History

Established in 1996.

On Call Pet Service was started while I was still working in corporate America. I was missing animals in my life as I always wanted to become a vetranarian, so I would walk dogs during my breaks or before and after work. This small start continued to grow into a bigger business as I surrounded myself with dogs, cats, birds, and wonderful people that have become friends and family.

I just love animals and enjoy working with them and their families. So, when some of my families lost their jobs due to the downturn in the economy, I agreed to let them continue for free until they were working again. Being able to help the people responsible for making my business successful gives me a great feeling of satisfaction. Money isn’t everything and it makes me happy to give back to those that have become so important in my life.

I highly recommend. Kelly is very responsive and considerate and I never once had an issue in over a year. The dogs get walked for a while but you pay for a half hour walk. Very economical and you can feel secure your pet is in good hands. I moved away so unfortunately couldn’t continue.

Kelly took care of my cat while I was traveling for several weeks. Never having worked with pet sitters before, I was unsure what to expect, but am very pleased with my experience with her.
She responded promptly to my emails while setting up the initial meeting. When she came by, I was very pleased that she took detailed notes and asked good questions that showed that she has a great deal of experience in this line of work.
While I was traveling, she took the time to send me an email every time she came by, so that I didn’t have to worry about how my cat was doing.
When I got home, the cat seemed in fine spirits, litter box was clean, and the cat had plenty of food and water left. Requests pertaining to handling of keys were followed to the letter. I would not hesitate to work with Kelly next time I go out of town!

Kelly was great watching our cats when we were in Europe for a week. She came recommended by a friend and we are glad we found her! Her rates are also probably the cheapest we saw in Boston. She was very prompt with texts and emails and getting our key back to us. She was also kind and gracious when we were explaining the food/​litter details and the cats were well fed and happy when we got back so I know they were well taken care of. We highly recommend Kelly and On Call Pet Services!

We recently used Kelly to care for our cats and guinea pig while we were on vacation. She went above and beyond — cleaning up after the animals way more than we has asked or expected. We also appreciate how affordable her services are. We will use her again.

Pros:
Close to where I live
Cheap — seriously the cheapest pet sitting I have personally found in the Boston area
My pet and (most) plants were alive when I returned from vacation
Cons:
Not professional — this mirrors some of the other experiences mentioned in comments, there is not a professional tone to email or phone conversations whatsoever, nor is there a timeliness of communication.
Never met in person — again, as some of the other comments have stated, Kelly did not meet my pet in person due to «food poisoning» and sent another employee to take her place. This resulted in me not getting to meet the actual person who cared for my pet nor to show them some of the nuances of my pet’s care (he was recently in the ICU for kidney failure).
Conclusion: Though the price is unbeatable, I will be going with another company in the future due to the unprofessionalism of Kelly and her employees.

Kayla has been walking Murphy for 3 years now and she has been amazing! She communicates with me daily through quick notes to keep me in the loop about his walk, bathroom stops, etc… which is greatly appreciated. She’s also very flexible and easy to get in touch with in case of a sudden change in my schedule. It’s very comforting to know that Murphy is in good hands while I’m at work. He loves Kayla and looks forward to her visits each day!

I cancelled our scheduled walk during a recent trip to Boston (due to traffic) but Kelly was totally understanding and emailed me right away. I hope to use her services the next time we are in town! I was so happy with my experience with Kelly and her team. Maggie was my dog walker, and she did an awesome job. She left a note every day detailing their walk. I even ran into her one day as I was walking my dog, and my dog was very excited to see her, which is a good sign!
I am a student with a constantly changing schedule, and Kelly was great about meeting my last minute changes.

Kelly’s team is amazing. She is so accommodating and graciously works in my last minute changes and requests. I feel so safe leaving B in her team’s care, and I love the sweet progress reports that Jack leaves for me every day. It really shows how much he and my dog have built a relationship. Kelly and her team did such a fantastic job taking care of my 12 year old Tibetan terrier Brinkley. He had surgery and needed a little extra care while recovering. Both Kelly and Jon came and introduced themselves to me and I immediately felt comfortable having Brinkley in their care. Jon helped Brinkley heal up and get back to his normal goofy self. About three days a week Brinkley had the joy of wandering around with Jon and playing in the park. I came home after work to find a happy albeit tuckered out pup. Jon’s name even became known as the «J» word inducing a burst of energy if say out loud.
Kelly runs a fantastic business. She is eager to help take care of your pet and very trustworthy. Scheduling was a breeze, just a weekly email and you’re set. Jon gave Brinkley so much love and attention and even left me a note to let me know how Brinkley did.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this company. It made a huge difference for me and my pup.

I came upon Kelly and On Call Pet Service through our neighbor and we haven’t looked back since. It couldn’t get better than this for us as first time pet owners.
We started with one walk a day and quickly changed that to two a day and Kelly was more than accommodating.
Our dog, Steffie, absolutely adores her walker, Kayla, who leaves us humorous, detailed notes about their walks together. She also walks Steffie in a pack usually, which has totally socialized her as well as built up her confidence.
Kelly makes it a breeze to schedule walks on a weekly basis and is great with changes and/​or additional walks to help us out.
On Call Pet Service goes the extra mile.

We’re new to On Call Pet Services but so far, it’s proven to be absolutely amazing. The owner Kelly is super organized and quick to respond. Her staff is friendly and always leaves the nicest notes. They are totally professional and have shown a real enthusiasm and passion for what they do which I completely appreciate and cannot be more grateful for. Definitely recommend this.

We’ve been using On Call Pet for the last 3 months since we got our now 5 month old puppy. Kelly, the owner, is so great — totally organized and communicative. Our dog walker, Kayla, is absolutely incredible. Totally reliable, so sweet, and I can tell she absolutely loves animals. We love her so much we recommended her to our neighbor, too!

I used Kelly twice for cat sitting while I was on vacation. She was nice and I am sure she took care of our cat well. She seemed to like pets. I had some problems with her though, that made me stop using her service.
— She cancelled picking up or bringing our key four times. The reasons were related to health issues (food poisoning twice), traffic, and once some attack on her car. She eventually had someone else bring the key.
— On second vacation (2 weeks) she forgot to bring up the mail from mailbox. I was not happy with this, especially since we had gone through the tasks together and in addition I wrote instructions on paper. Our mailman was not happy with too full mailbox. I would understand if she forgot once but for two weeks…
— Something else had also happened on the second visit as Kelly claimed that our cat had opened the freezer and taken pizza from there. I cannot understand how our cat would or could open the freezer (he doesn’t open even doors). Also we did not have any pizza in the freezer or fridge or trash or anywhere. Something had happened with the freezer though, since all the food seemed to be melted and refrozen again.

I’ve been using Kelly’s service since my now two year old pup was three months old. Kelly is incredibly responsible, reliable and sincerely loves my dog.
Kelly is very professional & responsive to my schedule. She has a genuine love for dogs. My Jack Russel literally runs up and down the hallway in my condo when he sees Kelly – that’s how excited he gets when she comes over to walk him.
There have been a few times when I’ve had to call Kelly very last minute to walk my dog & she has always been available.
The Times when she’s boarded him, he is so happy. There have been quite a number of times when I’ve asked Kelly to watch my dog overnight and she has always made herself available. I am so grateful to Kelly.

Here’s another rave for Kelly and her staff. I’m sure we are nightmare clients as far as scheduling goes. My wife and I have weird work schedules and so our needs for walks are totally irregular but Kelly and her team are always there for us. On Call Pet Service is fantastic. Kelly is great about last minute walks and cancellations and very flexible in general. Unlike other walking services, I never need to worry that Gus will be forgotten about or not taken out — Kelly and her team (Gus gets walked by Susan) are super reliable. Kelly even boards Gus when I go out of town.
When I was doing inital research on dog walkers after adopting Gus, I had made a few calls and sent some emails. Two of the walkers I reached out to weren’t accepting new clients but BOTH recommended Kelly. If that’s not a good sign, I’m not sure what is!

On call pet service continues to be man (and dog’s) best friend!
While I was out of town, my dog Peppy had two seizures. Jo, my sitter/​walker, took her straight to Angell (it was 2AM) and called the owner Kelly. The two of them stayed with her and called me frequently with updates. Jo checked in via text and calls the entire time Peppy was hospitalized and is so caring.
Peppy loves her walkies with Jo and is always a happy, tired dog after.
I love on call pet service and highly recommend them!
