History
Established in 2008.
Beaner Bar is the collaborative effort of four Latinos: Jose, from Oaxaca; Lori, from L.A.; Rudy from East L.A., and Veronica from southeast Texas. Lori’s idea to open another business in the neighborhood (after her past successes with Lola’s and Pourhouse) included the muscle and ideas of the other owners. Soon the ideas, construction, colorful decoration, and original drink concoctions emerged. It is an extension of their home and culture. A coffee bar where neighbors are invited to enjoy drinks on the go or sit at the Mexican tiled bar to enjoy a few minutes in a personable, friendly, and often lively atmosphere. They seek to bring romance back to coffee, offer new and exciting drinks, be friendly to the environment, and bring the community together in a more intimate way. Come by and say hi and let them know how they can help satisfy your palate or the community. Charity, art, music, being «green» and helping frineds sell merchandise are of interest to them. Business Owner
Lori is a 16 year Brooklynite from the L.A. area. Her past business ventures served the Metropolitan/Graham Ave area’s drinking and eating needs (i.e. Lola’s and the Pourhouse).
Veronica is a Tex-Mex from Houston, NYer since ’01, Williamsburg/Greenpoint resident since ’03. Aside from helping run BBar, she is a preschool teacher, Special Education graduate student, and lover of fitness, music, and gardeninig.
Rudy hails from East L. A originally and was the vital force in the construction of Beaner. He is a skilled carpenter, painter, and musician. Catch his band, Cold Flavor Repair — funky with soul and rock. Catch him throughout the week working the bar.
Jose is from Oaxaca, Mexico, where the Dia de los Muertos festival is the biggest and best. He spent time on his grandfather’s coffee farm. See h
