Description

Specialties

Set in a relaxed and elegant ambiance, Signatures Gallery offers original works of art and Limited Edition giclées by highly collectible nationally and internationally known artists. Signatures Gallery opened its doors in time for the May 2006 Second Saturday Art Walk in Brookings, Oregon. Their goal was to have a dedicated gallery displaying works by artists that are not normally seen in small coastal towns, and they have succeeded remarkably well. Signatures exhibits one of the best catalogs of artists on the West Coast. Each of the internationally recognized artists are at the top of their respective fields. Their artwork encompasses figurative, floral, wildlife, portraits and contemporary works in oil, pastel, watercolor and mixed media. In addition, they feature works by some of the best artists and photographers in this region. Many of these pieces feature local seascapes and landscapes as well as indigenous flora and fauna.

History

Established in 2006.

Our goal was to have a dedicated art gallery featuring internationally known artists that are not normally found in small coastal towns. We succeeded beyond our wildest expectations. We have works by Drew Stuzan, best known for his Star Wars and Indiana Jones movie posters. We are the only gallery, at this time, that carries both his commercial and personal work. We also carry work by Maggie Price, the founding editor of the Pastel Journal Magazine; Ken Auster who paints the surfer Greg Noll; Jan Kunz, the grande dame of the watercolor world; Royal Canadian Artist Duncan Regehr;and master pastel artist Albert Handell.

Associated with the gallery is JTo Prints, a full service studio serving the needs of artists and photographers with giclées printed to museum quality standards using the finest archival pigmented inks on the best archival substrates available today. Joe specializes in large format printing, including murals for both indoor and outdoor settings.

Business Owner

The three questions most often asked of me seem to be:

How long have you been painting?

When did you sell your first piece?

How long does it take you to paint a picture?

The first two questions are easy to answer. In my memory, I’ve always drawn. My first commissioned portrait was done while I was in Junior High School.

The third question has no one answer. The painting starts with an idea, then come with sketches, value studies, color studies, changes, more changes, then… I start to paint. My work as an Animal Keeper at the Los Angeles Zoo, the years spent training and showing horses and dogs, and a bevy of various pets has expanded my proficiency of observation. This enables me to render compelling portrayals of both domestic and exotic animals. Living in this picturesque area has inspired me to turn my gaze more towards landscapes and seascapes.

How long does it take to paint a picture? As long as it takes. .. plus the sum of my life’s experiences.
