I haven’t been to the physical brick-​and-​mortar store of Classic Specs, but I had a GREAT experience with their website! I used their free Try-​On service: you pick 5 frames from the website that you’d like to try on, and they send them to you with free shipping and a pre-​paid box to send them back. It was very fun and convenient to try on all the frames at home! I then picked the ones I liked best, sent the samples back in the pre-​paid box, and then bought the ones I wanted from the website. I love the frames I picked, and I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on them! Very pleased with this service and would definitely use it again!

Wonderful company with fantastic customer service. Very exciting they started offering progressives. They bend over backwards to make sure your glasses fit great. Highly recommend and will definitely shop there again in future. And if you shop in-​store in Williamsburg, allow extra time to browse Brooklyn Denim, too!

I love Classic Specs! I’ve been wearing glasses from CS now for three years. Excellent quality that last forever at a great price. I’m able to buy multiple pairs to match different outfits, moods and seasons which is a luxury I enjoy. The quality on each of my regular glasses has exceeded my expectations. All of my experiences with Customer Service have been excellent. When I ask for a detailed receipt for Flexible Spending, it’s in my in-​box in minutes.
I did not like one pair of sunglasses that I ordered because the lenses greatly exaggerated reds and oranges which distracted me and strained my eyes. The reason that did not affect my 5-​star rating is because I was told I could return them if there was a problem with them. I felt that it was a preference issue on my part, not a problem with the glasses so I did not return them. But since the option was given to me, I again have to say that my experience with Customer Service has been outstanding.
I highly recommend them, the store and online. I live upstate and ordering online has been painless and perfect.

WHHHEEEERE do i start?
i ordered my glasses on 9 – 10 days ago with promises that i would receive them by no later than the end of the week within payment. i still haven’t gotten a shipping confirmation email — or any emails in fact even after i had emailed them asking about my order. to make matters worse, i check my bank statement to see i had gotten charged an extra $ 20… for what??? i am literally clueless.
so i call classic specs to find out what the heck is going on and i find out my frames are out of stock. if they’re out of stock, whyyyyyy did the guy at the store tell me they should be arriving to my house in a matter of days??? and wwwwhyyyyyy didn’t i get an email saying that they’re out of stock? were you guys just going to let me wait until forever came to receive my glasses or expect me to forget about my order? and why didn’t anyone respond to my email? and WHYYY didn’t you email to confirm the extra $ 20 charge with me if you guys felt like i needed the premium lenses??? i guess you can just charge me whatever you want without letting me know anything about anything. sounds alright, huh?
horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE customer service/​communication.
my excitement for my glasses has now become a salty, bitter, distaste for this company. first AND last pair from this place (if i ever receive it). i’ll just dish a little more at Moscot next time to avoid this crap.

I only wear my glasses for a few hours at night so I really didn’t want to spend $ 500 plus on a new pair. I had heard of Warby Parker before, but never Classic Specs. I ordered an at-​home try on kit from both companies. I settled on Classic Specs. The first style I ordered didn’t work out for me. They kept slipping even after an adjustment so I emailed them, and they said I could exchange them that that wouldn’t be a problem at all. I received my new pair in a timely manner. It took me awhile to get used to the new prescription since it was my first pair in years. I have an astigmatism and a somewhat high prescription, and Classic Specs didn’t have a problem at all filling it. I would not hesitant to order from this company again. It’s great getting to try on and order glasses from the comfort of my own home.

I went over on a sunny Sunday afternoon to the Brooklyn Denim location. Inside, there was a glass counter with cases of eyeglasses and sunglasses on the wall. Larry was very attentive and helped me pick out just the right frames for me (Verona). He noticed my eye prescription only had one PD, and quickly offered to take my PD for both eyes with the machine. The glasses look well-​made and tasteful, and are reasonably priced ($ 89 for frames and prescription lenses).
Definitely go check them out at the store (which has the added bonus of being in a fun Williamsburg neighborhood you can wander around afterwards) and try them on, or go online!

I bought glasses from Classic Specs at Brooklyn Flea in 2011 (which they warrantied for me in 2014). They came out perfect. The glasses served me well for 3 years and I decided to get a new pair from them. The new pair showed up, but the lab messed something up. I returned the glasses to the store in Williamsburg to be replaced. I got an email the next day informing me that the color I ordered had been discontinued. When I went back to the store to seek an alternative I found the same frame in a different color which suited me. The new pair came in a few days later and were fine.
Summary: Excellent customer service, but you may have an issue with the lab filling your script.

I got my glasses here 6 months ago, but wanted to thank Mackenzie for being incredibly nice and patient with my indecisiveness… in the end I found some glasses I really liked. People always ask where I got them. I found their designs to be more understated and flattering than WP’s (which tend to overwhelm my face).

The guy behind the desk/​computer was EXTREMELY helpful! Man, I love to have positive encounters with passionate employees. I was just browsing for some frames and not really making a purchase. He went above and beyond to make sure I found a pair that I liked. He even pulled out a pair that was hiding in his drawer. I totally felt exclusive at that point.
$ 89 bucks for frames and prescription. Not too shabby.

Was thinking about going to Warby Parker until I read about the crowded store. Somehow I found CS in my phone and decided to give it a shot. MacKenzie picked out a pair that really matched my head shape/​facial features. I’ve even been getting a few compliments on them. I forgot my old glasses at the store and they even shipped that on the house. Also, I saw a sale that was happening AFTER I purchased and they still honored the discount. Because of this and the fact that I had to get an RX from Cohen’s, the glasses took a bit longer to arrive — but totally worth the wait.
PS the glasses pinched one of my ears when they were new. I was going to go to the store to have them adjusted but didn’t have time and after a month so, they stopped hurting.

After identifying my prescription was out of their range (I am very farsighted), I emailed them back suggesting they identify what the upper range they were able to handle is on their website… and they have written back a lovely email and are going to work with me after all. And every email response i have had with them has been written by an actual person who has been incredibly polite.
I am verimpressed with this company.
Also — their glasses are cute!

warby parker isn’t the only cheap, hip, high-​quality eyewear company out there.
i was previously impressed by wp’s business, and had purchased a pair of sunglasses about a year ago after visiting the showroom in their corporate office. i’ve been happy with them, but i recently started looking for something new. after visiting warby’s greene st. store recently, i found their branding excessive, their customer service overbearing, and the glasses underwhelming. so, i headed to classic specs’ humble counter in the back of the brooklyn denim company. i was surprised at how nearly every single pair looked great, and i know, because i tried on every single one. and, despite the fact that the single employee was at the tiny counter the whole time, i never felt pressured or guilty for taking so long. i ended up purchasing a pair of glasses from classic specs, and i’m glad i did.
it’s too bad this great company is so overshadowed by warby parker’s hype. because there are other really great companies out there that actually focus on their product, and not creating some ultra-​hip brand.

I love Classic Specs! Their staff is friendly, polite, and prompt with fulfilling customer requests. This morning, I stepped on my glasses when I woke up, and called to ask about getting a replacement. Mackenzie offered to put a complimentary rush on getting me some new frames, because I don’t have any other glasses or contacts. As always, thank you for being so great! I highly recommend checking out their showroom, too. It’s cozy, cute, and super welcoming.

Since the wife told me about this place I’ve been smitten. I stopped by to try on some frames, but didn’t really need to because of the tool on their website.
A couple weeks later I got my eyeballs checked and sent in an email with the request. It was promptly returned by Mackenzie who graciously held my hand through the process and put a rush order on my new pair.
I’m loving them, and you can’t beat the price. I’ll be back!

My wife and I both got a pair of new glasses from Classic Specs and we love them. Simple, sophisticated design in a great product. We picked them out right at their Williamsburg showroom (Brooklyn Denim Co) and it couldn’t have been easier. They even helped track down my wife’s prescription from her opthamologist. The quality of the glasses is top notch, and you can’t beat the price. Whether you’re buying these for everyday wear, or simply getting an extra pair to keep as a backup, these are excellent frames for the price. Add in that they include prescription lenses and it’s an absolut steal. (I now keep a spare pair in my luggage for when I travel.) Have recommended to several friends, all of whom rave about their new specs. One tip: make it easier for everyone and call your opthamologist or optician before you go to get a copy of your prescription.

Situated inside Brooklyn Denim Company, Classic Specs is an eye wear gem! Although someone is not always at the counter, simply ask one of the Brooklyn Denim Co. workers and someone will assist you, easy as that. As for my experience, I have nothing bad to say. Andrew helped me select my frames and I could not be happier. He did not stop selecting frames for me to try on until I was happy.
When I picked my glasses up, I got a lovely case, a small drawstring pouch that has doubled as my lens cloth and a nifty tote bag. Everything was so easy and at a great price, which is hard to come by when getting frames. I would highly recommend this place to anyone as my friend did for me.

I paid less for a pair of glasses AND a pair of prescription sunglasses than I would’ve paid for just frames at some places.

Purchased a total of three pairs from web store. Could not be happier with the product. Great frames, quality lenses, and care in production. The frames, low prices and great customer service is the trifecta.
