Billy’s Lock & Security Service

Once again, Billy’s has come through. They cut a key to my cylinder from my supplied blank for my vintage (1966) vehicle after I lost my door/​trunk key. They did it quickly, courteously, and at a very reasonable price. I will always go to Billy’s when I need anything lock related. They’re just the best.

Hurrah for Billy’s. I called Empire locks to have a simple barrel lock replaced. they came and a guy gave me a quote for $ 336 and looked surprised when I said ‘no thanks’. Called Billy’s the whole experience was better — articulate person on the phone, lovely guy came to the house. He was intelligent — we had a great chat he went above and beyond and repaired another loose part on the door at no extra charge. Use these guys — they were honest and reliable.

Never been in their store but this review is about their kind and extremely generous employee. A man who works here was making a delivery in another key shop where I was trying to get a key duplicated. I asked the man working there if they took plastic. He said no, cash only. That’s when the Billy’s man standing next to me offered to pay for it for me! I was touched. Thank you kind guy. He treated me like gold and I’m a stranger. 5 stars.

Excellent customer service. Fast quick and friendly. Very mannerly staff affordable prices. Easy to get to. In and out in less than 5 minutes with 4 new keys that work perfectly.

The folks at Billy’s Locksmith are nothing short of top-​notch professionals. Truth be told, I’ve never gotten anything but keys from them. But, customer service (a dying priority in many businesses today) seems to me to be of paramount concern to them.

Needed a locksmith ASAP for a lock change so I «googled» and found this close by shop. Anthony and Wayne showed up quickly and switched out the lock in no time with extra keys on hand. They also tightened up some screws and adjusted something we had overlooked. Thank you Anthony and Wayne for your professional and friendly service. Will be calling back with any other locksmith needs.

They’re so good you don’t always need them! I came in for help cutting off a padlock in an outside space, but instead of taking lots of money to do that, he suggested WD-​40 to see if loosening it would do the trick. It did, and I now know they are helpful, honest, and definitely someplace I’ll go back when I’m stuck again. Better service than the lock manufacturer!

I was 35 weeks pregnant and locked out of my apartment in 30 degree weather with my 2 year-​old and my dog. My key actually broke off while I was trying to unlock my door. I called Billy’s and 2 of the sweetest guys showed up within 5 minutes. Within another 5 minutes, the door was open, the broken key was extracted and my lock was greased so I wouldn’t have the problem again. They were so nice and they went above and beyond to help me out. I will never call another locksmith. Thank you, Billy’s!!!

These guys are the best! They fixed my impossible to open lock on my apartment door and made me 6 sets of new keys right on the spot. Craig was awesome! He even was so kind as to come back the following day to repair a jam in the entrance of the building entrance. Being 9 months pregnant I was concerned I would not be able to leave the building in case of an emergency. From the time I called to the time they arrived, not more than 5 minutes had passed. I think their response time rivals the fire and police departments. Thanks so much for excellent care and customer service!!!

These guys are the best! Billy, Billy Junior and Jeffrey all went above and beyond to help me replace the locks on my building and apartment door. Great service and incredibly generous people. I highly recommend them.

They own the building and are helpful when they feel like it. Finishing a personal conversation comes before helping customers and if you ask a lot of questions they get agitated and answer with, «I don’t know,» more frequently to give you the hint. A neighborhood staple and dinosaur but one I use only when necessary. Parking is a nightmare and available spaces are used by their vans. Their prices are a little high also. if you have an alternative place try it first.

$ 75 service charge for a guy to come over, take the door knob apart, to tell me that they don’t carry the part I need. That’s just greedy. I’ll pay the bill, but they’ll never get my business again.

I came here for a key duplicate and was delighted with great ol’ Billy senior. Friendly fella who is skilled and priced are fair. He even fixed the latch of my wallet for free.

I had a guest coming into town on short notice. I went down to Billys to have two keys made. After a 10 minute wait or so, they assisted me and gave me the duplicates. I walked back to my apartment (15 min) and tried the keys out — one worked and the other did not. So with closing time quickly approaching, I walked back to Billys and got there just in time. I told them it didn’t work and they asked if the key fit the hole or not. I noted it fit but didn’t turn. They took the duplicate (didn’t even care to match it up to the original), gave it a quick grind on whatever wheel is back there and said it should be all set. I walked back to my apartment and again, the key did not work. At this point, they were closed so I went to Aurora Hardware and got a duplicate made. That one worked first time through (and was cheaper).
Now I understand that keys sometimes work and sometimes don’t. And I had no problem really that the first duplicate didn’t work. But if I come back to the shop for a second time — I feel like a little more care is due to ensure that the second try works. Taking the bad duplicate and investing less than 3 seconds into determining what is wrong, only to have it not work the second time around is not appreciated. And, it wasn’t as if the original was bad because the other shop duplicated it with no problem.
So, never again for me.

Managed to break my key in the lock, dont ask how lol. Needed to get in ASAP so I called up Billy’s, spoke to Billy Junior who informed he needed to do 2jobs and then might be able to swing by (was already late afternoon). Told him it was kinda an emergency and I’d appreciate it if would be possible to do the same afternoon, he’d give me a call asap. He called me 25m later asking if I was around as he finished his other job faster then expected and had 15m before his other one, so he was at my apartment LITERALLY 5m after that! He basically got there 30m after speaking on the phone. Not bad to have both my lock fixed and a new key (they have mine on file) in an hour timeframe!

Few days ago while I was having a brunch in greenpoint I decided to have my building keys copied, because my usual locksmith don’t copy keys I went to Billy’s. I must say that They guy was really nice and they made my keys really fast (although they are hard to copy). When I came back to manhattan and tried the keys unfortunately they didn’t work;(I’m sure I can go back and try to get the money back, but it doesn’t worth the travel time.

I went out and purchased a good Schlage lock from my local home depot and had Billy’s guy come out and hook it up. I’d normally do this myself as I’m pretty handy, but I have a metal door on my apartment and didn’t have the holes drilled for it. Scott came out promptly and had the lock installed in about an hour. He took his time to explain the differences in locks for apartment doors and actually told me the lock I purchased was pretty good. I’m glad he didn’t tell me I had a piece of junk and try to sell me on something else. He tightened up the screws on the door hinges and on the other existing lock and went on his way. The price I was quoted was what I paid. Great customer service and Scott was extremely courteous.. Highly recommended!

Had my friend help me out copy my car key at Billy’s, made 2 copies of my honda accord. Not only do they have a better price than Home Deopot, they are very professional, def know their work, put a lot of heart and effort trying to help out the customer, the owner of the store came out of the store numerous times to test out the key. they even gave a free back up key. it’s hard to find a locksmith nowadays, and Billy’s is a place where they put out service above anything else.
Billy’s is my locksmith from now on! Highly recommeded!

I have used Billy’s for almost a year now. They are responsive and the guys who come out are great. However, they cannot seem to understand how to call before coming over. Many times i have missed them because they forgot to call and I was running errands. Also and more importantly, they do not warranty what they sell. Let me repeat that: THEY DO NOT WARRANTY WHAT THEY SELL. I paid a lot of money to have an automagic keypad and intercom system put in. It broke twice in less than a year. They charged me a full service trip each time with no breaks. Then they had the balls to tell me they put in a cheap door latch because they didn’t think I would pay the $ 400 for one that would last.
Anyway, find someone with a warranty.
