too appealing eateries. It’s a bit pricey as well anchored by the Wahlburgers and Nathans. Skip the Wahlburger and go for the Nathans which is a local mainstay at a affordable price.

We happily rang in the New Year of 2016 on the Boardwalk at Coney Island with our Brooklyn family and friends!
This is the second anniversary for this event. Thankfully the weather was not so bad, which allow us to take advantage of the few open rides, delicious street food, fantastic music, and many more fun activities.
We arrived around 10PM and had more than enough time to partake in pretty much everything and not freeze to death.
Surprisingly there were not that many people, but just the right amount to celebrate with.
Beautiful firework and great company is the best way to bring in the New Year!

I really do love this place, but I docked the rating because it’s sooo expensive.
$ 7 for a ride is just too much. I get that it’s an amusement park, but I’ve been to a lot of amusement parks that were not this expensive.
I do love a lot of the rides and the funnel cake. Just being by the beach is my favorite thing. The beach gets crowded but that’s to be expected.
They could 100% do a better job to clean up the beach. There is always a ton of garbage and hiring some people to keep it clean wouldn’t be a bad idea, plus it would create some jobs.
Overall, it’s a solid 3 but I will always come here in the summer.

It’s filthy and it’s nothing like the Atlantic City Boardwalk (circa 2012).
If you go to either end of the boardwalk, it is nice in that it’s quite and windy and a great spot for reflection/​jogging. But for entertainment, the boardwalk is pretty stale. Other than the Cyclone, the Aquarium, a couple of bars, way too many carnival games, there’s not much there. If you’re looking for fried oreos, then maybe this is your go-​to spot. But unfortunately, it’s no longer really an amusement park.
PS. The beach sucks and is full of glass.

If it’s a sunny day, and you happen to be in the Brooklyn area, this would be a nice stop for a quick walk around the beach or go on some amusement rides. Even though this place is a bit far away (especially if you’re a tourist like me and was mostly in the main city of Manhattan), I thought it was a pretty fun place to explore.
Imagine a big fairground near a beach area where there are live music performers on the side, super expensive amusement rides, and famous hot dogs… That’s how I would summarize Coney Island and the boardwalk. The beach itself wasn’t too bad, but the sand didn’t look too smooth to walk in.
I really enjoyed watching the live musical acts on the side of the boardwalk. A lot of people were dancing and overall, it was a relaxing atmosphere. Other than that, there isn’t too many outstanding features to this place. I felt pretty safe walking around the main area of the beach and amusement park. However, once away from there, the streets did feel a tiny bit sketchy, so I wouldn’t recommend wandering out and about if you’re by yourself.

Took the train here from Queens real early Sunday Morning. The longest train ride ever! Reminds me of Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in CALI only w/​out Nathan’s Hot dog. Beach was nice and Boardwalk was pretty much empty. Nothing was really open yet, but was able to walk the boardwalk and take in some air.

Time marches on. My last visit with a friend was Independence Day 2012 and fast forward to Pre-​Labor Day 2015 with more businesses closing and opening, more stench of urine but slightly less garbage. With a friend we took a summer’s end walk on the boardwalk overlooking the Atlantic Ocean from Southern Brooklyn. The boardwalk is filled with a diversity of activities (karaōke, dancing, boisterous music playing, panhandlers), businesses (food, clothing, street peddlers), Luna Amusement Park. Here lies the illicit cartoon characters (Sesame Street Elmo to name one) banned in Manhattan’s Times Square soliciting for photos with children and adults as they now do their bidding in Coney Island without the watchful eye of NYPD’s Big Brother. For the avid photographer it is heaven as there is much to see. Coney Island was once a thriving location for amusement park and beach a half a century ago and now time has change without preservation of buildings– with the exception of The Cyclone, a national registered historic landmark. I would indulge on Funnel cake with confectioners sugar and/​or strawberry syrup as it is one of the traditional food highlights of American amusement parks.
Neither of us have any interest for swimming nor lying on the sand.

Well the only constant in life is change. I love to hum the Drifters song Under the Boardwalk as I stroll this wide wooden avenue of humanity. Some of you might be drifted by this review lol. Under the boardwalk by the sea we will be having some fun but I noticed you cant get under there no more.
But now we can only walk in the sun and enjoy some fun. Tons of people and I usually look for my friend flying his kites in the sand. But being the last fireworks show of the summer I decided to hang late. I mean its fireworks and you got some guys hawking knockers or some crazzy liquid liquor drinks to people passing by.
I am glad to see so many people as years gone by this place was a ghost town! But if you walk towards Neptune Avenue which I did there is a tale of two cities here. Sad but true we will pump money into money. But the surrounding community is still in a state of disrepair wtf.

Wow! This place has really changed since I was here over 20 years ago! Back then it was seedy with police on every corner. It’s so much nicer now!
We came because I wanted to go on the Cyclone again for old time sake. No such luck. It’s under rehab. I was quite sad.
We walked around the boardwalk. There is such a variety of rides now. Single rides are far from cheap though. With a family, I could see a day here very easily costing you as much as going to a regular theme park.
The beach looked nice and was full of people enjoying the sunny day. The shops were also nice, but over-​priced.
I hope to come back one day and get on the Cyclone again.

I’ve been coming to coney island since I was kid and it has changed a lot. The beach is not as dirty as it used to be, although there are still good amounts of garbage in the sand in the very busy areas. If you go further down the boardwalk/​beach, it’s not as crowded, and less noisy, and the sand is much cleaner. There are two different amusement parks now; one with little kids rides and the other with more thrilling rides.
The boardwalk is a great place for summer walks and just to have fun. From the end of June till after labor day, there are fireworks every Friday night at 9:30pm, but it doesn’t really start until almost 10pm. You can bring beach chairs and towels and sit/​lay in the sand while having front row seats watching fireworks.
There’s also smorgasburg from Thursday to Sunday from 1pm-​10pm! However, it’s not as big as the one in Williamburg or Brooklyn Bridge Park. But hey, there are also two bars where you can purchase a good amount of alcohol! In addition, there are these new creative wall arts where you can take pictures with. They have tables and chairs for you to sit to enjoy your food, alcohol, wall arts, and etc.
Oh! There are days where they have summer movie night at coney island as well. You could good those up on the internet.
Overall, it’s a nice beach to visit in the summer :)

being that I live 8 – 10 minutes walking distance from this place it so happens that I walk by here or walk to here with my family on a regular basis. Not only is it already good but there is about 5 – 15 years of building out to make this place great.
Top of the line chains, events and celebrities are entering the world of Coney Island and each one thing is making it that much greater.
Only reason I did not give it a 5 star review is because due to the fact that I am out there often I also see a bunch flaws and I know there is a long way to go. But my hat goes off to Thor Equities for making this billion dollar project happen.

The beach and boardwalk looked magnificent the day we went; it was sunny and the environment was just so happy and there were lots of positive energy. There was a Michael Jackson flash mob performance (Thriller), which was exciting since we are MJ fans.
I loved the assortment of food on the boardwalk such as Nathan’s, funnel cake, lemonade, saltwater taffy, etc. My only complaint is the bathroom were closed during the daytime so it took us a good one hour to find one in the amusement park (I think we had to pay one quarter?!).
Other than that, the boardwalk reminded me of home, the Jersey Shore, which made me both comfortable and happy. We will definitely spend another day here in the summertime and perhaps even lay out on the beach!

Walking down this board walk brings back memories of my childhood here in Brooklyn, actually I remember the boardwalk when it was made of wood and you could actually go under the boardwalk. Today the boardwalk is a shadow of what it was, but the nostalgia is still there, let’s be honest its iconoclastic… its the boardwalk to the oldest amusement park in the world.
Please arrive before noon to stroll the boardwalk after twelve its get a little hairy early evening and morning strolling are highly recommended its quiet, the sky is scrumptious, and police presence is every where.
Weekends and holidays are always packed.
Fireworks every Friday night starting in the end of June to Labor Day weekend.

We spent an afternoon at the Coney Island Boardwalk and we had a blast! We enjoyed hopping on a ton of rides, the food on the boardwalk was classic, and the atmosphere here was incredible.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and we can’t wait to come back in the future!
