Popcorn Pawz

I’ve taken my dog (Blue) here twice for grooming (the second and third haircut he’s ever received in his lifetime, he’s 10 months old). I moved to Riverdale recently and I was so relieved to find out that there was a good grooming/​pet store option down the street. Given that Blue has had so few grooming experiences, I was very nervous because I didn’t want him to have a negative early experience with bathing and nail trimming in particular. It turns out that I didn’t have anything to worry about because the staff continues to be fantastic every time I bring him in. They always manage to work around my schedule, Blue always looks fantastic and most importantly he always leaves happy. I have every intention of continuing to use Popcorn Pawz in Riverdale as my regular groomer.

Amazing! Took my dog to the store on Riverdale Ave. today and the groomer did an amazing job. My dog is not the easiest when it comes to his face but the groomer was able to trim his face beautifully and included the hair in his ears. The groomer listened to my needs. My dog was finished within 2 hours and the cost was not more than the big store groomers.
I shop here also for my dog’s food. They have a fantastic selection of top quality foods. I highly recommend this store, for grooming and your pets essentials.

Had a problem posting here so this will be brief. Brought my dog here to be groomed by I believe Jennifer. I was assured she was experienced with aggressive dogs. I was ready to leave when I saw they had booked another dog at the same time. She assured me she had an assistant. When I picked Max up the assistant handed the leash to me and put my tip in a jar without looking at it. I tip high and like to be thanked. Max had a cut in the corner of his eye and his eyeball was red which I discovered when I got home. I understand that things happen because I have a difficult dog. I should have been told about the injury and his ears had not been done as requested. Max will go back to Paw Prints of Harlem where Dianne grooms aggressive dogs one at a time before the store opens.

I went in the other day for their grooming services for my one year old cockapoo. I usually go their for treats or apparel as they usually have good deals and offers. I also used to take my 4 year old labrador there for grooming and worked out very well, as they returned him to me smelling and looking fresh.
When I went to pick up my cockapoo, I was really happy the way they groomed her. They did everything they were suppose to do, and took only 3 hours given the fact she is difficult to groom. The problem I had was that when she was so happy to see me she urinated out of excitement (it’s her thing) and although I felt bad, their reaction made it seem as if it never happens. They were unpleased with the fact she urinated and had no problem showing it. Meanwhile, at many other places where I have taken her, when such a situation happens, it’s all smiles as if it isn’t a big deal. Which it shouldn’t be, if you run a pet business, things like this happen, and after the accident happened the only feeling I had after was unwelcome.
Since it’s a habit of my dog to urinate when she’s excited and does so whenever grooming is over, I no longer plan to take her to popcorn pawz again because of their reaction. I want to bring my dog to a place where she is recognized as a dog (it is likely for them to do business anywhere especially under certain circumstances).
Any pet owner can agree that their dog is their baby. Be happy enough that I brought my cute teddy bear to your business. Not grumpy that she peed in your lobby because she was excited after grooming (which is traumatizing for them).

My first time getting my dog groomed here and I had a great experience.. I was rather impressed with how quickly she was done and how well the groomer listened to my request. I read the previous reviews and didn’t experience any of the negativity described. I’m praying that this will be my dog’s new grooming home…

Have taken my dog in 3 times total so far, the first cut was mediocre — which i was ok with considering it takes time to adjust and figure out what an owner wants. The next time, barely any hair was removed, even though I explicitly asked for half the length to come off.
Finally, just went there two weeks, and never will return again. My dog came out shaved almost to the skin with bold patches on the chest and legs.
All 3 times were different groomers… but with such unpredictable results, I could never trust them with my pup again.

I took my now 16 year old Mini Schnauzer there for the fist time last year or a bit before. My dog is grumpy and she is entitled to be at her age. The ladies at Popcorn Pawz always do an amazing job with her and she always looks great. Impeccable job and Lulu never comes back grumpy so they must be doing something right! Would strongly reccomend them!

Went in yesterday to get my nails trimmed. Called beforehand to see if the groomer was in, person on the phone was very friendly. Went into the shop, conveniently located on Riverdale Avenue. It is a little crammed in there, but not impossible to get around. I dropped off my dog and when I picked him up, I met the groomer who gave me advice on how to care for his nails. Very helpful people, clean environment, up to date with technology, etc! Great place!

I have only lived in Riverdale for 7 months, but this store adds to the small town charm. The employees are extremely nice and helpful and make it a point to remember who their customers and owners are :-) I am also very pleased with the grooming services and the groomer took time out to meet me and discuss in detail with me how she met Marley’s (my 7 month old Peekapoo) grooming needs and to tell me how well he behaved during the whole process. The food I feed him (Blue Buffalo) is also cheaper at this store than at Petsmart or Petco.

Terrible customer service. Do not go there. I called to speak with the owner, because i had a few questions. Without explanation the grumpy man on the phone hung up on me, and continued to do so each time I called back. When I called back from a different number he answered, making me realize that he was in fact hanging up all of my calls. I wouldn’t shop here if my life depended on it. I posted this on their facebook page, but I wanted to Unilocal it because i know they cant take this one down. Buyers beware. Horrible staff.

Okay, so, yeah they’re expensive. And yeah, it’s a small store with not much room to navigate. And yes the selection is irregular.
TOTES. WORTH. IT.
Seriously. They will order what you want and call you when it’s in, or deliver for a minimal extra fee. They remember you every time. They will love all over your animal in the best possible way when you bring him or her in and make you feel like you’re the only customer they love. They will tell you when a product will come in if you don’t want to order ahead of time. They will suggest things with no pressure. They accept returns of unopened or unused items so gracefully.
And if you become a member, there’s no cyclic thing going on — once you spend a certain amount, you get a percentage off for the REST OF YOUR SHOPPING LIFE THERE.
I do miss Animal Fare from Brooklyn reserving Amelia’s food for us, but this is the next best thing.

My first trip here was pleasant… the staff was friendly but the selection of small breed toys is limited. Food choices are good.
My subsequent visits I was treated rudely by the managerial staff, to the point I felt so uncomfortable I had to leave without finishing my purchase. How can the managers be so rude to customers? Did they forget that the success of their store depends on good customer service?
I have never been back, nor will I ever be.
I used to recommend this place, but now I avoid it like the plague.

Awesome! This is the second time I have taken my cat Marbles for grooming and they did an excellent job. The little guy looks great! The first time they did a lion cut, this time around I asked for a short cut around the face and it came out great. Staff is great too!

I love this place! My dog is well dressed & fed because of it! I used to have to go all the way to the PETCO on 86^th Street to get his holistic food (Merrick) but now I am able to go here! It’s only 10 minutes away from my home in the Bronx!
Customer Service is A-​mazing also!
I also get my dog groomed here! He is no easy pickle believe me! I heard him howling because he was getting washed and the groomer Mario howled along with him which put my dog at ease after that he calmed down and enjoyed his spa day :)
I could not recommend this place more!

Nice place if you want to pick up products for small dogs but FORGET IT IF YOU HAVE A DOG OVER 30 POUNDS or a cat. They just don’t care. I took my dog in to buy a safe, breathable, drinkable muzzle-​they carried every size but his. I was told they were sold out but coming in. I called back because I also needed a travel bowl, which they don’t carry. I was told the owner would see if she could order it and she would call me. After about 4 – 5 days, I called back because I still hadn’t heard anything. No, they did not have the muzzle, no, they did not have the bowl but they took my name and number again and said they’d get back to me. More time passed, still no call. I called again. Once again, they seemed to have NO IDEA who I was or that I’d called before. Again, I left my information. The last time I called, I spoke with a young woman, who I thought was the owner, or at least a manager. She said the muzzle would be in by the weekend, they would try to find me a travel bowl, and I also asked if she could request that their distributor also deliver Feline Pine shavings cat litter, in addition to the pellets which they already carry, so I would not have to go to another pet shop for that and I could get all if my pet supplies in one place. When the weekend came, I trekked my dog over there, about a 20 minute walk, only to find that, no, they had no information on the travel bowl, and the only size L muzzle they had was a groomer’s muzzle, they weren’t sure if it would suit my purpose, but if it didn’t, and the dog killed my cat, they’d refund my money. SERIOUSLY?! Further, when I asked if she’d at least gotten the litter, she (the same person, who is neither owner nor manager and, frankly, an apathetic incompetent) told me, more than once!, that I never asked her to get the different cat litter for me. Smoke another bong hit, before work next time! I will NEVER shop there again. Lisa, Riverdale/​Bronx NY

This place is amazing! I got so much great information from Johanna about great products for my new puppy, as well as a few treats for him to try! I have been back FOUR times already and I’ve only had my pup for two weeks! Can’t wait to go back for more great things, but i’ll let my wallet recover first!
