Great service from receptionist to stylist. They always great you with a warm welcome, offer you something to drink and do a great job with color and cuts. I go to Shadi for my appts and he really does a great job. I’ve been to a number of hair salons in Brooklyn and Manhattan but this one never disappoints.

I booked an appointment earlier this week for a Keratin treatment and a hair cut
I have never colored my hair or did keratin treatment before, so i was really nervous.

I talked to Adam an Shadi and explained that i want to maintain my curls but wants to loose the frizz, they were very patient and explained everything throughly and clearly and answered all of my many questions.
Sam did my hair and she was nice and gentle.
After i showered I could not believe this is my hair ! It was shiny smooth and NO blow dry needed !

Had a little bit of a weird experience here. Lengthy review ahead.
I had been to the salon previously for a blow out by Veronica and it came out awesome! So when an experimental, at home dying sesh didn’t go according to plan, I decided to call this place to see if what I wanted to achieve could be done. The girl at the desk said «no problem!». When I called to make the appointment, I was in a little bit of a rush, I asked for the soonest available stylist and I was appointed to Adam.
Now just a preface, I used to dye my hair crazy wild colors when I was younger. I have dark dark brown hair. Although I’m no where near professional and wouldn’t challenge a professional on their knowledge or on any sort of chemistry, I do have a level of understanding on what hair can and cannot do. I’ve tried it all! Now since its been a while, I wanted to have 1 silver/​toned blonde streak in my hair. I had tested a hidden piece on my hair with bleach to see how my hair will lift and realized (again, rushing) I didn’t use the right level developer and since it was late at night, I decided to have a professional do it instead.
When I told Adam what I wanted, with pictures (think Stacy London) he looked confused. I kept insisting «1 silver/​blonde streak in my bangs» and still he didn’t seem like he understood what I wanted or seemed to not get the point. He was giving me weird looks. My last resort was showing him Storm from the X-​men (cheesy, I know) to get the gist of things, he then said «Why would you want that?»
… Okay. That took me by surprise a bit. This seems to be a cool hip salon, I said to myself, why is he acting so shocked about this?
He explained the processes of dying hair and how my dark hair wouldn’t lift to bleach blonde and all that jazz. I totally understand and asked if he could lift it as much as possible in 1 sitting and I could come back.
Then he proceeded to say «I won’t lift your hair lighter than a caramel color, anything lighter won’t look good, and it’ll be weird to have 1 streak, it’ll look lopsided, and why don’t you just do highlights instead?» That was a little off putting and quite frankly a little condescending. I didn’t come for caramel highlights. Just one simple streak. I didn’t appreciate him pushing his opinion on me and insisting that what I wanted wouldn’t suit me.
After going back and forth with him for 20 minutes and realized he was refusing at this point and now I’m getting upset, we ended up just dying back the test patch I did to my hair color and doing a blow out. I really appreciated him not charging me for re-​dying my small piece but I didn’t appreciate his judgmental mentality on a little fun. Its a fashion statement my friend, loosen up!

I had originally found this place through searching on Unilocal for a good hair salon. I was interested in a lob as well as balayage ombré. It was my first time going so short with my hair so I was weary. Seeing the great reviews on here as well as photos, I decided to take a trip up to Brooklyn and try it out. The staff are super friendly and I was greeted by the front desk rep and Shadi, he was the one who was cutting and styling my hair. The atmosphere was great and the customer service was awesome. They offer beverages if you’re thirsty too! Shadi really did an amazing job, the cut and the color was spot on to what I wanted. I really enjoyed my experience here and will definitely be coming back for touch ups!

I had a wonderful experience here. I got a hair color that I liked better than what I was getting done in the city at half the price. The stylists are warm and kind and I will definitely be back!

I’ve been going to the same hair dresser for 10 years. So when I moved to NY 3 years ago, and never found a salon that I trusted.
I’m quite picky, but A’La Mode made me feel at home. Everyone was polite and offered me anything I needed. The salon was constantly clean and the atmosphere is inviting. I scheduled an appointment with Veronica based on the reviews I was reading, and she didn’t disappoint. She asked me what I was looking for and made suggestions for my face frame, but the main thing she did was listen. She made me comfortable, took her time, and worked her magic. I cannot recommend her and this salon enough! I will be returning.

I came to this salon after searching for the perfect salon for a long time. I came to the right place! I came to this salon worried I would not get what I wanted but I left more than happy. I am so happy I found this salon. The people are super nice and friendly and I felt very comfortable. This is the salon to go to in New York! I really hope the business owners can expand and open more locations because they deserve to!

One of the better salons that I’ve been to in NYC. They have exceptional customer service, frequently checking in if you want coffee/​tea/​water. I made an appointment just a few days ahead and I was able to squeeze in earlier on a Saturday. They get really busy on the weekends and I understand why. It’s not a huge salon, but it has a really nice interior.
I wanted to lighten my hair and redo my balayage that I had done 5 months ago. Shadi was my stylist for this and he seemed quite knowledgeable. I showed him several examples of what I wanted. I specifically asked for no brassy colors and he ensured me that there would be none and started working his magic. I’ve done a balayage twice before and they were both the same technique. Shadi, however, did it a different way which involved teasing. The whole procedure of bleaching my hair took about one and a half hours. I looked like a huge hair ball by the end of that. Haha, like an experiment gone wrong! His assistant was really friendly and she helped me rinse my hair. This was by far the most painful experience I had. I already expected it because there were so many knots in my hair from all the teasing! She told me it would hurt ahead of time. After all the toning and drying my hair, I was quite satisfied. I really wanted the ends of my hair to be lighter but it wasn’t as light as requested. There was some brassiness, but not too much. But altogether I liked how my hair looked! Wish there were more streaks to the balayage though. He said 6 – 8 weeks later my hair will become more brassy. I tried to not wash my hair so often and it has been 2 weeks and 4 washes later, it has lost its ash and is now brassy… Most likely due to my natural color.
I will recommend friends and family to get their hair done here because of the superb service and skill and I definitely will be back!

I just came into Alamode Salon for my first time for a haircut. The Salon is inviting, super clean and the receptionist was warm and friendly. I asked her to give me «the best» and I got an excellent «bob» from Adam!
He took the time to explain what would work best for me and I am glad I listened!

I always take a while to post a review in order to see how my hair grows after a cut. So back in November, after reading so many wonderful reviews on Unilocal,I booked an appointment online and was able to get a Saturday morning appt. with only 2 days in advance of booking. I originally thought I needed highlights or color but after consulting with Shadi, he advised I only needed a cut and glaze. Thanks to Shadi, I’ve gotten one of the best cuts I’ve ever had!!! He has framed my face so nicely and it has grown out better than ever! He also recommended some Aveda products that were also fabulous. This haircut may have been on the pricy side but absolutely worth every penny!!! I get my hair trimmed every 6 – 8 weeks and will now be booking my 2^nd appointment for a trim and balayage. Since I didn’t remember to take a before and after pic the first time, I’ll definitely post one after this time. I highly recommend this amazing salon. It’s a lovely salon, aesthetically pleasing and the entire staff is friendly. Give them a try and you definitely won’t be disappointed!!!

This is a really nice and professional hair salon & everyone was pleasantly nice. After 2 really bad haircuts Adam was able to fix my hair and i am soooo very happy. I’m very picky, i have curly hair and i don’t know anything about cutting hair so i am relieved that i met Adam, because he really knows his stuff and he was so nice. Sam was a sweetheart, she washed my hair.

I had an appointment with Adam today, where he took my blonde balayage (that I got somewhere else) to a deeper rich tone. He explained every step he would have to do and how to maintain it. Absolutely loved the result and the service received ! Everyone is super nice and Attentive! Thank you so so much! They carry aveda products which is a huge plus in my books: D

Amazing salon! Great customer service! Veronica performed a miracle on my hair!!! Very personable! Made me feel beautiful!

Every time Adam touches my hair, I swear magic happens. I went from virgin dark brown-​black hair to platinum blonde. I wanted to go blonde for a while, so I did my research and made an appointment to get my hair done.
****NOTE: you CANNOT get these results overnight, and yes it is expensive (I’m a student) and yes bleach does damage your hair.
If you want to go from my original hair color to platinum blonde PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEE consult a professional hairstylist! Do not do it at home. Your hair is an accessory that allows you to express your style and personality; you do not want your hair to look like it has been deep fried, because it’s just not cute.
oh and bleach is not comfortable on the scalp. It burns. but beauty is pain and I have a high pain tolerance so I just accepted it. If you have a sensitive scalp you might not be able to go platinum, but you can still get ombré or balayage here (those are less of an upkeep).*****

Onwards with my experience!
My first session of bleaching was in May 2015.
After the first session of bleaching, I was in a transition phase for 2 months, and I appreciate the fact that Adam kept my hair from looking brassy (like those ungodly brassy, midtone orange diy bleach jobs at home), but I still wasn’t completely satisfied with the color cause I wanted to go platinum! I loved the look of my hair for those 2 months and I’m kindof glad Adam chose to talk some sense into me about the damage that could happen if I stupidly went to platinum in one go.
*Adam did not take my hair from my virgin dark hair to platinum in one go, because it would literally fry my hair and I’m so glad he looks out for the integrity of my hair.*
My second session was to get my roots touched up to the same transition shade in July 2015
Adam recommended to let my hair rest for a while longer and to allow more moisture to return to my hair.
*you have to let your hair rest and use a lot of masques and treatments, because if you hair is super dry, it won’t bleach anymore.*
And then finally in August 2015 I went PLATINUM!!!
Oh boy was it a process… It took the whole day, so if you’re expecting to go platinum from Asian virgin hair, be prepared to spend the whole day at the salon!
Currently I’m coming in for root touch ups. I’m supposed to come around 6 – 8 weeks after my last hair appointment, but I was naughty and I left it to 3 months. DONT DO THAT. One, it’s harder for Adam to do root touch ups and two, it comes out uneven. And to fix the unevenness is an inconvenience that could have been avoided if you stuck to your time frame. And when its more inconvenient it is also more expensive. And you would not be able to go platinum, you would have to settle for a darker ashy base. Adam still works wonders on my hair despite the challenge I constantly put him up to.
Waiting for my next appointment in January! Whooo! My birthday month is gonna be filled with fabulous hairrrr.

When Veronica goes to mix your color and says she’ll «be back with the magic», you need to take that woman literally. This is my third time with her and at this salon – and they killed it. I had a tall order – silver balayage with tints of lavender on my dark brown hair that’s been through hell and high water already. It took two visits to responsibly lift my hair to platinum (healthy hair is definitely better than no hair), and on this last visit V got in the perfect violet tones with the silver, plus trimmed up my bob perfectly to boot. I am beyond happy with this magic!
And we shan’t forget the rest of the salon, which is just as lovely. All of the staff and stylists and very friendly and helpful – I could easily stay here all day and feel right at home. Super clean, everyone’s on top of what they need to do, zero issues.

Adam was my stylist and he was wonderful. He spent time with me before the cut to discuss my expectations, possible outcomes and options. He was patient and non-​judgmental.
Adam was very knowledgeable and carefully colored my hair. From my observation, he was very professional and fluent in his art, and I can tell that be takes great pride in his work and I’m not just another job to him.
I will definitely return and Adam is now my new stylist!
This place is definitely a hidden gem!

By far one of the best salon experiences I have ever had:
When I walked into the salon yesterday, I was immediately greeted warmly by the beautiful receptionist Marion. (I had asked if the salon had any mints for guests as I just had eaten lunch and didn’t want to wheeze garlicky fumes on my poor stylist, and she came back with a stick of her own gum. Seriously, that was so sweet of her to do).
I had set my appointment for 2:00pm, and that’s exactly when my consultation started– not 2:05, or 2:10, or whatever, 2:00.
My stylist, then and from now on, was Veronica. She was warm, incredibly receptive, and just a joy. She listened to my desires and concerns, and did one hell of a job. Veronica didn’t cut my hair, she chiseled art. I still can’t get over how good it looks.
I’m not going anywhere else. Period.

I am a person who doesn’t mind changing hairdressers at all but after my last bad haircut I had to get a good fix. After reading phenomenal reviews on Unilocal I decide to come here for an Angular Bob.
I was greeted well upon entering the salon and was asked if I wanted a beverage. I was then taken to get my hair shampooed. The lady wasn’t particularly gentle on my hair and to me it’s important that the person who shampoos my hair is gentle and massages my head a little (as expected in any salon).
Next I met Shadi who listened to me patiently and gave me his inputs on what would look nice on my face. Overall I really liked the haircut but I think the bangs could have been better.
Since I went for an Angular Bob I wanted the haircut to be quite steep but I couldn’t feel the angle because my hair is wavy. Shadi was nice enough to blow out my hair for free and show me the exact style of the cut.
Overall it cost me $ 38 for wash and cut by using Unilocal’s check-​in discount code. Depending on how my cut looks after a wash, I may or may not go back.

I love this place! Been coming here for several years. I wouldn’t trust my head of hair to anyone else. Both Shadi and Hamza do such a fantastic job cutting, styling and with dyes/​highlights. I have never seen an average look coming out of this place.
I like also the eyebrow threading option with the lady they are working with in the back! I’ll wait for my hair to get washed and get my eyebrows done right before. It’s very convenient!
