I ordered food to go, the guy one the phone was hard to understand and forgot to take down my address and debit card. I could hear phones ringing in the background and I was placed on hold multiple times within just one phone call. Before I could ask how long the food could be, he hung up. I got a FaceTime from a random number a little later. I didn’t answer, given that it was an unknown number. The same number tried again. Right after I got a phone call from the number, it was the delivery guy, he simply said he was outside. I buzzed him in then received another phone call saying he was still outside, I buzzed him in yet again. He called again and told me he to come down because he did not want to go up. While I understand he probably had a large delivery list, it would have been nice to be told that before hand. While I was walking downstairs, he called me two additional times. He was very very pushy and seemed rude. When I got downstairs, he stood over me while I filled out his tip. I felt very intimidated. The food was okay, it’s what you pay for. But the service is absolutely terrible.

Easily the best cheap take-out Chinese place in the local area. Their egg rolls are fluffy and crispy, their scallion pancake portions are generous and artery-cloggingly greasy, and they also have a wider Vegetarian option than most other nearby areas! The General Tso’s Bean Curd is delicious, give it a try!

I give four stars because the price point on this place is really down to earth compared to the portion size and quality. It’s not a super gourmet place — it’s straightforward American-Chinese food. The staff has always been nice, courteous and fast.

I’ve got to chime in with the others — «ordinary» really is the best word for it. What I like about this place is that it’s literally around the corner from me — but that’s about the only edge they have over every other Chinese place in the neighborhood. Oh, and the selection is a bit wider — but only a bit. The prices are standard, the food is decent(though my chicken had a slightly bitter taste to it last time, which put me off), and the actual location is a bit dirty, a bit unnerving, but hey — that’s most of the Chinese restaurants around here, right? I’ll be back of course, over and over. Again, being right around the corner is its only edge, but kind of a major one. Lastly, there seems to be some talk about the packaging in other reviews, but I didn’t notice anything of particular interest there either. My chicken came in the clear and white plastic container, the rice in the folded up paper boxes. Ordinary!

This place charged my card then called me 45 minutes later to tell me that I was out of the delivery range. Absolutely ridiculous.

Ordinary. China City is your ordinary corner store Americanized Chinese food take out place. You will find all of the food on their menu at any other«Chinese» restaurants, with maybe the exception of scallion pancakes(YUM!) For the past couple of months I have been training myself to eat cleaner, healthier and to pay attention to ingredients. So imagine my excitement when I learned that I could eat from a greasy Chinese food joint but opt for the health options! Last night I ordered steamed shrimp and broccoli, brown rice with garlic sauce on the side. I also ordered some scallion pancakes. I know I shouldn’t have but I thought hey, it’s okay to cheat once in a while! The food was decent, ordinary, nothing spectacular, but better than most I’ve had in Brooklyn. I wasn’t looking to be blown away, but I was surprised how normal I felt after eating. Usually after eating«Chinese» food, I feel lethargic and sluggish– not a good feeling at all. But after I ate the food last night, I was pleasantly satisfied and didn’t feel gross! I have never been to the physical location but they deliver very quickly. My meal arrived in 15 minutes.

The General Tso Chicken and Chicken Lo Mein dishes are quite good, but they can be heavy on the soy sauce for the Lo Mein. I find the Sweet & Sour Chicken to have too much batter, almost sickening. I do not recommend that dish. Also, the egg rolls are a little too bland and thick. Reasonably priced though.

As much as I like China City – and god bless them, they’re the closest Chinese joint to me and the best in the neighborhood as far as I’ve had – I have to disagree with my buddy Roni S. on a contentious point: their packaging technology is substandard. I got some General Tso tonight and it was in a styro clamshell, and the plastic containers they use otherwise are a strange, brittle variety that blows apart when you open it from the wrong corner. The white poly containers are far superior and can be found at most other Chinese emporia. Worth reusing, in fact… they’ll be in your fridge longer than the residual leftover smells.

Okay, I admit, I was seduced by their sharp menus with«sleek» graphic design, eurostile typeface, and seemingly exotic dishes that I could not find in any of the other chinese menus stuffed under my doormat. That, and I’m dead broke right now. China City is one of the few chinese restaurants that accepts cards. How’s the food? It’s okay, a hair better than the rest, with much better packaging for takeout. Forget styrofoam! These guys use the hard plastic stuff! I like how when I order deliver, these guys never spill or destroy my food. One problem I do have is that they don’t buzz my door or take the elevator up for delivery. They’ll call my phone and I have to meet them on the sidewalk. I guess you win some, you lose some. Really though, chinese food and credit cards. The two things you always regret when reality hits.

Went here yesterday since I got tired of going to my old Chinese place since the food has been going downhill. Ordered some General Tso Chicken(pretty much the standard) and some Fries to go. The Chicken was awesome, my only complaint on it would probably be that there wasn’t much sauce left after I finished eating it to mix in with the rice. The Fries carried well on the way home since the guy preparing the food was smart enough to punch holes in the top so it wouldn’t get all soggy, most other places won’t bother doing that. It’s one of tons of Chinese food places in Bed-Stuy but so far I’m pretty pleased with how good it was for a cheaper price than my old place.

It’s a Chinese food spot that probably sells more orders of chicken wings and fries(4.50) than anything else. Part(or all) of that might be due to its proximity to the projects… the egg rolls(1.25 each) are pretty good. Most of the time I get an order of the fried rice(3.50) along with a couple of the egg rolls… Pepsi and Coke products in cans are available. It’s your typical ghetto Chinese food spot; take it or leave it. I live less than a block away, and aside from once every 6 weeks or so, I’ll leave it.
