2nd year team and I am a fan. I needed that NY team to replace the old Metrostars.(i stopped following the red bulls once they changed name and moved to Harrison) I now have my top tier US team to follow, which was a tough choice being that i despise the Yankees(I am a Mets fan) and love Manchester City. I figured that they are still NY and the only true NY team and bringing one back to the city deserved my fandom. As for Yankee Stadium, the fans are alive and that is great. However, the stadium is not a great soccer pitch. The field seems much smaller than most real pro soccer fields and I cannot see this being the end result. they must get their own soccer only stadium, and it better be in NY. the game experience is still good due to the lively crowd.

So I ended up in Yankee Stadium less than 7 days ago, not for the Yankees but for soccer or Futbol as the world calls it. NYCFC are the new kids on the block in the MLS soccer league. Ny finally has a team, Red Dogs or Red Bulls can keep doing what they do over there, but now the new professional soccer team is here. Saw the game against the Houston Dynamo, and the star for NYCFC was David Villa. He played really great, I believe had about 7 shots on goal himself and did get the 1 goal of the match for New York. The player is well known over the years for Spain National Team play and of course the World Cup this past summer, his name was everywhere. I did see the appeal of MLS soccer, I am mostly a basketball and football fan and have only some soccer experience. It was not a long trip at all to get to the Bronx to Yankee Stadium, there was a meet and greet session I got to attend after the match as well. Midfielder Sebastian Velasquez, Brovsky, Khiry Shelton and Ballochy were some of the first players out that were signing. I am sure David Villa did eventually come out but it was getting late and I ended up leaving. There were drums in the crowd to keep everyone pumped up and it was just fun enjoying the food and overpriced beer, of course. Overall great experience and great view of the field. Wish them more success in the first year of NYCFC Soccer.

Gooooaaaaallllllll. Who would’ve thought that my first time at the newish Yankee Stadium would be for a soccer game? I’ve heard great things about the stadium, so I was nervous about it living up to the hype. Well fantastic news; I wasn’t disappointed! NYCFC is an American professional soccer league that participates in the MLS. March 15, 2015 marked their first official MLS game at Yankee Stadium. I was there for their 4÷19÷15 game against the Portland Timbers. The stadium itself is beautiful and clean. It’s amazing how they can transform the baseball field into a soccer field almost flawlessly. Staff is attentive, friendly, and helpful. Drinks and food are overpriced($ 9.75 for a domestic beer, $ 10.75 Stella Artois), but I wasn’t surprised. There are also several bars and restaurants in the area to go to beforehand/after if you want to avoid the additional fees. I didn’t buy anything at the stadium, so the prices didn’t affect my review. All seats used within the stadium are great. Third Rail fans(the extra super enthusiastic fans) were great at keeping the cheering alive and momentum up, but they were not excessive or too rowdy. I wouldn’t mind getting tickets to sit there one time [hint ;)]. I was sitting with mostly season ticket holders, which was fun too. The Jumbotron offered clear, crisp, and close-up views of the players and fans. We were so close to making it on the big screen! …yet so far. Excellent atmosphere. Hope to be back again soon! Update: Went again on 6÷13÷15 for the win against Montréal! I had amazing seats, second row.
