History

Established in 1992.

The Island Current Fleet are the perfect boats for all fishing excursions. When you charter a boat from the Island Current Fleet, the boat is yours for the day. Most of the fishing charters leave around 7:00 AM and return approximately 4:30 PM. The price of the fishing charter includes all custom tackle, rods, reels, and bait. There is an expert crew member aboard to assist all passengers throughout the entire trip. Charters can be booked daily for either day or night fishing. The Island Current Fleet welcomes all groups whether you are experts, beginners, or children.

Captain Chris is the owner of the Island Current Fleet and has been working the waters of the Long Island Sound for the past 24 years. Captain Chris grew up on the western part of the Long Island Sound and fishing has naturally became a way of life. As Captain of the Island Current Fleet, Captain Chris makes every effort possible to catch his customers fish after fish, and a fish of a lifetime. Aboard the Island Current Fleet, we use the finest custom tackle available at no extra charge. Captain Chris enjoys fishing right alongside his customers and provides them with years of successful secrets on how to «hook-​up» with possible pool winning fish. Captain Chris makes sure that his crew provides each passenger with family like service from the moment they board the boat to the time they depart. All crew members are true professionals and provide superior service throughout each fishing trip.

They are getting 3 stars because of their amazing crew! If not for them it would be one star! Small boat with toilets that don’t flush! The stench was awful if you were the unfortunate person that got the last seat and it was by the toilets and that was me, get ready to be sick! No galley, old boat! The people on board that were serious fisherman didn’t seem to care. Klondike Fishing has quality clean ships with a great galley. I’ll stick with them.
Folks on my cruise caught plenty of porgy, sea bass and sea robins, which I hear are great to eat!

I’ve heard that fishing is very relaxing and I didn’t know anything about it but it was great to see others offer help. There’s nothing like a NYC summer sunset and the views you’ll see with Island Current Fleet will have you gazing. Think outside the box and do something you’re usually not going to do.
Again, I’ve never been fishing before but the crew was so helpful. It was refreshing to see so much especially when it came to this art. I wasn’t able to exactly get a grip on what i had to do but the help was there. Catching a fish was the exciting part.
In case I am interested again in fishing, I will for sure return to Island Current Fleet. Their customer service sold me completely. And if you’re with the right people, this experience can be extremely fun and you’ll want to repeat it again.

This was a very cool experience and these guys are pretty great. My dad’s side of the family who are from da Boogie Down Bronx planned our Family Reunion and decided to do something a little different than the ususual drunk Uncle Earle bar-​b-​queing overcooked wieners and burgers disaster. They rented a 76′ (!!) fishing boat from Island Current and took everyone on an epic fishing adventure. There were about 60 people on our boat and it was plenty of room.
It was really amazing. Beautiful weather. The boat sails out of City Island which if you haven’t been is a must-​a small facsimile of a New-​England fishing town on an Island that you woold never guess is actually part of the Bronx. Our Captain and First Mate were awesome and capable and no Gilligan’s Island type disasters were ever a worry. We actually caught quite a lot of fish including flounder, porgy, bluefish and some bass. My little cousins got very into helping to gut them which was gross but it was cool to watch them enjoy the experience. You can bring booze on the boat so Earle was still able to get drunk, it was just a whole lot more fun than usual. Highly recommended!

I had a great time with these guys. We went for Fluke, caught mostly sea robins but had a few keepers too, I got one really nice doormat that cooked up nicely.

This was only my second time fishing in my life and my first time fishing on a boat. Its a bit of an understatement that I really didnt know what I was doing but they were great a provided everything me and my dad needed. The crew was great with helping me get bait on my hook and how to cast the fishing line and everything. I was pretty out of my element but the crew really made the experience very comfortable and memorable for me. The boat ride in itself was nice and the time to actually fish was a very good amount, not too long that it got boring and more than enough time for most people to catch something which most people on the boat did. Even if you dont catch something the experience is very nice with the scenery and boat ride. Definitely a great first experience boat fishing and if I ever want to go again I definitely plan to come back to this place.

This place is so beautiful plus it’s great to fish at when the sunset is going down. The ocean is very open and free. On a nice day it’s great to just go out fishing and relaxing the enjoying the waves. The boat was very sturdy and great. They take everyone’s safety on the boat a big deal which is good. The boat doesn’t go too fast but at a slow and medium speed where you can relax and enjoy. Everyone there is nice and they make sure you have a great experience fishing. I will make sure I go back again by the end of the year. This just might be me new spot to catch the awesome sunset as well.

I did a sunset fishing experience with Island Current Fleet recently. I am not the type of girl who likes to fish usually, so I didn’t really know what I was getting into. My thoughts were simply this: experience a beautiful sunset over the water in the most relaxing way possible. I used to fish quite a bit with my dad as a kid and it seemed like a lovely way to wind down and capture a picturesque part of my childhood again.
I was lucky to have a crew that not only knew what they were doing, but were incredibly helpful and accommodating to people who are «new» to fishing. It had been years and everyone on board was more than willing to patiently show me the ropes. Sure, I managed to let every fish that took a nibble get away, but it was such an educational experience that I left feeling great.
and it was gorgeous. They took us out to a fantastic spot. It was hard to focus on the fish when you had front row seats to a perfect summer sunset.
Honestly, whether you have kids, want to go on a unique date, or just take some personal time, I can not recommend these guys enough. They have a great personal touch and are easy to work with. The prices are solid too.

These guys were incredibly great. Speaking as someone who likes the ‘idea’ of fishing but who doesn’t do it too much, I really wanted to get on the water and give it a shot with someone who actually knew what they were doing. Took a ride with these guys and I have to say that every part of it was spectacular.
The boat was great, and it really took me back to when I had gone fishing on similar boats with friends and family when I was younger. The staff did a great job of bringing us to some good spots and they made sure that we had everything that we needed (rods, bait, etc) to get the job done. While I didn’t get a fish, for me the idea of fishing isn’t just about catching fish — it’s just as much about going out and experiencing the open water on a nice day with people who you enjoy spending time with.
That being said, a lot of the people on the boat (including a couple of friends) caught fish, and the team was really great about making sure that the fish were taken care of for us. Additionally, it seemed that everyone else was having a good time as well, and I think this group atmosphere really added to the entire day and made my trip even more special.
If I ever end up going out on the water again, I’ll be definitely calling the Island Current people first, because both me and my friends (who have significantly more charter experience than I do) agreed that this was one of the best experiences that we’ve ever had!

I fished with Island Current in late April this year on a flounder trip out of City Island in the Bronx. From start to finish I had a great time, captains and crew are friendly, helpful and professional and worked hard to give everyone a fun day. They’re a quality outfit I’d be happy to recommend to anyone and will be fishing with again.

I’ve been out a handful of times with the Island Current Fleet. Each and every time I end up with the same excellent service. The last time out, I organized a family night on the water. There was about 15 of us that went, and for many of them it was the first time on a boat/​fishing. My first time fishing with Island Current was in the summer of 2014. I’m not much of a fisherman so thank you to the crew of Island Current for baiting my hook throughout the charter. Needless to say, I caught a blue fish and was extremely excited about that. All in all, the boat was well stocked with bait, the crew were helpful and friendly and I had a great time. Highly recommend the Island Current for some good fishing!

Went on the Island Current out in Snug Harbor Rhode Island for some Cod fishing. We had a blast! Caught my first cod fish. The mates made the trip great. They were very hands on and helped me and my friends with baiting our hooks and untangling. I even had the pleasure of meeting the captain/​owner when I got off the boat. He’s a really nice guy! I never pictured him to be so young. Would highly recommend this boat to everyone!!!

It is Codfish time in Rhode Island. I have been fishing the Island Current Fleet for many years now and would definitely recommend them for Cod fishing out of Snug Harbor Rhode Island. Capt. Chris has a crew that is both friendly and have a lot of knowledge and ready to pass it on to other fishing people. I live in Florida and will still go up in the winter to fish on this fleet. I went on the sunset fishing charter (5pm-​9pm), which was fishing for flounder and fluke. A lot of fish were caught. Many were keepers. The boat was washed down well before we got on. We were well stocked with minnows to bait our hooks. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We fished under Throggs Neck Bridge and had a decent view of Manhattan and the sunset. The bathroom was a little bit in disarray, but whatever, it’s a fishing boat, not a yacht. Walk down to their dock about 15 minutes early, bring your beer and soda. $ 40 for all the fish you can catch, bait, poles & rods and someone to filet your fish. A lot of fun. Definitely recommend it.

Terrible! I usually use my Unilocal account to review other reviews, but I had to write this review.
I bought my groupon and attempted to use it today, arrived at 7am — with a departure at 8am, and what a terrible terrible terrible mistake.
After sitting on the boat for nearly an hour, we were told that we didn’t «e-​reserve», so we didn’t have fishing rods… as the boat became more congested, they kept on taking on more and more guests without doing basic math of counting the number of people vs rods on board. It’s not rocket science, but these guys definitely seem to be in need for a basic math class.
I can’t even believe they allowed that many people on board… if i didn’t know any better, it seemed like a new years booz cruise.
So, after being told that we waited one hour and had no fishing rods, we debarked and requested a refund at 8:30 (and mind you the boat was supposed to leave at 8).
I think if someone wants to learn how to get 1 star, they should operate like the Island Current. Bravo!
What a horrible experience and we’ll definitely NEVER come back.

I went on the Island Current 4 for Porgi Fishing (Groupon). Oh boy. It was a tough one. Not because we didn’t catch fish, because everyone did catch some fish, and some keepers. That wasn’t the problem. The problems were:
1) We left 20 minutes late.
2) They only have clams on board for bait and the Mates kept telling everyone to buy Sand Worms
3) The boat is gross. Nobody cleans it and most of it is falling apart. They don’t care about the looks
4) 2 ½ hours it took us to get to our first stop (We finally dropped out lines around 10:45am.
5) After no bites for 5 minutes– 30 minutes to drive to another spot. We did catch some fish there for a little
6) Drove all the way back to the first spot wasting 30 more minutes. We did catch a few fish. Nothing any different from the other spot. Just wasted 30 minutes.
7) On the drive back, the boat slowed to a snails pace as the Engine Broke!!! Tooks almost 3 hours to get back to port!!!
8) No drinks are sold on board– why? Just have a cooler! Easy money, we were thirsty with the long ride home.
9) Mates were FISHING the entire time and not helping. Only one mate was trying to help people while the others smoked and fished. Way to do your job guys!
10) Bathrooms– Really? Clean them and make sure they work. Ours has Poop on the seat from the time we boarded… clearly they don’t clean them. No toilet paper
Take some pride in your boat! People want to go fish and have a good time! They don’t want the place to stink, be dirty and have the boat break on them. It was an awful experience. Yes we caught fish. But we only had 3 hours to fish on an 8 hour fishing trip. Something isn’t right if that’s the case.
Unfortunately I will try another company in the future as this one left a really poor taste in my mouth. This review is from MY experience and yours might be different. This review just goes to give you some idea of the trip.
***Note: People were keeping small porgi!!! That’s illegal and my complaints went on deaf ears from the mates. If the coast guard stopped the boat, 100% they would have been shut down. The guy next to me kept every fish he caught. Some 6 – 7 Inches. That’s messed up guys!!!*****
