Big Apple Chimney, LLC.

I contacted Big Apple to help with a fireplace. They charged hundreds of dollars for the initial visit and then I never heard from them regarding the estimate/​scope of work that needed to be done. After calling repeatedly I finally got hold of them and they promised the estimate would be sent soon. Long story short, I needed to call and call and call until finally I received the outrageous estimate. I decided that even though I already paid them for the initial visit, there was no way I was going to use them for the actual repair. I am happy to say that I used another company that was much more responsive and the fireplace was repaired for a much lower price.

I have two fireplaces in my home, and I’d never used them. I decided to finally get someone to inspect and clean them.
Big Apple was the only place that returned my calls or internet queries (Sidebar: why do some handyman sites even bother listing an email address or posting a contact form? As a general rule, they NEVER respond…)
I can only host workmen on weekends — so we made an appointment for the very next Saturday, which was a nice surprise.
They showed up on time at 10am, did an inspection, and recommended caps and cleaning for the two chimneys, plus the same for an additional third chimney for the furnace /​hot water heater that I hadn’t even been thinking about.
Instead of making another appointment for later, the lead technician immediately brought in a couple more workers and they cleaned three chimneys, inspected their guts, installed three caps, and adjusted a damper, and cleaned up after themselves, all in about two hours, in and out.
I feared that the entire project was going to be a pain and was delighted to have it over and done with in just one Saturday morning. Definitely recommended. (Caveat: I haven’t actually used the fireplaces yet, but I expect no problems!)

I booked an appointment two weeks in advance. On the day of the appointment I waited the whole day and the technician did not show up. I called Big Apple and was told an emergency had come up, but that they would call me half hour before arriving. I never got that call or any call indicating that they would not make it on the day of the appointment. It is unprofessional for repair service companies to make you wait a whole day for their service, but to cancel without notice is outright abusive.

I used Jason with big apple chimney to install/​open up an old fireplace in my brooklyn brownstone. i did a bunch of renovations and construction work in this apt and used several companies, and i have to say that Jason was BY FAR the favorite of ALL the workmen I hired. He spent MANY tireless hours with me discussing my vision (i tend to be a bit OCD when it comes to getting what i want, but he remained patient and conscientious) and in the end the work was BEAUTIFUL and beyond what i had even imagined possible. Specifically, I had some brick work that the previous owners had painted with a shiny shellac and i wanted the bricks to look antiqued, he had to try several different techniques and would not settle for anything less than the exact look i wanted… this was extremely difficult to achieve but Jason did not stop until it was perfect. All of his crew members were nice, extremely professional, and very reliable — i have had a big problem in the past with many contractors completing 90% of the work and then disappearing with 100% of the money — not the case with big apple, the work was begun and completed exactly when they said it would be, 100%. My fireplace works great and is constantly complimented by my guests. I would recommend big apple to anyone in brooklyn wanting a beautiful and perfectly functioning fireplace!
