Our hands-​on staff will help to design the perfect treatment for you artwork — whether it’s art on paper, canvas or fabric –with over 1,500 samples to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect framing solution. We specialize in plexibox frames, welded aluminum and steel frames, gold-​leaf frames and mission-​style, hardwood frames.

History

Established in 1997.

Brooklyn Frame Works was started with one purpose in mind: to provide high-​quality, custom framing services for all types of artwork. Partners George and Corinne shared a love of art and after co-​managing a vintage poster restoration studio in the 90s, a deep understanding for the proper care and preservation of art was forged.

Through the years we’ve established a solid reputation in our Brooklyn community — providing both highly stable and aesthetically pleasing framing solutions for our client’s artwork. Our ever-​growing selection of antique and modern prints and our semi-​annual gallery shows and events are designed to reflect the current interests and tastes of modern art and design.

I’ve had a few items framed here.
Staff: Agree with other reviewers here who have had rude service. It is more often than not that they do not seem to be interested in making you feel welcome.
Cost: $$$$.
Quality: Framing is very good/​excellent quality.
Timeline: Weeks for not very complex orders.
Conclusions:
Given location, I feel people would go here because of location only. Very high cost, excellent quality; inconsistent service.

Was just in this store and the guy that works there is THE rudest guy I’ve ever met!!! I was literally standing next to him saying «excuse me» several times and he completly ignored me even after I waved at him for attention (this is a tiny store) and he def heard me! Don’t know what his deal is but if it’s to not make business and treat his customers like total crap then he is succeding! Good luck I will let everyone know how bad customer service they have and I will be taking my business elsewhere!

Expensive but quality.
These guys are pricey but most good frame shops are. They are very helpful and if you let them help you, you’ll end up with something you still like years down the road.

I have walked by a zillion times, but finally popped in with a friend who wanted to buy her fiancée a framed print. They were very welcoming despite it being slightly past 7, their closing time. They do have a nice selection of NY-​centric prints, but they didn’t have frame we wanted, unfortunately. Also, their turnaround time seemed long but perhaps they just have a lot of orders to fulfill. Overall, they have an extremely helpful staff, and although I always think framing shops’ prices tend to be on the high side, I would absolutely go there again.

Great custom framing! Had a graduation gift done here. Great service, friendly and helpful. I had an extremely tight time frame and a few odd requests. Everyone was flexible and worked within my deadline. I am very happy with the finished product.

I have had a few pieces framed here and have been extremely pleased with all of them. I’ve worked with the same guy a couple of times and he’s always been patient with me, especially when I probably take far too long to make my decision. They offer a huge selection of frames and I always appreciate their suggestions and ability to offer less expensive options.
As for the comments from other reviewers regarding price and turnaround time, having a piece framed well is going to cost you money and will take time. The quality of their frames and work is well worth the money spent. My pieces have always taken a couple of week, never longer, and most recently, when I told them I needed something on a date earlier than they estimated, they were able to accommodate me and had it ready a few days earlier than promised.

I’m a graphic designer and collect a good range of art, which I like to have framed. I’ve worked with at least six places in the city, three in Brooklyn, and Brooklyn Frameworks has been the best experience hands down.
The staff is knowledgeable and patient and their work is consistently satisfying. I’ve had four pieces of various sizes framed here and each one came out beautifully.
As for pricing, there are places in Park Slope that will really try to milk you for your dollar, Brooklyn Frameworks is NOT one of these places. Various materials cost different amounts, and if you give them a budget for your framing project, they will suggest suitable materials to fit that budget.
If you’re complaining about prices for custom framework in general, you have to realize that by default, this is a pricey thing to do. If you have standard size posters or artwork that you’d like framed, it is much easier to buy a prebuilt frame. You can also buy a prebuilt frame and bring it to a framer to have a custom matte added, which is infinitely cheaper than having a new frame built from scratch.
As for turnaround times, this is not just a matter of labor. If you are choosing a custom frame border, the shop has to order the materials, wait for them to be shipped and then build the frame for you.
If you are taking the time and money to go through with custom framing, you should also be patient. This is not a fast food industry, and if you want something less detail oriented, again, go buy a frame at an art supply store or Bed Bath and Beyond.
If you need custom framing done, I highly recommend working with Brooklyn Frameworks.

Their turnaround time is ridiculous, and it is mondo expensive.
I brought in two small pieces to be framed and was told there would be a 3 ½ to 4 week turnaround time. It’s goin’ on 5+ weeks now, and still they’re not finished. For those prices, they could hire a few more staff members to get the job done quicker! I don’t doubt their skill, but I will look for another framer before going back to these guys again.

Long story short:
I requested a simple mat to be cut for a print & vintage frame I had previously purchased. I knew the exact measurements and type of mat I wanted, and went to the shop with this request. (I worked at a framing shop for 4 years of art school, so I knew what I needed.) The worker acted annoyed that I didn’t bring in my artwork with me and that I only required a mat– not a full out frame. (I also had previously called the shop to make sure they cut mats.) Also, the employee second guessed my request with the assumption that I only measured my print, not the actual window of the mat.
Before the transaction took place, the worker said he didn’t have anything to put around the mat and told me he’d have to go search for it. (If I had called earlier and you said you cut mats, what have you been wrapping them in??) Also, there was a giant roll of brown craft paper that was sitting in their show-​room that he could have used. Instead, he came back with a super thin plastic sleeve which he used It was ripped in the corners. When I got home, I realized it was also dirty on the outside AND inside and had stained the mat.
I can’t rate their actual quality of work because I was so off put by their lack of courtesy, professionalism & service, but that counts considerably and I will not go back, nor recommend them.
Cost for 22“x28″ plain, un-​cut, rag white mat: $ 50.

I have had 2 items framed from these guys, they did a great job but it was very very expensive. I dont think they are smug, i think they are just not sociable. Which is bad but you cant judge a business if the employees are socially inept. Their work is very good they customer interaction and social abilities not so much.

Love this place. Cool artwork (prints, subway maps, japanese prints). So many choices for customized frames. Friendly and extremely helpful staff. I’ve purchased two pre-​framed pieces here and had them fame a photograph and I love the way they look.
It’s on the pricey side, but well worth it.
If you’re ever in Park Slope, it’s definitely worth checking out.

My first 1 star… for 4 reasons:
1) surly
2) pricey
3) late on delivery
4) surprisingly blatant lack of customer service
Totally agree with the other reviews here… complete «smugness with every transaction.» We always support local businesses as much as we can, but certainly not this one with the ‘tude of the dude who works there.
On the most recent choice occasion (and there have been a few that included late delivery of the finished product, layered with plenty of arrogance), we were standing in line behind a guy finishing up a payment transaction — and the sales guy saw us walk in with smiles on our face and patiently wait… no «hello» as we entered, mind you, but so be it… and then someone else came in behind us a few minutes later with a very large print to frame… and he immediately went directly to help them instead!
Sure, we were only looking to buy one of his $ 50 prints in the window, but wow — pretty blatant lack of customer service. He must be doing surprisingly well in this economy not to bother with social decency…
NYC /​BK definitely have many other, more deserving framing merchants to patronize.

Based on my personal experience, if customer service figures into just an iota of determining who you patronize either avoid this business altogether or don’t in any way divulge or display cultural elements of your identity that may fit into any negative stereotypes.
I perceived noticeable condescension from two employees on separate occasions during the delivery and pickup of pictures left to be framed. They were surly and dismissive even when I was overtly gracious and amicable. Given the content of the items being framed, it’s laughable and ironic for the bad treatment, too.
The actual framing was good without any major blunders, but not impeccable with multiple waves in the paper. Although the the products were not exorbitantly expensive, they were a far cry from inexpensive.
To be fair, two stars instead of one for the actual work.
