We stopped in here to try something different and WOW. This place has amazing food. I had the jerk chicken and rice and beans. I had plantains and cabbage on the side. They asked me if I wanted«gravy» on my rice, not knowing better I said sure. She suggested I get the oxtail gravy. OHMYGOD!!! That stuff is amazing. the chicken and plantains were very good too, but that oxtail gravy was off the charts. I ended up going back 3 more times and got the oxtail stew which the gravy was from… HEAVEN! My only complaint would be, there isn’t one of these by my house. If you get the chance please give them a try.

Its about to be on! We stopped here for a patty and coco bread before we hit I-95 South to DC. Needless to say it hit the spot. The patty was crispy on the outside, filled with tender spicy beef on the inside. How could you not stuff all that goodness inside a coco bread and nom your way to carboliciousness? Ya crazy mon if ya dawn do dis. Get to Golden Krust ina hurry!

Every time I went to this Resturant the ladies behind the counter were so rude and argumentative. The first time, I thought it was because they were about to close when I got there, but that’s no excuse. The second time, there was an error on their part(I ordered Roti and was told I can add whatever and was yelled at). The third and last time, I was given something I just asked a question about, than double charged, like it was a consultation fee. These women need sometime out of the workforce so they can understand the meaning of ungrateful employee!

This restaurant has good food, but I I am saddened to say that I am considering not spending my money here any longer. They do a very good job with their oxtail, curry goat and rice and peas. They have a $ 6.49 lunch special that I think is overpriced by at least $ 1.50. The container is a bit small for that price. The beef patties and coco bread are also very good. Their baked goods are very nice especially the multicolored cakes. Although, a slice is expensive at $ 1.75. I did stop purchasing the cake the second time I received a stale piece. I would not recommend the stewed chicken unless you like barbecue chicken because that is what it tastes like. I was expecting something less sweet. It was fine at the moment because I was hungry, but I would not eat it again. The service is usually very nice Now, the reason why I may not return is because I went for oxtail, rice and peas and paid $ 11.42. When I got home, I almost passed out. There were only 4SMALL pieces of oxtail with rice and beans, a serving of cabbage and 2TINY pieces of fried plantain. I could have gone to the Chinese restaurant and gotten two lunch orders with generous portions for less than $ 11.42. Ripoff! I would have returned it if I were close by. I know Chinese food and Caribbean food are two separate beasts, especially in regards to ingredients, but I still feel cheated. I have to stretched those dollars and eating here will not help.

I was originally looking for another restaurant in the area, but made a turn too quickly, and missed it. I decided to just fill myself at a nearby Chinese buffet. Next door was Golden Krust. I enjoy a good Caribbean meal, so I thought I’d check it out. The small dining area was quite clean, and one of the workers was stocking the freezer with all types of Jamaican ice cream. I didn’t succumb to that temptation… more on that later. One thing that struck me right away was the menu’s lack of pork items. It’s the second Caribbean place I’ve tried that doesn’t do pork. Maybe it’s a Bronx thing. No matter, I ordered a small chicken soup, and curried goat with rice & peas. When I got to the hotel, I spread everything out and started in. The chicken soup was wonderfully flavorful, with huge chunks of potatoes, chicken-with-bone, and various root vegetables. Delicious and so charming! It was almost enough for dinner, but I had to get into that curried goat. I felt I chose well, because the next two customers ordered it too. I was not disappointed in the least. Tender chunks of meat, with just enough bite so as not to fall off the fork. The sauce was sumptuous and the fragrance of its whole spices filled the room. Even the rice was different, non-sticky with a touch of aromatic sweetness. All in all completely satisfying. Back to dessert. How could I settle for ice cream when a locally made Red Velvet cake was staring me in the face? Perfect ending to a great meal. I’ve been working here in the Bronx for over a week now, and I’ve tried different food places each evening. Golden Krust is the first place where I am happy to say I will be back!

Real quick. Let me say that when this establishment first opened up the food was much better. I had ox tails that were rock hard yesterday and had more fat on it than meat! The rice was clumpy and dry(I had asked the server for extra gravy expecting this) were was the«salad»? A few patchs of lettuce? My lady said the chicken was disgusting awhile ago and vowed never to eat in there again. I have joined her. The best part of the meal was the red velvet cake and at $ 3 a pop is no bargain. The patties are just ok… I have had better and packed with more food. Seasoned patty eaters no what I’m talking about. Stay away!

The Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery, located in the Pear tree Shopping Mall in Co-Op City, is a great place to get some good tasting Caribbean cuisine. I am a BIG fan of their Jamaican Patties. And they make about 7 different variates. My two biggest favorites are Beef and Chicken but all their patties are really great. Better than those you buy at your local pizzeria’s these days. But their menu also includes Jerk, Stew & Curry Chicken, Goat, Fish or Beef as well as Ox Tails! Golden Krust is a good place to satisfy your Caribbean food urge when it hits!
