American Trust Flooring should not be trusted! If you don’t know much about refinishing floors then you would have no idea where these guys are lacking. They do not follow the industry standards. They lie. They don’t abide by the contract they sign. They don’t take any protective measure and cause damage to your home. They walked out in the middle of a job by texting me that they wouldn’t return to finish the job because the super would not let them work after hours. They were told in advance that this is a coop and coop rules of M-​F 9 – 5 apply. They told me they applied 2 coats of polyurethane except none of the polyurethane containers were open. They only applied one coat of sealer and tried to pass it off as two coats. Stay away.

Zoltan: Trying to call me after I put up a review is not helpful. Obviously you forgot how the situation transpired but let me remind you that you did not offer me a courtesy of a phone call informing me that you would not be completing the job. Your men spilled the stain on our balcony and did not clean it up. They left ALL construction debris on my balcony. Stop using awful subcontractors and then not standing by them. I offered to pay you before you even completed the job but you refused. Thank god because I used that money to hire some I can trust.

I found this company based on Unilocal reviews and was not disappointed. They did a phenomenal job, and at an unbeatable price. I had a hardwood floor installed throughout my entire 800 sq. ft. apartment.

Omg! My floors are freaking awesome and I love my new place even thought it’s temporary. I moved in 2 months ago and I told my landlord I would only move in if she installed hardwood floors, The next day these awesome gentlemen came and asked me what color I wanted and they installed it the same day. I liked the fact that they walked me through the whole process and they didn’t leave my house dirty or full of sawdust.

I’m a marketing rep for Liz Clairborne and my job requires me to go back and forth between California and New York City at least once a month. After doing this for over a year now I decided the best thing to do was to purchase a small condo close to headquarters. Of course I couldn’t afford to live that close so I had to settle for Brooklyn since the prices were some of the lowest in the area. The condo is nice but the floors were just a slab of cement, I mean ugghhh cement. The day after moving in I decided that I was going to get hard wood floors installed, there was no way I was going to wake up every morning and walk on freezing floors. I called my Real Estate agent and she recommended I use American Trust Flooring for my installation. I agreed and made an appointment with them to get an estimate the next day. The salesman came out and went over the options with me until I found the color and material I wanted. I went with the Cherry oak and my place looks better than ever. No more prison floors for this gal.

I contacted this place to get a quote to have my Livingroom and stair case refinished and they said the job was too small they only do either entire houses or companies. Don’t waste your time.

I found an apartment that answered all of my spacing, location and transportation needs. The only issue was the wall to wall, dark blue foul smelling carpet. I told the landlord, this carpet has to go before I move in. She agreed so off I went in search for the perfect flooring company.
My father was a master of many trades (electrical, plumbing, exterminator, pizza, flooring, the list goes on). There are two traits I look for when I hire anyone… Honesty and Dependability. I had learned early on that these were the two traits that kept my Dad’s businesses going.
I called several places (some of them featured here on Unilocal) for an estimate. Some of them didn’t return my call — not a great way to spread a good word about your business. Others stated the estimate was free but there was a nonrefundable measurement fee. Since I had the measurements, they provided the estimate over the phone. That is a little weird because you would actually need to SEE the space in order to provide the most honest estimate. Some said they didn’t travel to the South Bronx or provided me with an exorbitant estimate and time line. One company gave a «rough» estimate of 5K (with cheap underlayment and laminate) and two weeks to do the job. This is a two bedroom apartment not a palace.
After meeting with several other installers, I knew Zoltan was the one. When I met with him, I was 1. happy he came from Brooklyn to the Bronx 2. saw that he was not some lunatic 3. got straight to the point. I knew exactly what I needed to get the results I was looking for. Due to the concrete sub floor, there was no way I was going to settle for the cheap underlayment. In case you don’t know, cheap underlayment and a concrete sub floor is like teasing rabid dog… the ending will not be a pretty sight.
Zoltan took his time to measure the space, review the sub floor and answer my questions. He showed me several samples and suggested the best one for the look I wanted. He provided me with a very reasonable and honest estimate especially since I wanted a special rubber underlayment installed. He was honest when he said yes the rubber is the best but it also costs more. He didn’t try and downgrade me into a lesser priced underlayment which I also appreciated. I decided that in order to save a little money, I would remove the carpet myself (he also removes it if you want him to). He said that he would be able to complete the job in two days.
Once I removed the carpet, moldy foam (yes, foam gets moldy because it NEVER dries once it gets wet) and all of the wood framework around the perimeter of the apartment, I called Zoltan again. He came by to pick up the deposit and also looked at the bare sub floor. He seemed impressed that I actually removed the carpet in the time frame that I had promised — it was a great workout :) He confirmed that he would be able to start Wednesday afternoon. This was perfect because it provided time for the wet portions of the concrete to completely dry.
I called him Wednesday to check on the progress and he stated the job would be completed AHEAD of schedule. When I stopped by Thursday afternoon to view the current progress, he was sweeping up the dust from the brand new floors. The landlord still can’t believe he finished the entire job in less than one day. She immediately told him that she is going to hire him for her floors.
If I were to guess how much time I spent with Zoltan for this job, I would say less than 24 hours. One workday for the installation and about three hours for the time he spent on the estimate and pre-​install visit. This may not seem long for some people. I love that Zoltan didn’t waste any time nor did he allow this flooring job to consume my regular life.
The floors look and feel absolutely amazing. The special underlayment not only blocks sound but it makes the floors easier to walk on. The overall color of the scratch proof laminate is a beautiful oak finish. He even painted the quarter rounds the same color as the molding — didn’t charge extra for this. Even though, I didn’t set out to add value to the apartment, I am positive that Zoltan’s work did just that.
If you want honesty, dependability and beautiful work at a very reasonable price… please call Zoltan. I HIGHLY recommend him for any flooring work that you may need especially if you need it to be done correctly and quickly.

I live in a really old building in the Bronx (constructed in the 1920’s). My landlord hardly does any renovations. Although I can’t complain too much, because the rent is cheap, but the state of my floors was another story. My wooden floors were rotting! There were parts of the floor in my kitchen that were cracking– it was unbearable.
I saw an ad for American Trust Flooring and even though they were in Brooklyn I decided to get their services because there are hardly any flooring companies around where I live. They have some great deals and their staff was very professional. They fixed up my kitchen right away and the finishing was excellent! I would definitely recommend them if you have any flooring issues!

I love my apartment. I love Brooklyn. But my floor looked horrible, and my landlord is CHEAP. It took me months to convince him to replace it, and even more time doing research into who I thought would offer me a quality job at a great price.
Then there were phone calls. Lots of phone calls. More emails. Some shady people I met in the middle. After all that work, I found American Trust Flooring. They gave me a great quote, showed up on time, delivered a great product, and its lasted. A month later, the floor looks good.
If you’re looking for a flooring company that leaves chocolates on your pillow, this isn’t it. But if you want someone to do a great job, for a great price, let me save you the trouble.

Reliable, friendly service. They are very responsive via email and phone. We had a small issue that one of the areas of the floor did not dry right – it was incredibly humid the weekend our floors were refinished. Instead of nickel and diming me, the owner had someone come back the next day and fix it. No charge. The floors look beautiful and I’m happy with the service overall.
