Camp Tevya is all about tradition, values, friendship and fun.
Founded in 1940 by Eli and Bessie Cohen, Camp Tevya is a co-ed camp located on 600 acres of land along Lake Potanipo in Brookline, New Hampshire. Our family atmosphere, rich camping tradition and Judaic spirit create a special place where children develop strong character and form life-long friendships.
We encourage our campers to reach their ultimate potential through activities, acquiring new skills, learning to be part of a community, and challenging themselves with new experiences. Campers are exposed to a wide variety of land and water sports, and creative and performing arts to learn new skills and perfect ones they already have. The camp experience is guided by the Cohen Camps’ dedication to the spiritual and ethical values of Judaism that enrich the Camp Tevya experience.
History
Established in 1940.
Over 75 years ago, Eli and Bessie Cohen began a mission committed to strengthening the Jewish people through education and building Jewish community. They realized the power of the immersive experience of summer camp and its ability to engage, teach and develop children in an informal setting and founded Camp Pembroke in 1935, followed by two co-educational camps, Tevya and Tel Noar, to reach even further into the community.
For nearly 40 years, Eli and Bessie managed the camps. Today their legacy continued with Eli’s son Arnold, wife Annebelle, and now grandson Jonathan running the camps. The mission is still to provide children with an exciting and traditional residential camp experience which instills Jewish identity and community.
Generations of children from a wide range of backgrounds have experienced this legacy at a Cohen Camp. They have created for themselves identification with community, Israel, and a lifetime of friendships and memories.
