Cohen’s Fashion Optical

I don’t even know where to begin, so, I’ll start off with my semi-​dramatic back story. In December I was struck by a vehicle as a pedestrian. My very expensive Chanel glasses flew into the air, cracked in half by the bridge and the bottom of the left frame. For three and a half months I’ve been walking around with my glasses crazy glued and I had to re-​glue them on three occasions. Since I’m a driver, my anxiety level was at an all-​time high — thinking at any time while I’m the Belt Parkway they’d just fall apart and I’d wind up driving straight into a pole or another car.
My beautiful limited Chanel glasses were gifted to me. I cried when they broke 1) because they were a gift; 2) because I couldn’t immediately afford a good pair of frames like these myself while paying student loans. I was hoping a settlement would come through to pay for them, but since I won’t be holding my breath, I bit the bullet and on a whim I walked into Cohen’s Optical at 414 86^th Street in Bay Ridge. The best decision I’ve made in a very long time.
Dr. Alexis Kapoian and staff were at the height of true professionalism. I want to thank Dr. Kapoian, Yana, Alla, and Ínez, even the girl who gave me a ponytail holder, for all their efforts in assisting me in finding a beautiful frame, quality lenses, and most importantly assisting me in the financial help I needed via Care Credit. I truly walked away from this experience with deep gratitude and amazement at their patience, honesty, and kindness. Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting humanity back into customer service.
I invite everyone in the community to please give this store a chance with your business. I will be referring everyone I know to this Cohen’s Optical. They won’t let you down. Thank you again for the Mitzvah!

I am so glad i came to this place! The staff and service were amazing. Lourdes quickly looked up my insurance information and showed me what was covered. I had my exam done by a woman optometrist who was nice and thorough. She explained everything to me and told me what I needed. I have the beginning of cataracts and she explained everything. I next went to pick my glasses. Lourdes showed me beautiful frames that was covered by my DAVIS insurance. There is a huge selection of insurance frames. The frames she picked for me are stylish and fit me perfectly. I also said I was interested in colored contact lenses and Kelly explained about the colors. Love them!!! I ended up paying absolutely nothing for a great exam and glasses. I plan to go back for the contacts and will bring my husband and kids.
After looking around the different opticals in the area, I am glad I chose Cohens and would highly recommend this location.

This place was awful. The doctor who performed the eye exam was nice, capable, and quick. However, her front desk staff were awful. I went in with a coupon for $ 99 pair of glasses (including single vision lenses, just limited to a specific selection) and the coupon said up to a prescription of +/​-​4.00 and a cyl of 2. When I presented my coupon, she said because my prescription was strong the glasses including lenses would come out to $ 199. My prescription was only −2.00÷−2.25, WELL WITHIN THE COUPON PARAMETERS. She tried to rip me off for an extra $ 100. THEN on top of that, she said the coupon I presented for a $ 20 eye exam would no longer be valid because I didn’t want to buy the glasses anymore. THEN she tried to tell me she didn’t take my insurance, Federal health insurance. I overheard the other desk attendant try and tell the customer who had their exam after me the same spiel, and they might have been less aware of how to read a prescription (and coupon). Bottom line, they are false advertising because they would not honor their coupons. Avoid this location at all costs.

These ladies and gentlemen at the Bay Ridge location were amazing. I lost my glasses over the holidays, so I was blind as a bat. So I looked into a Groupon for Cohen Optical and made an appointment for the optometrist there. They took me in immediately and got me my new prescription in a matter of minutes. Michael, the sales rep there took me to select the frames that were appropriate for my face and prescription strength. He was funny, honest and most of all, sincere. He placed the order in immediately to expedite the lenses. Less than 24 hours later, I had my new glasses and could see the world. A big hearty thank you to the folks here at this location.

On My first visit I was very disappointed staff was not very friendly.
I was unhappy with results of glasses found out by another doctor that they were unaligned measurements were off. I went back to get them to adjust they were extremely rude and didn’t want to admit their mistake. Stay away from this store and go to a reputable vision center.

Amazing customer service!
I went in with a prescription from my fancy Manhattan Neuro-​opthamologist so when Cohen’s recommended I let them do an eye exam anyway I said no I have a prescription «I trust my doctor, he knows what i need»
Famous last words! My doctor completely messed up my prescription so when i picked up my beautiful new glasses, took them home, wore them for a bit I then realized my new fancy glasses made things worse
Back to Cohens the next day– crying — they called the docotor who admitted he made a mistake !
Cohen’s fixed everything for me, they gave me an eye exam and had me walk around for a long time looking at things to try out different lenses to make sure this pair would be the right pair. I picked them up today and they are so much better.
Everyone at Cohen’s is so nice and professional and they really treated me well, they went above and beyond for me — I appreciate it more then words can say

I had a great experience at this Cohen’s location. The customer service, in particular Kelly, was great. My eye exam was thorough and both the doctor and Kelly spent a lot of time with me to discuss options for eyewear and contacts. I would definitely go back.

I have been coming here for years to get glasses and contacts in addition to eye appointments. I have never been disappointed with the customer service. Several occasions I have had to come here for tiny adjustments and they were happy to help. The eye doctors who take you for the appointments are always so nice. Today I went in to get new glasses and contacts and the female doctor was patient and lovely !
One time that my eye was really hurting me and it was late at night and Cohens was open and the doctor saw me and just explained that it was my contacts (silly me)
They are always there to help you. The sales girl that helped me pick out my glasses genuinely wanted to find a frame that looked nice on my face. I love good customer service!
Overall if you want to get frames or lenses I recommend cohens because they are there to help you and treat their customers like gold!

Friendly professional and courteous staff made sure I had my glasses in a timely fashion

My experiences at this store are always great, I have been a loyal customer for years. I trust the staff and their knowledge and love products that are offered. Within the last three years I have purchased three pairs of glasses and one pair of sunglasses, I love them all and could not be happier. The selection is impressive and the frames are unique, I receive so many compliments on my frames. While making my last purchase, a pair of sunglasses, the employee was patient with me and gave great advice as I could not decide between two pairs. I ended up purchasing the (much) cheaper of the two; we decided they «fit me» better, clearly they want the customer to be happy rather than just being concerned with financial gain. I highly recommend this store and location.

The Service is the worst I’ve ever seen in my life the store should be Closed immediately. The women that work in the front store especially the big Ukraine women are so rude to customers. I have shopped in this store from time to time for many years but I hadn’t been in there for a couple years, it was run by a fine gentleman in the past. Recently I made an appointment for an eye exam I had a coupon for a $ 20.00 re-​fraction. This woman told me the coupon was only good towards the purchase of new glasses, of course that was not true, the coupon said nothing about purchasing new glasses. She was the rudest person I’ve ever met in my life I, left the store. I then went to the Cohens on 23^rd Ave. and 86 street. The people in that store were kind courteous and of course they honored the coupon with out a purchase. Stay away from this store.

Extremely shady sales girl. I believe her name was Iris. She operates like a low level car salesmen. After the eye exam she directed us to the frames, which at that point we let her know we wished to keep the existing frames and switch out the lenses. Iris immediately became ICY! We looked passed it and asked how much were the Crizal No-​Glare lenses, she stated they are very expensive, they cost $ 150. So we mentioned that we thought they were about $ 75. iris said oh thats the cheap coating. Crizal is expensive its the top of the line. So I asked can she do better on the price, to which she responded Crizal are expensive I cant do anything. So we asked if we can come back, we wanted to get a drink and talk about what would be best. Iris said sure. Then Iris stated that she can do $ 125 for the Crizal No-​Glare lenses. As we walked out she said that we need to come back today because either way she was going to submit the visit to our insurance company and that we would lose our benefits. So we came back and asked a if the price for the Crizal included the lense, she said no that it would be additional but the insurance company would cover it. So we decided to go for the Crizal No-​Glare lenses for $ 125. At that point she started sound like a cars salesman and changing her story about the price. She danced so much about how there are a few different kinds of Crizal No-​Glare lenses and they are basically all the same and that she likes to start with the top price. in the end she said she didnt offer us the Crizal No-​Glare lenses for $ 125. So we decided to just go with regular lenses. She became a bitch and threw the receipt towards us and told us «they will call you» when the lenses are ready… and walked away. We left wondering when did buying lens become just as bad as buying a used car?! Needless to say we called our insurance company and complained and let them know we only received an eye exam and nothinging else. We don’t want Iris to submit a claim for a whole visit like she stated she was going to do if we did not return While the eye exam portion was pleasant, the rest of the experience was not. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

The worst customer service possible. Forget the bait and switch. i went to get a normal pair — there is nothing complicated about my glasses. When I came in — I didnt even mention by insurance so the sales lady as she was showing me different pairs and at that point the price of each pair was the small white plastic sticker on the top right lens of each pair. Once they learned I had insurance, the manager stepped in and every pair I was showed (and the ones I saw before) was $ 100-​$ 150 more expensive then the sticker price, there by nullifying the amount paid by my insurance. I asked why that was the case, and the answer I received is that now the sticker price isnt the real price. Thats a bit low in my book. I really dont mind spending the money for a good pair but this place is simply ridiculous. Their optician is pretty good though and is really helpful

I’ve worn glasses since third grade, and I’m now 52 — and at Cohen’s, for the first time since I was eight, I found frames that I *love* instead of just feeling like «(sigh) I can live with these». Kelly was amazingly helpful; she knew her stock really well, and she quickly got a sense of what my style preferences were as well as what looked good on me. I also wanted to get a new set of lenses for my reading glasses, and Kelly steered me to a way to get a much better deal on them. All this, and open seven days a week, too!

Awful customer service… from one lady in particular. I went in there with a Groupon for an «eye exam and $ 200 toward prescription glasses» and was greeted by a woman who had no idea what I was talking about. She argued with me for a couple of minutes before asking her manager what to do. He understood what the Groupon was for and told her what I had been telling her all along. I asked her what the cheapest frames in the store were and she told me «$ 149.00». I asked repeatedly, «Are you sure there aren’t any that are cheaper??» because I found it hard to believe that even the «cheap» plastic ones were that price. Finally, she admitted that the cheapest was $ 99. I called her out on her shady behavior and she told me that I should go buy glasses somewhere else! She then proceeded to tell me that this voucher was NOT for a free pair of glasses. I wasn’t expecting a FREE pair, but I was expecting to get the most out of the deal. This wasn’t a coupon; it was a GROUPON. I did pay money for the actual Groupon. She was so rude, and lying about the prices?!! Unprofessional and completely unacceptable behavior. I left without buying anything. AND I called Groupon and got a refund.

Cohen’s is a clean store with friendly and helpful staff members. I love the fact that they changed my daughters eyeglass lenses in one hour while other places keep them for a week. I defiantly recommend it!

I’ve always had my eye on Cohen’s but like Jessica A. said, Cohen’s can be hit or miss depending on the location, staff, etc. Luckily my first experience with Cohen’s was a great one. I only went to the Bay ridge location because it was near my job (Century 21) and the also accepted my health insurance (which a surprising amount of eyeglass stores don’t) and they had a $ 99 eyeglass deal which covered lenses, fashion frames and the exam.
I’ve been walking around with broken glasses since July of 2011 and as soon as I walked into Cohens one of the workers said, «I’m gonna make sure you leave this store today with brand new glasses».
First I must say, the selection they had for the discount frames was the best I’ve seen so far. It was so hard to choose a pair!
Secondly, I had told them before that I did not wish to get polycarbonate lenses because I was y’know, shopping on a budget (I’m only 18 so 160 bucks on a pair of glasses is A LOT for me). When they realized that the plastic lenses were too thick for the frames they said they’d give me the polycarbonate lenses for only 30 bucks. That’s half off the normal price.
Like the worker said, by the time I left the store, I was wearing brand new trendy frames. All in less than 1hr. That’s the quickest I’ve ever received glasses.
But it gets better! My glasses only lasted one day because I bought the day before New Years Eve and eventually lost them at a party. I came back to this Cohen’s in hopes of re-​buying the same frames, unfortunately the $ 99 dollar deal was over though and they didn’t carry the frames I originally bought.
Not only did they order the frames I originally had, they also gave them to me for the same price!
Never have I ever been so satisfied with customer service.

I was gently approached by a salesman by the name of Nick. He was very professional, patient, and knowledgeable of exactly what I was looking for. He considered my style and shape of my face. I shopped around to other stores, but found myself going back to Nick and the quality of service. He also worked out the price! Ask for him!

Cohen’s can obviously be hit or miss: it all depends on which one you go to. I’ve been patronizing this one for years and have never had anything but a good experience. They can normally fit me in within a day, which is awesome. I’ve seen two different eye docs here — both were great. Also happened to meet someone a long time ago who I think was the owner, and he was especially friendly. I just get a good vibe from this place in a way I don’t expect from a chain.
Obviously Nick is the shining star. I hadn’t been to the store in over a year; he remembered my job, the friend I came in with last time, etc. All the things you rarely find in customer service anymore.
I’ve only gone there for contacts so can’t really speak to their glasses selection; but Nick did help my friend pick out two frames that look great on her, and she still likes three years later.

The only glasses chain my family has used for years. We tried the Bensonhurst location but I didn’t care for the workers nor did I trust one woman as far as I could throw her. The Bay Ridge location has all friendly staff and a pretty nice selection. My last two glasses I got from here always got and still get major compliments from others.
They also have an in house eye doctor which was alright and with the coupon, worth money you’ll pay for the most part. But if you can go to a regular eye doctor, I suggest it.
