John was excellent today in helping me find the best solution in eyewear for my active 6 year old. He showed us the Miraflex brand which was a perfect match for my son’s needs. He also explained the why behind the design and was very patient in answering my questions. Coming from impersonal interactions with chain eyeglass shops, it is refreshing to have that personal touch and individual attention.

Great place for glasses, I’m a big fan of this place. Definition of a Mom & Pop. They are both very knowledgeable and patient while you pick out your frames. Their attention to detail throughout the whole process is very much appreciated. You can’t go wrong going with Ansonia.

Went for 5 yr old’s glasses (first pair).
John worked with us. He was the perfect combination of a grandfatherly person with whom kids can be comfortable and a professional who wants to give best possible product to his client. Even if it means smaller profit margins.
John reminded me why we value mom and pop shops, and why that spirit can never be recreated by the big box stores.
While John fitted our son, he regaled us with stories of his kids and grand kids. Somehow dispensing parenting advice at same time he helped us pick glasses and keeping our 5 yr old engaged in frame /​color, etc.
Heartily recommend. And, it will be a sad day when they retire.

The very definition of a mom and pop store and a wonderfully friendly and helpful establishment. We’ve been going here for one of our son’s glasses since he was a baby (that’s almost 6 yrs now) and they have been so helpful and warm. It is an absolute pleasure to have a place like this in the Slope.
Btw, if you’re looking for kids glasses, they carry the superb Italian Miraflex line that are totally indestructible.

One of the few Mom and Pop stores still left in Park Slope. John and Sonia are fantastically attentive and literally bend over backward to provide the best possible service. They always remember my whole family by name (even when several years elapse between visits) and treat us like one of their family. Besides for that, John’s professionalism and attention to detail is unequaled by any optician I’ve ever done business with. He will notice and remember important details about your prescriptions, your taste, and your fit like no one else. I simply cannot recommend Ansonia Optical more highly.

I’m a big fan of Ansonia! The owner really knows his stuff with regards to making sure your lenses are made correctly and fit you perfectly. John doesn’t try to upsell you with stuff you don’t need, and I think his advice is helpful and honest. You’re always dealing with one of the husband-​and-​wife owners, and I like that.
The frame selection is well edited. I bought frames there three years ago and just had new lenses made for them because my prescription changed.

John at Ansonia Optical is a great craftsman when it comes to making the thinnest lenses for the most complicated eye issues. He also has a good eye for faces but he is never intrusive with his opinion. He doesn’t push for new glasses when the old ones can be repaired, which he does skillfully and charging only for parts if needed. He is kind and caring and has made my glasses for many years. Ansonia’s carries fashionable and a wide collection of frames.

My 5 year old got her first pair of glasses here and our experience has been wonderful. The relaxed atmosphere put her right at ease and we’ve been very happy with the quality & comfort of the glasses we were advised to choose. We’re now dealing with some adjustments to her glasses due to a prescription change and Ansonia has been very swift and accommodating. My daughter likes to wave or stop by & say hi when we pass the store.

I wish I could say I had a good experience. I ordered a pair of frames and they had the frames for 2 weeks and then sold them to someone else. No call. No apology. Rude. If you’re looking for a great optical experience in Brooklyn, then you won’t find it here.
Thanks to their lack of service, I was forced to look for the glasses somewhere else. They were charging $ 275 for the frames and I found them on
for $ 190 with great service.

Cool cat’s eyes. If you’re a Fabulous Fanny’s fan, you should visit here for wacky and subtle cats eyes, some with rhinestones, others plain. I found some frames here shaped more subtley than Fanny’s cat’s eyes, good if you don’t want to look 1950s but like the shape. The colors of the plastic are yummy — maroon, storm clouds, teal, like pretty boiled candy. The main brand is ‘Dolabany’.
There are some metal frames too. Reasonable prices.
