Sucks when they have an event, no one cares how it effects the people that lives across the street from the park, a public park that gets revenue to function from tax payers charging a fee for entry, Public urination at high noon is the norm, and once a year I need to book a hotel room to avoid the insanity until I move back to the suburbs, 10 months out out of the year it’s a quiet public toilet for dogs, then it’s Afro funk time, a time of the year that I do not look forward to #westcherterrocks #goldensbridge #peaceandquiet

It’s a park. I love parks. Especially ones that host awesome musical, cultural staples like AfroPunk. I also have been here in early spring running workouts for a baseball team I used to coach. The layout is perfect for having the kids run laps and still being able to keep an eye on them to make sure there are no slackers. Support your local park and go play in it.

Afropunk fest tonight was incredible!!! Lenny Kravitz headlining was so great. Two hours of killin funk, rock, soul and more. Lenny had the crowd going wild, dancing, getting down and of course the ladies screaming. Cindy Blackmon on drums was off the hook. Phew she can play her ass off. And the bass player.Gail. Wow. she’s so funky and in the pocket. playing all the classic bass lines to his tunes with panache and a seriously Phat bass tone. Can’t remember her last name but she’s been touring with him awhile as well as played With Bowie on his last tours and other assorted huge bands. She’s a monster bassist. With the rest of his tight band smokin and letting loose on all the solos they took. Three horns, three backup singers and his gtr. Player who’s been with him from the beginning. Before Lenny. Gary Clarke jr. Did an awesome set that was bluesy and rockin. Had a great late 60s sound and had everyone totally loving the vibe. Before him was one of the best newish bands out there. Vintage Trouble. They’re a must see if ya like old school soul and rock. They’re a British band who’s been blowing up the last few years with critical and public acclaim. They recently were special guest openers for The Stones and The Who. handpicked by both bands. so you know they got it going on. The singer is like a mix of Otis Redding, James Brown, and Robert Plant being backed by one of the best rock n soul bands out there. Afropunk 2015 was killer!!! Lenny especially got into it and talked of how psyched he was to be playing in Brooklyn. where he’s originally from. and how great it was to be playing in front of such an afrocentric and mixed audience… makes sense since he generally plays in front of a mostly white crowd. Been going to afropunk for the last six years and it’s always one of the highlights of summer. Sure danced my ass off :-) —

Was here for the AfroPunk Festival. I liked that they provided chairs for people who didn’t want to sit on the grass(and forgot blankets). A really big venue that supported the two stages, plus had plenty of room for rows of food trucks right out front. The portapotties were a nightmare, but what can you do? I’m curious what this place is like on a normal day.
