Great café for a good breakfast. Staff is friendly and the place is clean. Good came out fast and was hot. It’s off the beaten path and is not as busy as the Riverdale diner. It’s a great place for a quiet meal.

This restaurant has been closed down by NYC health dept end of June 2015. Had 57 violations. Did not put in official sign just wTer damage which is not true. Serious disgusting filthy place. I’ve been eating there for years and can’t understand why this keeps happening. Has been closed down before. The food was pretty good as is only diner type place on our whole area. Get it together to reopen if it is at all.

A good solid NYC Diner. Good food, excellent service. I had the tricolor salad for dinner and it was terrific. If they had a whole wheat pita it would have been even better. I go for breakfast a lot and it is super.

The first thing you notice about the place is the proprietor. He’s friendly. You like him. And you respect how hard he works to maintain his establishment. This is not a hands off kinda gentleman. He’s out there meeting people in the neighborhood, and doing the dirty work right along his workers. He cares. I love that. Is the food Manhattan? No. But some of the food in Manhattan is not Manhattan. And many of those places comes with such a heaping side order of attitude, it so you can’t taste the food. Not here. Yeah. Some of the staff have a bad day sometimes, but who doesn’t. Point being«people» work here, and this is a place for people to eat. Not«persons». What’s good? Breakfast. Think diner. It just not open 24 hours. Keep that locked in your noggin, and you’ll enjoy. The burger is also juicy masterpiece.

Breakfast is not a great choose. Mistakes are made on your order.

I enjoy the food, I’ve had take out and sat down for lunch since moving to the neighborhood. Food is tasty, nice selection of Italian and Mediterranean entrees, prices are reasonable. Service wa lacking on my last visit, very slow every step of the way: taking our order, getting our food and getting our check. They seemed to be short staffed, one cook and one waitress, they needed at least one more staff to make it viable for busy lunch hour.

Kappock has, hands down, the best wraps and hamburgers I’ve had in Riverdale. There aren’t really that many places up here that fit the bill when it comes to those two. The staff is friendly and clean, always making sure to accommodate and make you feel at home. Another rarity around these parts: hospitality. Everyone makes you feel like you’re walking into a friend’s dinning room. The environment is just that friendly and appealing. Only problem with this place is that not enough people know about it. But once you do, you know for sure that you’ll be coming back.

I used to go here almost every weekend. No way would I return to this place. The service and the food has deteriorated dramatically. I was given raw eggs instead of sunny side up. I asked the waitress for another set of eggs that were cooked correctly. She instead argued with me saying those were the eggs I had asked for. I told her that all I ever eat is sunny side up so I know what these eggs look like and what I had in front of me were raw. The rest of the meal was as poorly executed as the eggs and the service. There are other diners I will consider — it’s just too bad since this one is walking distance.

I live in South Riverdale — and think that this is the best, most reasonable breakfast alternative in the area. The staff is friendly. The breakfast food and coffee is fresh. I order scramble eggs and turkey bacon. It comes with orange juice; toast; and coffee. They offer to refill the coffee as well. Its very reasonable priced with fast service. I think its a perfect quick breakfast option.

Tiny little place… little grungy… nice staff however… must say that… Friend lives nearby and on my visit she took us here… I got the cheesesteak… not exactly what I thought I was going to get… moderate on the yummy scale. I’d say look to this place for more of a coffee and dessert type of thing.

We were out in this area visiting a friend, and this was the only thing near and open(besides Rays Pizza which we were not in the mood for) The service was good, and the food was a-ok. Nothing spectacular, but not bad at the same time. I had the bacon cheeseburger, and the others had the Philly cheese steak, and they all seemed to enjoy.

I’ve only been to the Kappock Café for lunch, mostly based on convenience as it is two blocks away from my grandmother’s place. But otherwise, there would be no reason to come here. The service is warm, but the food, while not entirely tragic, walks the line of being flavorless. I appreciate the fact that the spinach wrap is chock-full of sauteed spinach, but the spinach needed flavor enhancement in a big way. A few slivers of fresh cooked garlic saved the sandwich from being inedible, but it was not enough to make it tasty. The salad sampler is mostly pasta, no greens. And the lentil soup has no flavor though it is hearty. The one saving grace was the yogurt fruit smoothie my grandma got the last time we went, though it was a bit sweet for my palette. Kappock Café has potential and is a cute little diner/café, but ultimately disappoints in most respects.

Perfectly fine if you’re looking for dessert and coffee. One star for that. The coffee is actually good and it’s sometimes not so easy to find a good cup of coffee. The dessert they purchase from elsewhere and depending on how busy it is, it can stay fresh long enough for you to enjoy. If not so busy, that dessert gets that stale refrigerated taste, so take a peek at the glass case and see if there’ s less than half the cake/pie/tart sitting in there, give or take a slice. If it’s at that point, leave it alone. I was surprised not to be provided a Wine Menu along with the Dinner Menu, considering this venue touts itself as a wine bar. House salad was tasteless and the gnocci was microwaved. Carpaccio arrived without shaved parmesan as described on the menu. I’ve been a waitress and recall odd moments when items like three large slices of cheese were missing from an appetizer and have turned back to the kitchen before serving the incomplete dish. It wasn’t too busy for the waitress to have noticed the not there cheese. I thought perhaps the waitress might have been new and unfamiliar with the menu, but other patrons came in and greeted her by name with warmness. For the prices, you would expect the food to be made fresh. If you like microwaved food this place is for you. Now you know where to find such particular fare, aside from your local supermarket’s frozen section.
