Don & Roy’s Motorsports

Our experience with a $ 11K purchase of a watercraft was horrible in the way that it was handled four days after the completed purchase.
After signing the papers and putting down 45% on a Saturday, we paid the the remaining balance on the following Wednesday, receiving documentation showing that the the watercraft was paid in full, and took the product home. On Friday, my wife gets a call while I was out of town from salesman who sold it to us, asking for an additional $ 500 to be paid ASAP that they said was due to a mistake on, their part without providing any details. I wasn’t too happy about the situation, as they signed the Purchase Agreement PAID IN FULL.
The discrepancy was due to how the Yamaha promotion was handled and recorded… I could either take the $ 500 rebate from Yamaha or get a 5 year extended warranty on the watercraft. I indicated to the sales person that I wanted the extended warranty before signing approval on the deal. During the paperwork process, I was told by the finance manager that the $ 1500 discount reflected on the purchase agreement was what Don & Roy’s Motorsports discounted the watercraft from the MSRP.
I travelled back to Don & Roy’s Motorsports to discuss their mistake when I got back to town, the day after my wife got the call from the salesman. I didn’t have $ 500 lying around at home, especially after being out of town. After waiting for 15 minutes, we finally got a chance to sit down with the finance manager and the owner’s son who was upset and antagonist about the whole situation, as he laid out a guilt trip about honesty and that I should pay the $ 500.
After everything was calmed down a bit, the owner’s son showed me the invoice reflecting what they purchased the watercraft from the manufacturer. The finance manager then walked me through the purchase agreement, how it related to the invoice, and the mistake that they made. I finally understood, it made sense, and I paid the $ 500. Instead of the salesman calling my wife to come in and pay an additional $ 500 down on the watercraft we just purchased, the owner’s son should have made the call personally, asking if my wife and I could come to the dealership to discuss a mistake that was made during the transaction with him.
Mistakes happen, and need to be communicated objectively so everybody is on the same page so an amicable solution can be reached.
This is an example of broken controls existing with a business. The purchase agreement should have been reviewed by another person before being presented to me for signature, and the agreement being signed by Don & Roy’s Motorsports as being paid in full.
My advice in doing business with Don & Roy’s Motorsports is to get all commitments & agreements in writing.

My husband dropped his motorcycle off here for a simple fluid change and the bike also needed the clutch serviced. It took THREE WEEKS. The first week the bike wasn’t even touched. They did not call us once to let us know what was going on or when it would be done, but multiple calls were made to them, each time a different date being given of when it’d be done. When we picked it up, after a ride we noticed that it was leaking oil. That took another 4 days to fix, and the problem wasn’t even fixed — after the next ride it was STILL leaking! So we had to take it back AGAIN! All in all, over five weeks for our bike to be back to normal, missing all of August and part of September, aka prime riding time. Avoid this place at all costs.

I made a minor purchase at their booth at the Chicago International Motorcycle show on 2÷12÷2011.
The resulting interaction changed my thoughts on this company from «Cool. I found a great motorcycle destination where I can shop for accessories and support a small business.» to «If they treat me like this on something this minor, there is no way I’d give them more business nor recommend them to anyone.»
Their booth was the last stop I made at the show. I made my purchase there and was handed my receipt, but not my credit card.
I didn’t realize this until I was at home an hour away. Rather than immediately cancel the card I phoned their business listed on the receipt and asked if they had my card and if they’d mail it to me.
I figured they’re from a rural area where folks are more honest and ready to lend a hand. Especially to a customer.
The guy I talked to at their shop contacted the guy at their show booth and called me back to say he had it in hand. He took my mailing address and said it would go in the mail first of the week.
I expected, based on what was promised, I’d get it within the week. Their business is not more than a 2 hours from my home.
I waited a week. Nothing. No mail. No phone call saying they changed their mind.
I phoned them ²⁄₁₈ and was told they have the card, but I have to come pick it up 2 hours away. They finally agreed to mail it to me if I faxed them proof of identity. I did and phoned back to verify they received the fax. They had it in hand and promised to mail my card and faxed documents.
Another week came and went. I pretty much had given up hope, but gave them the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to believe they would do right.
Nope. Another week came and went. No mail from them. At the time of this writing it’s been 3 weeks since the show.
I know it’s my fault for leaving my card at the show. I know I could have driven the 2 hours to pick it up at the show. I know I could have driven the 4 hours to pick it up at their shop. I know it sounds like a small thing.
It’s not about the card or these things. It’s about being lied to.
If they’d have said «no» the first time I asked if they would mail it, I’d have understood and went on my way. Instead they said they would mail it. Not once, but twice they said this and did not keep their word.
I could have stood being told it was my fault and problem for leaving the card at the show and they’d not mail it.
It’s a shame because I spend time in WI throughout the summer and would have happily went out of my way to visit their shop. Not now.
